Horrible news...

i remember watching him in videos, the things he did, i couldn't believe. But he did it with a smile on his face. You could tell he truly loved skiing and life in general.

rip

from what i've heard about travis before this whole thing happened he seemed like an amazing dude. i've been roomates with one of his best friends for the past few months and just from the stories that have been passed on to me about trav without me even knowing the kid makes me super upset over what happened.
++vibes to nelson kids

Very well put.

It's terrible that this kinda thing happens and especially to someone so dedicated and talented as him.

++++++ vibes to the family

I have only know Travis since the beginning of the season, starting out with a jib sesh, and him playing around and just getting super stoked for the season. Skied with him a few times, admired his ridiculous airs down the fall line of Summit chair. Up to about two weeks ago, I joined him in skiing, and he forgot his jacket, he actually didn't remember where he put it, then he thought Nike was a shit company for making cold hoodies (all he had on). It was too funny. Taking the lift up with him and coming up with so many random hilarious ideas and conversations.

It's an absolute shame and not fair that someone so stoked on life, and skiing is now gone and not able to share his joy with his fellow skiers.

He was an inspiration to many younger kids in Nelson, and will continue to be a role-model for them for years to come.

R.I.P. Travis Steeger.

Hope your skiing some sick pow up there.

Trav you gave nelson 19 years of greatness. You could walk into a room and everyone in it would absolutely love you in seconds. You made me and the kootneys laugh, you were our hero, the best skier to come out of nelson ever. We will miss you forever, your life has changed hundreds of people in the Kootneys and you will never be forgotten. Thanks for the 19 years, ill miss you trav. R.I.P
p.s Congratulations on the First place at Fernie, You deserved it.

Travis,

Whitewater will never be the same without you. No one will ever ski Blast like you did. Ill never forget skiing the mountain with you and especially Sprollers, Past Catch, Concentrator, Mucker, and Blast. I was and will always be amazed by your inhuman skiing ability. You were throwing backflips at the age of 6 im pretty sure. I still remember the day you taught me how to backflip. Skiing with you was an absolute pleasure, you either had me in a dumbfounded look of awe, or laughing my ass off at the stuff you did.

You were also an absolute genious. This kid got 99% in physics 12 and had a very unique way of solving problems. Travis had unbelieveable focus and determination, its why i think he was so smart and could do the absolutley insane skiing stunts that he did.

If any of you were lucky enough to see the footage from last year you could see that his backcountry was pretty much on par with tanner halls stuff. You were definetly going to make an emmense impact on the future of freeskiing. A lot of people are going miss you man, thanks for bringing smiles to a lot of peoples faces.

Im super bummed you had to go. I dont think ill ever ski with someone like you again. Thanks for everything.

Travis played a huge role in the community. He taught everyone including myself exactly what it means to live life to the fullest every single day. Friends with everyone and enemies with no one, he was the most accepting person I have ever come across in my life. He knew what life was about, I can't say that about many people but he was one individual that anyone could proudly say he knows how to live life.

He was going to be the next Seth Morrison as well there is no doubt about it, I have never seen anyone (including pro skiers) ski like Travis. It was almost like watching a huge burst of energy coming down the hill and no matter what day it was, it was always amazing! He skied for himself, I've seen so many kids today that are always skiing to impress people and for the camera etc. but not him.

I want to thank Travis for everything he has brought into this world and rest in peace buddy, I hope the powder up in heaven is as soft as it is at Whitewater.

man, i am pissed that he had to go in such a horrific way

RIP and +vibes to the friends and family

hope hes got enough powder and drops up there

on a side note, did anyone find out if they caught the fuck who ran after hitting him?
my friend had mentioned that she thought they caught the guy but im yet to hear anything official or definate
fucking canada and their lenient ass sentencing. its fucked up, you do a hit and run and you get what, a year of probation or something stupid like that? canada and bc need to get their shit together and put out mandatory sentencing for crimes and much stiffer penalties for shit like hit and runs
just a fucking shame this happened i cant even imagine what his family is going through

RIP man. + vibes to all his family and friends, i know what their going through. my moms fiance passed away saturday night too.

from 2005 season

and i cant find eny more recent stuff that i know how to post , but as you can see, 4 years ago he was a great rider. RIP

that totally sucks the way he had to go, knowing how crazy and in love with the snow that guy was he would of probably rather died hucking a huge cliff than that (actually im positive he would of) + vibes for his family, friends and the armada team for the loss of a great skier and what sounds like a good guy.
im sure he is rippin 4 feet of fresh in heavin right now with god himself

I was so shocked when I heard this. I heard about the hit and run this morning on the news and I had this sickening feeling that it was someone I knew.

I didn't know him like Graeme or any of the Nelson kids did. But I've seen him ski and was impressed unlike anything else.

I remember being in Rossland during a comp and just seeing him huck off this cliff to a sketchy landing.

Then just 2 weeks ago I competed against him again at my home hill Kicking Horse. Once again blown away by his talent.

He had so much potential at the age of 19, such a shame that it's gone.

It feels like an honour to have skied with someone like Travis.

R.I.P man, the ski world will miss you

oh my god.... that's just awful.

hit and run is terrible, and i hope that whoever is responsible for this is brought to justice.

RIP

That's terrible to hear. He sounds like an amazing person with limitless potential. +vibes to his family and friends

Such a tragedy. Such a waste. Rest in peace.

Hopefully the driver is caught an persecuted to the maximum extent of the law.

I love him and miss him, one of my oldest and closest friends, who did the gnarliest stuff and got away with it. I have been spending a lot of time with his family, and they are so great full to see how many people in his life he connected with. I will show them this today, here is the last shot i ever got of travis, rest in peace you crazy bastard, i know your shredding some neck deep pow with no pants on some where.
