i am getting an old crv. i am pretty sure it is an ex. i am not a car person and was wondering if it was awd drive all the time, or if it just kicks in when you need it. where ever i look it says (frnt. wheel drive-awd). the car is a 1997-2000. can anyone answer my question? thanks.

kicks in when the computer sense that the wheels are losing grip, otherwise its a front wheel drive. Not too much oomph so plan your passing and dont rely on the 4x4 all the time, kicks in sometimes randomly and if your not expecting it can screw with you.

awd works when it has to, but make sure you have good tires.

Get some good tires and you will be set on snow, I've got a 99 right now.
