let me start off by making a general guess about who you are...your probly 12 years old living off your parents cash.they probly have a crazy amount of it.and you live in a little rich town on the east coast?

I totally agree with all the long t style folks on this thread!

The thing is, when I dressed like an old person before, I could hardly hit rails and a 3 was the best I could do in the air. But then everything changed for me. I tried on a 6xl Tall Tee for Halloween to dress up hood style. But when I put it on as a joke, I could feel the power of skiing ability AND coolness saturating me. I played ball in it the next day. Though I could hardly dribble with it, I was just sick. Unstoppable. Unfortunately I had to wait two months to go skiing, but it was worth it. The first rail I slide I accidentally did a 270 out for the first time, with no flailing of any kind. I couldn't believe it. I was so stoked I figured I had to hit some jumps. Normally I would start off with a little 180 etc. My first hit felt really good doing a 360, and by the end of the day I was doing cork 7s. When I wore my regular large jacket and pants I couldn't do any of that stuff! The tall T totally revolutionized my skiing. I'll never go back.

 
To nomensteven, I agree with you for the most part. I completely agree that skiing should not be a fashion show and we should wear what we like, the part I don't agree with is your hate of people asking how things fit. I for one, asked how Saga would fit me for my size and weight because I want to know what size I should get so that I will like the way it fits me, this generally results in me asking how baggy it is on other people around my size. The answers I got were so mixed, people were saying large would be the best, some said medium would be fine. I went with medium because I do not like my outerwear super baggy. I aksed how it fit so I could know which one I would like best. The whole reason I bought Saga was because I saw pros wearing it in movies, liked the way it looked and the way the colors went with eachother, found out that it was good quality and was not that expensive.

So sure, I look like every other kid with the Scuba Too jacket and Shitake pants, but I don't care, I think it looks sick and like the way it fits. I know that I have a different way of skiing, a different personality and a different way of looking at things that everyone else and that's what matters to me. The way I look at it is if you like it then wear it. Also, if people ask how things fit it might be because they want to know how it fits for them, not so they can please everyone else. Sure there are many people who ask, how does my outerwear look, or is this baggy enough? And I hate that, the only persoon they should be asking how their outerwear looks or if it's baggy enough is themselves. If they like it then it's good. But they shouldn't only like it because other people like it.

whats with all this obsession ocver tall tees, like there cool and all, but people on NS act like its wat their wearing to their prom or wedding. seriously skiing isn't about that

this is sounding almost like a crip vs. blood type rivalry. tone it down a bit son. i totally agree with you but everyone has their own choice of style and everybody is going judge eachother on what they wear. the problem with freestyle skiing, especially park skiing, is that were all extremly judgemental on how people look, and we'll decide if we like this person or not as soon as he comes in the park or lift line. it seems we no longer judge someone by how they ski.
 
I find it interesting that one of the most expensive and somewhat exclusive action sports has developed a thug culture....... of mostly suburban white males. I never have, and probably never will understand how ski resorts or the backcountry are the "hood" by any means...... the only 9's I've seen on the hill have been rotations.... not weapons.

But to each their own. I just hope that style turns back into a individual decision soon, and not a follow the trend one.
 
what has skiing come to? kids getting on NS to ask if their 6xl tall tee will look good under their 3xl hoodie under their medium jacket. is this skiing, halloween, or a gay fashion show?
 
thats just what people see, kids dont think that way trust me. they dont think their hill is the "hood" they just wear big clothes.

I still dont understand why people think big clothes relates to black people and hood. My town is the opposite, black and hood people wear tight shirts big pants.
 
I co-sign this. So many people take that "Let them do what they want" stance when those levying the criticism are essentially saying, "Be yourself!" rather than break your back to "wear the uniform". The truth is that these people who put all this effort into emulating others, not to mention constantly discussing it, are out and out lame and utterly without a sense of self. It's one thing to be influenced by someone, it's something all together different to imitate.
The whole fixation and obsession with appearance is bizarre. I SWEAR there are 2 outerwear/accessories threads/posts for every 1 devoted to ACTUAL skiing. Look at comments on videos...every other comment is "What's the jacket at 44 seconds?!?!"....gross.
Further, if you aren't capable of aping someone's style without asking obnoxious questions, you're a moron. It's "monkey see, monkey do", not "monkey see and monkey ask stupid fucking questions because monkey too oblivious to connect the dots, monkey do."
All you little tools obsessing about tall tee length should come all the way out of the closet and consider fashion school or a career in the cosmetic arts. Feel free to "-k" because you little flamers who live for fashion are the same ones that think karma actually means something.
 
