How did Apple get to the point where it removed itself from the 'personal computer' category?

What? You mean like not laptop computers? Thats dumb, I thought they were. I don't know how you came about this discovery, but now how do you explain all the personal laptops and Ibooks and whatever else there are?

No i mean how in the commercials, it makes it look like the battle is Mac vs. PC.

Mac is a brand.

PC is not (Even though Apple wants you to think its M$). PC is a label for a type of digital device (a personal computer) which a Mac is.

How did they manage to get to this point?

Seems kinda fucked up no?

technically you are right... BUT with those mac vs. pc commercials everyone knows they are referring to windows, and they probably would say windows but they would get hit with a bunch of lawsuits and shit so...

its marketing. they wanted to stand out from the crowd. you either have a mac, and your hip and shit, or you have a pc and your just like everyone else.

idk though cause mcdonald's and burger king do that as well as pepsi and coke and other companies directly go for each other...

Technically, you're right. Macs are "personal computers." However, PC has become the generally accepted term for any kind of computer (laptop or desktop) that runs windows for an operating system. I don't know how this came to be, but you're right--when you think about it, the term doesn't really make sense.

PC is a term that has been given to generic personal computers. companies like Dell, Gateway, HP etc. . . have embraced the PC term and you will see it in their commercials and advertisements.

It is a marketing ploy, to differentiate themselves. it is working isnt it? They have created an image different from the norm, which, if you have seen their stock prices and profits, you will see that it is working.

Just don't think about it, its stupid to contemplate.

dude, Wendy's is way better than about 96% of fastfood out there, so you bite your tongue. where the fuck else can you get a jr. bacon chee AND a baked potato AND a small pepsi? fucking nowhere, that's what i thought. that and Dave is the shit.

I don't like those Mac comercials. They're like all the pepsi commercials where it is just dirrectly saying "Pepsi is better than Coke". I agree pepsi is better than coke, and I would also probably prefer to have a "mac" than a "PC" but the commercials really annoy me

actually they are reforing to aple vs DOS operatring systems. widows (no matter what mcrosoft trys to tell you operates over DOS. apple on the other hand has its own proprietary operating system that operates independently. but yes they or pc as in personal computers

ya i noticed that but i just assumed the two companies in each of those ad wars just struck a deal with each other. that way they both get more publicity and overshadow any other similar companies.

its self proclaimed obviously, PC = bad, Macs = good. but yea i guess they didn't figure that many people would realize that, i mean i didn't even think of it until now. But personally i really do find that macs are pretty sweet. i used to be completely microsoft, but i started using a mac, and they have so many little things that make it so much easier. like take the f9 button, i use that all the time, its really helpful. i know this is not really want the thread is about or what your asking, but it has to just be a marketing ploy.

eh its just there marketing sales pitch. and obv its working everyone and their grandmothers is vigorously riding apples thrusting dick

while others continue to take it in the ass from windows/pcs...

face it some people like windows some ppl like macs

ow, my head hurts. whats my dell qualified as?
