How can we prevent China from infiltrating the sport?

in preparation for the upcoming Olympia, this seems like an apt subject to discuss.

The Chinese have no concept of the roots of the sport. They dont know about Poor Boyz Productions, C Crew, WSKI 106, Old Newschoolers, Teddy Bear Crisis, Freeze Magazine or the orher myriad of influences thet helped draf freeskiing into the (unfortunate ?/ mainstream) position its currently in

Chinese Skiers (on the national team) arent “skiers”. They are gymnasts who were taught how to ski greens and land aerial tricks

The Chinese are very cunning - By leveraging their gymnastics prowess they will begin to demand more influence within FREESKIING especially within the FIS judging ranks- this is a serious problem.

The traditional skiing nations : US, Canada, our European Friends , Japan, ANZACs need to band together and shut them out of the sport

The only thing this will effect is comp skiing so it's not an issue to 98% of skiers.

Those numbers are crazy. Almost hard to believe considering China has plenty of economic problems and that's an insane amount of capital to make it happen.

Thought this would be about doung business with China and their powers that be exploiting the sport for money through production and comps. All of which I'm down to avoid. But nope, you seem to just bash having any presence there cause 'core' or some shit. Its not the fault of the Chinese people that outside media is extremely restricted and they can't see ski movies and shoot the bull on NS. I'm just glad to hear there's a scene at all over there and hopefully someday it will be easiler to incorporate the skiers and culture into the rest of the ski world.

If we're bringing up freeskiing history then why even give a fuck about FIS judges and how there will be more comp robots. We're already there with kids in ski academies and that's always been a complaint about comps. I'd rather be stoked that the sport is growing a bunch and look forward to the ski counterculture that will develop in china after some kids get their hands on pbp or zootspace or whatever

new foreign teams will hire former pros/pro ams/etc whatever from countries with more established ski scenes. i have three american friends who either were or are coaches for the chinese national ski team. so smuff aint cappin

China has more money to throw at this than any core lot of skiers would ever dream of they will be opened into taking over the “freeskiing” brand with open arms

when I worked at a certain resort on Mt Hood they hosted a team of Chinese kids who were training to be future olympians their coach was of course from here in the US… probably a rider we would consider to be “core”

lets be real my guy absolutely noone in an industry like Skiing (and even Snowboarding) will turn down profits, that is the way the sport has been in recent decades.. if anything Vail has become more of a plague on the “core” way of life than the Chinese.

Simply put the chinese are not “infiltrating” the sport, corporate greed is the real plague that is ruining (or has already ruined depending on who you ask) the sport; and to the guys sitting at the top, more skiers (China will be a shit ton more) means more money.