I can't think of how to describe it, but it's the mindset of being overly tough and gangster-macho which is what I mean, and many kids really do think that way, which is what scares me.......

And by no means do I apply this to every single person that wears baggy shit, but generally speaking it's quite a prevalent attitude.

Particularly for adolescents, or 75% of this site's members, a sense of belonging and acceptance of peers is crucial. Insecurity, and a fear of being "different" are both classic teenage traits. Sure, you have those that go the complete opposite direction and dress/behave way outside the norm...I think that speaks to a pre-emptive rejection of others out of an innate/subconscious fear of being rejected.
I guess it's somewhat hypocritical of me to be so critical....after all, I did start wearing sweatbands and following through with my swing one handed because of Ken Griffey Jr.
I don't know.....I'm just fucking sick of the bullshit. If I was smart, or more accurately had cool stuff going on, I'd avoid this site like the plague until actual skiing content is again being posted come Fall.

One other thing....
I think the typical teenaged/young adult tendency to mimic their peers (namely those that are put on some pedestal or are universally respected) is magnified given freeskiing's relative obscurity/uncoolness.
Basically, because newschool skiing has yet to garner a level of "coolness" ala snowboarding, the need to feel that sense of belonging and connectedness to ski culture is that much stronger. Whereas snowboarding is inherently cool, thus "allowing" the emergence of "individuality", skiing isn't and promotes a culture of sameness based on some bizarre show of solidarity.
In other words, in order to compensate for the general perception that skiing is snowboarding's nerdy older brother, those predisposed to give a fuck about what people think, bend over backwards to be as cool as possible and mimic the "cool kids". Thus, we share lifts with Wallischian clones that have yet learned how to ski switch without snowplowing, but are experts at doing the bird and stretching tees.

the whole tall tee thing is definetely a trend, one that i partake in. I think one of the main reasons why everyone if following the pros is because pros have some of the best style so when tom wallisch does a flawless 9 and we think ooh that was so sick, we associate the tall tee with good style while you never see anyone throwing down in normal ski clothes. We say the tall tee makes your style look better when in fact it may just be that for the most part people that started and continue to wear tall tees are better and have better style so that is what we think of when you see a tall tee and that makes kids want to wear them. Just my two cents sorry if it doesn't make sense

this thread is dumb why do you need the approval of everyone else? dress how you want, ultimately it's up to you to decide if it looks good or not after you buy everything

it's one thing dressing like a pro, and wanting to look like them (im guilty of that) but doing a hand motion that they do because they're pro is ridiculous
 
I think we can wear what we want. For my part, I sewed 2 tall tees to have the length which I wanted.Stretched 4xl were not rather long...
 
im the exact same size as you and i wear 4xl tall tees which work great for me. but just get a bigger jacket or the tee will look weird.
 
I remember when I was younger and was obsessed with Tanner and Simon. I also remember seeing what they wore and wanted to have the same, not because I wanted to look like them, but because i wanted to look better. When I say look better I don't mean fashion. I wanted to look like I was a better skier and fit in, and not look like a fucking gaper. I think this is the same thing that goes through kids heads that see pros today, but it has gotten rediculous. 6xl? Seriously? If you want to ski in a dress fine have fun but you look retarded I don't care what anyone says. Now obviously I think baggy ski clothes is okay, but not taken to extremes. I don't wear tall tees or have giant clothes but yeah mine are baggy, I don't like tight clothes. Honsetly guys we aren't black. I would love to see one of you walk into a ghetto doing the bird and wearing a tall tee. Obviously skiing is about fun and expressing yourself that is why I love it, but I just don't understand why kids dress like this.
