How Bad is Mud for Ski Bases?

It's been great here in the east, just a shit ton of rain.

I've been using my backyard setup a lot, and there's so much mud.

I get mud on my skis a lot. I usually clean it off immediately, but is it bad for bases?
 
As long as you are a decent waxer or get your skis waxed somewhat often then they are fine. The only problem you might have is that the micro pieces of dirt get into the pores of the base and wax having a problem being absorbed which could slow you down on snow but a good waxing would solve that.
 
Well I went to a rail jam 2 weeks ago, and my skis got caked in mud. Left them in my shed and forgot about them until yesterday when I noticed that the porous base had absorbed the mud. And my edges are extremely rusted. Wash your skis.
 
I don't think it's that bad. The mud could go into your binding and mess up the lube. So if you have marker bindings the AFD might not work as well.
 
as a precautionary measure to ensure the best from your bases when you get back on snow i would do a wax with some cheap universal ski wax and scrape the bases while the wax is still warm, this helps drag out and dirt in/on your bases. then do a wax for the snow temp you're going to be skiing on and do a cold scrape as normal. this way you should be carrying very little dirt in your bases which will slow you down.

A more extreme measure would be to use base cleaner but this will strip out all the wax and any little dirt there is and you will have to do multiple waxes to get it back to a working order as cleaners takes it to a raw, stripped out state. as such i would say dont bother with 'base cleaner' (should be called wax-stripper).
