what i did is i went and got an rca to phono jack wire at radio shack (like 6 bucks) then got a head unit that had an "aux input" then cut a little hole in the coin dish of my center console and stuck and ipod dock under it then used silicon caulk and shaped it so it looked smooth and stock then sanded and painted it black so you cant tell its even there and all i have to do is stick my ipod on the dock and it plays automaticly through the car raido as long as it is on the aux setting most peopl that get in my car dont even relize it till i tell them then they freak and say its the coolest thing ever and yes it is pretty damn coool and im damn proud of it and yess im drunk and i dont know if any one cares about my ipod install but heres a picture ill get more if any one else cares to see how i did it.

Yeah, the tape player that hooks up to your ipod/mp3 where the head phones go, I use that for everything.

radio transmitter or tape deck adaptor. i use the tape deck adaptor because its much more reliable and doesn't ever crap out like tranmitters.

i dont have a tape player in my car and ive tried using radio transmitters and they suck. im looking for a way to get my ipod connected directly to my cars headunit.

everybody is suggesting ghetto fixes. if you want a real solution, go to your head unit manufactures web site. most big companys offer a comversion kit, with a lead out to your headunit, and a lead in from the ipod. alot of them (depending on how old your stereo is) will not only let you veiw the song info, but also control your ipod as well. the box is usually around 100 dollars.

yah you need a cd deck with an auxillary input thing, and a cord to connect the two... I figured it out like a year ago but don;t really know the specifics now.. sorry.

that's def the best way, you just have to see if your head unit has aux- in. i've gotten it to work with cd-in as well. just need one of those dinky cables that go from earphone jack-rca ($5).. and you have to find a clever way to wire it. i had mine going through a blank spot in my dash.. drilled a hole in it and fed the cable through, a rubber gromit made it look clean.

then i was able to use ipod, minidisc player.. anything that had an earphone jack.

just get a good transmitter...hell, mine doesnt just override the shitty 88.1-88.7 stations, it overrides EVERY station...and was only 40 bucks.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

I had my itrip for less than 2 months and it just stopped working on me. Now I'm stuck listening to the fucking radio in my car.

Nice job. That is a sick idea, if only i had the talent.

Please don't give these people a reason to assemble unless you plan to carpet bomb the place... they'd probably combine to form some sort of evil pro-skier-kidnapping/raping crime syndicate. Granted, the sex tapes that would result would not disappoint, yet it seems so unfair to the poor unsuspecting riders who never asked for any of this.-AR_Six

It will depend on what kind of car/head unit you have. Go to enfig.com. They have iPod interfaces for a whole bunch of radios. I have one in my Passat factory deck. It works great and charges the iPod too. Generally they will take the place on a CD changer though.

Check the ilounge.com forums too for more info.
