House party busted, get MIP, get Famous,????, PROFIT

American cops sound like dicks. In Canada the cops just say to you to go home unless your passed out, then they take you to the drunk tank and let you go in the morning. any one with keys gets breathalyzed though (common sense)

Wow, those cops sound so harsh.

I love it when I go back home. The police officers are so rad. Generally they'll say "Chug it, or else I'll have to come out and dump it" so you chug it, drop it and walk away.

That's a legit quote from one of my local cops.

I am of age, but it's still illegal to be drunk in public or drinking in public.

Ya these guys really went overboard...they surrounding the house with flashlights on all the windows and lined every person up...

That's crazy. That's a school that takes cracking down to a whole new level.. It's nuts that they actually get search warrants too. I don't know how many parties I've been to where everyone underage just hides inside and the cops wander around outside but can't do anything.
But then again, I'm from Wisconsin, and our drinking laws are more relaxed.

I think it's so stupid that the drinking age is 21 in the states.

I'm glad I'm from BC where it's 19, but even then I think it's dumb because a person can enlist at age 18 and die for his or her country but isn't legally allowed to have a beer.

“It’s a great use of resources, what can I say?” Lahusen said. “Sure, they haven’t caught the armed robbers that are almost murdering people and taking their money and iPods, but kids are drinking alcohol. That is way more important than armed robbery. Or fucking anything else that’s going on.”

Three officers stood sentry in the shadow of the house, watching the back door and side windows.

“No one in the house is 21, so we’re all fucked,” Lahusen said. “We’ll probably go to court, have a good time. Hey, it was going to happen one of these days.”

hahahaha way to go. would have said the same thing

only time iv run into problems with cops and drinking is at the lake on long weekends. any regular weekend you are fine. long weekends its a $360 for drinking in public and another $360 on top of that if you are underaged. $150 for tresspassig if you set up a tent randomly. i had a buddy get all those in one night and another $360 the next night. im glad cops are chill around here

I think its rediculious how much their trying to catch kids these days. Bellinghams cracking down super hard. Last week there was like 4 kids in my math class that got MIPs for the party they busted over on james street. I think as long as were partying somewhere safe, it shouldnt be a deal. I've deff had my fair share of deals with the cops around here, and their faw sho some d-bags.

Holy shit, that was one of the worst written articles i've read in a while. I bet the "author" is super fun to be around.

Next time this happens you should just shut up. You have no obligation to take a sobriety test (i don't think, and if you are you can most certainly demand consul be present), nor to give them your age or tell them anything other than your name. If you're not with a drink in hand or driving or doing something else that requires it, there is no law that says you have to carry id. Go to jail, call your parents, have them call a lawyer or ask for a public defender. By the time this all happens you'll probably be sober. And if not your lawyer will have a much easier time getting you off. Its a bit of a pain in the ass but its better than the insurance spike from an MIP/MIC

wow, way to go WWU. i'm amazing central hasnt thought of this yet. i'll bet by the end of the year central has 2 party buses. B-ham was so much better than central cop-wise when i have been up there, but not now!

My friend was there! And in the photos. They took her away in that fucking "party bus" too, when she had a ride coming in 10 mins. The Bham police have their priorities fucked.

1st rule of underage drinking: Dont open the door

2nd rule of underage drinking: Dont invite stupid chicks that will open the fucking door!

without a warrant they arent breaking em down. curtains closed music at a semi loud decible... party on wayne.

the childish level of descriptive writing in that article pissed me off so i had to stop reading it /:

oh really!! and how the fuck would you know? Im not in HS and I have a college diploma. I have paid an attorney for this exact advice. He has saved more than one of my friends asses in hs and college for mips, dui's, and small possession charges. first rule is dont open the door. without a warrant they cant come in unless someone is in danger. if the curtains are drawn they cant see. if the music isnt that loud they wont get a noise complaint. if they dont have a reason to come to your house they wont see all the underage kids drinking. Im not saying just pretend they arent there and keep being drunk jackasses im saying dont open the door stop drinking for a lil turn the music off and wait it out. at least all the kids who arent that drunk will have time to drink a bunch of water and blow zeros when they bring reinforcements. everyone else lawyer up and fuck the cops in court when you get off with an a month at aa or a mothers against drunk driving speach. but im a moron.

cops show up because of noise complaints or anything relating to disturbing the peace, am i right? in that case, they have EVERY right to talk to the owner of the house which leads to the party ending and whoever being underage and whoever hosting the party- no matter their age, at risk of prosecution. so yes you're right in that if you're hosting a house party but are making no noise, nothing is visible, no one is loud, no one is underage or drunk assholes then you don't have to open the door, but you're splitting hairs here because situations like that never happen especially in HS or early college. and drinking water doesn't lower your BAC. come on dude, you were doing alright there for a minute.

Exactly. You're doing a cop a favor my giving him probable cause. If he has 51% belief that a crime has been commited he is allowed to search and seize(arrest).

whoever wrote that article needs to realize he/she is douche and not writing a novel. that was the most serious shit

meh not true in vancouver. i've gotten 2 minor in possession tickets in the last couple of years, both pretty bullshit in my opinion and involved me not consenting to search and having my head slammed into the side of a cruiser and being searched anyways. vancity cops are not chill.

btw, quality quotes OP, that was actually some pretty funny stuff.

They don't just sound like dicks, a lot of them are dicks. They could easily break up a party by telling everyone to leave and just threaten to ticket people that don't. Instead, they believe it instills fear in students that they will get caught drinking and get a ticket. Whats worse is trying to apply for jobs in corporations in college. Some of them will have no problem dismissing an application if the student has a drinking ticket/MIP. Pretty rediculous if you ask me.

talk about splitting hairs... the point isnt water its if you dont open the door and wait a while it buys you some time so that some of your guests can avoid the mip. If you are half way responsible before the party starts and simply close the blinds they actually dont have any right without a warrant to talk to the owner. I have been in more than one house where you simply close it up like fort knox and they leave after an hour and a half. They come back later and give the owner a ticket for the noise complaint but like i said even if you end up opening the door because after an hour and a half they dont leave....there will be people who now can pass a breath test that otherwise wouldnt have been able to. im not asking you to personally do it nor do i care if you believe what ive said. just dont be a dick and call someone a moron i know this works because ive done it and watched it work.

see even in your experience, the owner still got ticketed. its a little misleading when you first say, "don't open the door! cops have no right without a warrant!" and that's all. i've heard that a hundred times from kids who were absolutely wrong about it. and again, an hour and a half is very little time for your BAC to go down. the rule of thumb is that your body goes through processing one beer every hour give or take, so unless the MIPS only had two beers, they MAY blow 0.0 and that's if the cops even bother with that waste of time... which they most likely won't and they'll just send you on your way.

around here, the cops dont even give out tickets anymore (maybe unless its your house and all that). they just tell you to leave.

holy shit those cops take that way to seriously, i thought itd be some story about a party getting broken up and you getting interviewed or something, but that sucks.

a ticket for a noise complaint is a hell of a lot better than 20 people getting cited for underage drinking don't you think? The cops can't enter a house unless A: the door is open B: someone lets them in C: they can see through the windows minors consuming alcohol, or D: they have a search warrant. as long as you don't do any of that stupid shit like leaving the door or the blinds open they can't come in. Its not like they're going to break down a door because the music is too loud.
why can't you accept that you're wrong?

god damn i'm glad i live at the greatest party school in the nation where as long as you aren't pissing on random people at McDonalds the officer will probably just tell you to go home.
