think about how much of our lives are wasted with school, over half if you include colllege, and for the most part it consumes almost the whole day, or enough to wear you dont have time to do anything else so you come home and go on ns. but its such a waste, most of us are smart enough we could learn all of this stuff very quickely, in all of my classes when i think about it, half the period is spent talking or doing nothing, and only about 10 minute is spent actually learning, the rest of the time is usually work. what im saying is that we could learn most of this extremely fast if we tried, and school might not take up our whole "youth" life, the only time when your body is truly at prime,,, for stuff like skiing

Man, im so glad someone has the same thoughts as me. If you think about your life you have school, then more school, then more school, and then you go out and get a job to make money and live the rest of your life. The purpose of school is good but i think it ends up becoming not a learning experience anymore and just a way to waste time. I think the school system just has to undergo a complete "look over" by the government.

You do realize how many everyday things wouldn't be possible without the intense schooling that people around the world go through, right?

I mean, here you sit, on NS, typing on a keyboard, with probably an LCD monitor, connected either Wirelessly or via broadband to the internet. I honestly wish you could go pick up a book, and quickly figure out how all those things work, then replicate them, or invent them on your own. How about the meds you take when you're sick? Or the doctor performing surgery on you?

As much as school sucks, and how long it takes to get through it. It is by no means unnecessary. We would not have the standard of living we do without it. Everything that we take for granted on a day to day basis took intelligence and ingenuity to make, something that is taught as we go through school. Not only does school educate us in the ways of science, math so on and so forth, but it teaches us skills to live by. Communication, problem solving, tolerance, patience, and many more. Schools helps you grow up and mature into a sensible and intelligent human being. Moreover, it takes Time, as we all know cramming for a test, you cannot learn that fast and be educated on the subject, it is a long process. As much as I dislike spending all my life in school, it is necessary in many aspects of life.

i agree with that to a point, but taking up half of our entire lives for it is rediculus, and for those people who did all that and made all that, must have enjoyed school to continue on in such a way, it should be optional after 6th grade,,,,and i mean sure you can drop out, but in society today, youll go no where

i agree but i dont think the schools are amazing right now everything we have are benefits of people learning in school its just the schools right now are not completely effective.

"Honestly" ....I don't think school is a waste for you.

In what you wrote, there are numerous errors. They range from saying "wear" when you mean "where" to sentence fragments. Seriously, school is not a waste. I agree that a lot of what we supposedly "learn" is a waste of time, and that a lot of time spent at school is wasted, but overall, an education is very important.

No, they are not amazing, nor will they ever be in this form of government. But it is hardly a waste of time. Some classes are potentially a waste of time, especially in the present. I certainly thought so in high school. After a few years of college, I realize how much alot of those 'worthless' classes have prepared me for things later in life that I have needed, certain skills, whether its studying skills, writing skills or communication. I personally think the system is alright as it is, as frustrating as it can get at times.

Honestly, how can you say its a waste?

You would not have the drive to teach yourself complex subjects like macroeconomic theory or calc. Also, going to school opens doors to you. No matter how smart you are, if you don't have a degree theres no way of proving how much stuff you have actually learned. Also, school helps build your network and the grades you get help your first employer decide if you're right.

You don't go on newschoolers because you're exhausted, you go on newschoolers because you are lazy and procrastinating.

Without school, a lot of progress would not have been made, and i can't believe you think that people could teach themselves the same stuff.

C'mon, you aren't Will Hunting.

So what do you propose you would do with your time if you didn't have to be in school, seeing as how it is such a waste of time?

I don't think school is an entire waste of time...............I just think the whole system needs a major overhaul to make it more efficient and less time consuming.

Yeah...not smart.

If it's easy take harder classes.

Don't get a GED, no one respects that.

i agree school does take up a lot of time but i can honestly say i love school. ya the work and studying sucks but think about what youve done at school. i look at school like this. it is the place where you met all your friends, look at super hot girls, and fuck around. there are ups and downs to going to school but its necessary for you so why not make the most of it.

So you spend half your day "wasting" your life in school. You spend half of the year in school. You go to school for about 20 years (probably less) So that means you spend about 5 years in school. The average death age is what 70? So thats 1/7 of your life "wasted" on stuff thats only going to better your life.

how do we waste over half our lives in school if you include college? most people graduate college at age 22, and you dont start school until age 5, so that is only 17 years of school.

and i'm sick of these school sucks threads.

You dont have to go to school, if you think its that much of a waste don't go. I'm sure you have been told the importance/relevance of schooling, if you dont think its worth your time then maybe it's not. Remember, ultimately you're in control of your desicions. That said, i personally think you would be doing yourself a great disservice by dropping out of high school or college, whichever your at.

As much as I disagree with your point of view, I'm not going to preach to you about how wrong your perspective is. Those burgers aren't going to flip themselves.

i just thought about this now....

why do we go to school/work for the first like 60 or so years of our life so that we have free time when we are old and out of shape and getting lots of health problems? it would make more sense if we had our free years in like our 20's this way we have all the rights of an adult and we are usually in the best shape at this age. this is when we'd be able to do the most stuff like travel and shit
