Hood for dummies

So I'm thinking of heading to hood for a couple weeks this summer but I know nothing about it. Any knowledge y'all have is gonna be helpful. I'd just like the run down of what goes on. Tryna do this on a relatively small budget.
 
You can use freecampsites.net to find good spots to camp around in the forest. Camping is usually pretty good but spots fill up rather fast. Also sometimes there’s a fire ban if I’m remembering correctly
 
Timberline in the summer is not cheap. Spring pass (until memorial day) is when you want to go. It's also when most other homies are there. Just watch out for the cat people in the woods.
 
u can stop by the Sundance natural foods store in Eugene to stock up on healthy camping foods. i'm just starting to get my meal prep in order. trying to add more variety to my standard morning type meal. i've been doing banana, coconut, egg pancakes (no preservatives, all organic farms)
 
Don't start a fire or I will come get you and pack up your trash. North side near Hood River is expensive the farther you go west on 26 the cheaper things get. Camp at the landing strip, just beware of the trash monster.
 
Poach the lower public park and only pay for the lift ticket if u wanna hit the airbag. Wear sunscreen don’t forget to get a cobra dog in govy

Yeah this. Obviously some people make it work but sometimes better to either do the whole summer on a pass or come spring.
 
Respect the forests and the mountain and they'll respect you back. Clean up more trash than you bring in.

All the jokes about people in the woods are real, to an extent. Lots of thieves and tweakers in the woods, try and not leave stuff unattended for extended periods of time and you should be good.

- road 28.

- burry your shit.

- the best dispo nearby is Mount Hood cannabis company.

- if a ranger pulls up on y’all just say you’ve only been there a few days.

- don’t buy stuff from Govy general it’s expensive, go to the grocery store at the base of the mountain down by the dispensary.

- tarps, tarps, tarps.

- make sure your camp spot has sunlight so you can dry gear.

-buy firewood, start your fire, go find wood nearby, if it’s damp then put it next to your fire so it dries, then toss it on once it’s ready. This way you can make your good firewood last much longer.

- sleep in your car, it gets cold at night for a tent.

- baby wipes, this is how you will be clean, wash your hair in the river and then wipe yourself down with baby wipes.

Question about the summer pass: Is there no longer the FTC summer pass? I was looking on the website and it looked like it was saying it was an extra $120 to go in the rope tows. Seems very wack that is the same price to go in the FTC if you have a summer pass or not. I thought last year it was only like $20 to upgrade a summer pass to a FTC ticket for the day and $120 if you don't have a pass. I really want a summer pass but I'm not about to pay $120 everytime I wanna go in the FTC

There is a tiny motel in Rhododendron / Welches that I remember passing. Looks like it only has 6 - 8 rooms or so though

I split an air bnb with a few friends when I go out. It's the only real ski trip I take each year so I kinda splurge a bit haha
 
I was researching places a couple weeks ago, and theres this hostel called Mazama lodge that's pretty cheap. On the website it looks like you have to be or know a member of the outdoor hiking community its associated with? Not sure though.
