so i get home today and check the mail, find there's a letter from my school 'welcoming' me to the Principal's Honor Roll, which is 'uniquely designed to honor students with GPAs of 3.3 or above'.

great, how the fuck does this help me? so if i get a piece of paper from these guys giving me a pat on the back, does that help me with college apps? how about fees? books, tuition, food, clothing? i know i have above a 3.3, i don't need some dipshit telling me that i did. i just hate the redundancies of the educational system (and society in general, but i won't go into that).

seriously, if you want to 'honor' me for my grades, give me something i can use, like money. i could care less about a piece of paper telling me something i already know.

i'm having a bad week (and i know it's monday, but it can only go downhill from here...)

fuck, 3.3 is honor roll at ur school? at mine its 3.7. suck. and it does help with college entrance i thought.

 
they do give you money for good grades, its called 'scholarships'.

Yeah it helps with college apps a lot. Almost all apps ask about academic achievement and you can milk that shit.

i highly doubt that i can get any scholarships - the california educational system has stuff like that locked up tighter than the asshole of a straight man in a gay bar.

maybe i should preface it with this - schools in california are turning away kids with 4.0 GPAs and tons of community service, school activities, atc because of ''overcrowding'' or what the hell ever they're calling it now. i have something like a 3.6 GPA, and i'm more than likely going to junior college simply because kids with my grades just don't cut it anymore for these people.

Anyways, this reminds me of the thing I got in the mail earlier this year. It was for the 'Gold Key society for academic achievers', or something like that. They didn't give me any scholarships or renew my old ones... but apparently my marks were good enough to get me into some ego-booster society, and all they wanted me to do was pay 50$, attend some meetings, and do some volunteer work! OH BOY! How can I refuse?

my school is soo frickn retarded. i guess we have honor roll, but we dont rank. just to make it difficult for us to apply to colleges, b/c everywhere i go, they always ask for class ranking, and i dont have one cause my schools a piece of shit. ugghhh and its catholic.

^^ yeah my school stoped doing rank starting this year. the only way we can have it released to us is if you can show an app for college of a scholarship that you need it for. of course class rank doesnt really make you look good from my school cause with a 4.0 you end up being like 3759235th in your class

kids with 3.3 from my HS are in colleges like Columbia, GT. 3.6 is Brown, Duke, etc.

no, my school's really good, it's just that the california school system is super competitive. what pisses me off even more is that stanford and ucla have sent me a bunch of recruitment material, but it makes me think ''why the fuck are these guys sending me this stuff if i have to fight and claw to get into their school?''

Because that's how it works dumbass, you have to try to get into college, no one hands it to you. And by the way, I'm out of state, and I got into UC Santa Cruz with a 3.9 and good test scores, they're not going to exclude an in state resident with a 4.0 and decent extracurriculars. Don't pretend that the system is set up against you, either you're smart and a hard worker or you're not.
