Hey guys,

I've been a ski instructor in flat Manitoba for 7 years during the winters, and i'm finally in a situation where I have some cash and would like to move out to Whistler and work for the winter.

I've applied through the website with a resume and cover letter, i'm 22 and physically fit with all of the gear of course.. Level 1 CSIA Ski Instructor and Level 1 Race Coaching, coached slalom for Manitoba Games and have competed in big airs etc in the area, what little there is of them. I would be down for certifying for anything and would be glad to work 6 days a week. It's Sept 29. today and I applied a few days ago. I'm just curious if anyone knows what my chances of getting on are, and if staff housing will be an option. I have 3k in the bank, but I know that won't last long unless I can find a place to live. I'm really not picky, I don't need alot of space and I get along with virtually everyone I meet.

Just wondering if anyone can give me any insight on this or if there's something I should be rushing to do right now! I know this probably comes up -alot- here, but I'm hoping you guys can help a fellow skiier out who REALLY wants to get out of the land of ski hills with 300 ft. vertical if you want to travel a few hours...

Thanks!

Neil

Don't work for the mountain, they'll own you. Take your pass if you mess up etc. This is what I was told by somebody who skibummed whistler. Oh and get a graveyard shift sleep all day go skiing and party till your shift.

umm i hear staff housing sucks and if you don't get here right now you pretty much wont have a place to live.

i live in van tho so i dont have any detailed info really

i.m.o. it's too late to move to whis. chances of you finding a place to live are slim to none and working for the mountain is a bad idea as stated above.

you'd be better off going to revelstoke or golden and working/living there. it's cheaper there, they have better snow and there aren't as many std's.

Thanks for the insight guys..

I actually have scored a place to live in Whistler, but i've also gotten an offer from Big White..

I guess what i'm most concerned about is this talk of working for the mountain being a bad idea.. can anyone go into a little more detail regarding this or tell a story of this being terrible?

I'd really like to make a ton of friends wherever I go and not have to worry about a place to live so much, staff housing and working for the mountains seemed like a good idea, but i'm not to ignorant to listen to advice from people who have real experiences in doing so.

because you instruct for like 6 hours a day. Giving you no time to free ski and no money.

All my ski instructor friends were super broke because you simply dont get enough hours to live off of unless you have staff accom. And you may get like 200 days on the mountain, but very little of that time would be spent skiing.
