Hoover Dam

Just watched an hour show on the discovery channel and it kind of blew my mind at how much a single dam can change the way so many things are done. Also anyone living in Boulder, the reason for they built Boulder was to house the workers families.

Thoughts
 
twas busted, there wasn't enough depth of wet concrete any any given time for it to bury someone
 
That's got to be false, I am not saying there is anyone buried in there but a guy could have easily fallen down and gotten covered when one of the buckets was dumping.
 
dunno bout the hoover dam, but with the golden gate bridge construction, caisson workers died by the dozen ....
 
according to a tour I took there when I visited and a show (might have been the nat geo, history channel, or mythbusters, I'll try to find it) they built the damn horizontally rather than vertically, and they never poured cement in layers deep enough for a body to be lost in. I'm fairly certain that all the deaths were accounted for too.

They poured the cement into concrete blocks. However some of the blocks were up to 50 feet deep so I'm not sure where you're getting your information. You are correct that none of the bodies were put into the damn, they honor the men that lost their lives in sculptures and plaques above the Dam.
 
He is right in that they never poured the dam in such massive sections. If they would have poured the dam in one giant slab it would have taken over 100 years to cool and cure. They actually ran steel pipes through the dam and pumped coolant thought to speed the process, also they poured it in thin sections, only a few feet at a time, maybe less, that is what I am not sure about. No one probably got buried but I bet they could have if they wanted to.

Maybe not though, the way the rebar and cooling tubes were laid in there could have made each pour only inches thick.

That is the highlight of going to Vegas for me, (beside the booze, strippers, gambling, etc.) pretty much every time I go down there I try to make a trip to the dam. That damn dam blows me away every time I see it.
 
some worker threw his shoes into the concrete once and it looked like a body was buried in the concrete. good ass prank if you ask me...

Sick shit, don't watch that unless you are desensitized to violence. So pretty much all of you could watch that.
