haha no i'm not out to try to prove myself better than anyone i'm just curious of what a homophobic atheist thinks about homosexuality from a nonreligious standpoint.
 
that would seem irrational to be a homophobic atheist. isn't the whole thing about homophobes that it goes against the bible? if you were an atheist, you obviously wouldn't have any regard for what the bible had to say.

i dont beleive in god, but im not closed minded about it. im not gay, but i admit im not a big fan of gay people. but if they want to be together, go for it.
 
what i think about homosexuality(and i think religion is bogus) i dont understand how a guy could wanna stick his dong in another guys ass, i cant, the only explanation i will accept for homosexuality is something happened to them thats driven them to find refuge in another mans pooper that they are not willing or trying to get over, same for girls, dont get it, in my opinion homosexuals are just one of the many types of unstable people in society

^that's the best example right there. Some people just think it's wrong, and that it goes against nature (well, theoretically, it does, since you can't reproduce). Honestly I couldn't tell you how it feels to be attracted to someone the same sex but I suppose it's no different than being attracted to someone of the opposite sex. So I accept it, it's slightly weird in my opinion but hell as far as I know it's not a nuisance to anybody, so let them be...

i don't agree with the practice, it doesn't mean that i or anyone else is scared of gay people, or feel threatened by it. we just don't agree with it.

on a side note, the bible says to love thy neighbor. Jesus never condoned the hate of any group of people. any good chrsitian loves gay people as he would himself and any other person. homophobes are lacking faith.

1. i think a lot of the people reading this thread have the wrong presumption. i'm an atheist, a mahayana buddhist if you want to get specific. i'm also a bisexual. i am attracted to men and women.

and by homophobic i don't mean it the the most basic literal sense of fear of gay people. homophobia also refers to contempt and disapproval, they just happen to use the same word.

I'll say it one more time, "disagreement" with someone's sexual "preference" (I use the term loosely) is like "disagreement" with someone's skin colour. I might believe that being black is immoral because I think they're all descended from Cain and bear his mark like in the bible in the form of dark skin... I might not be afraid of them in the typical way, but there's still hate there, still racism.

Well, I do. And just because a book has been interpreted and reinterpreted to disfavour a minority group, just because a few stubborn, blind conservative groups refuse to acknowledge moral progress (I mean, the Pope still thinks that women's place is in the home), doesn't mean the idea of religious spirituality is inextricably interwoven with the marginalization of gays. It's just a cover story for hate, and the cover story is "we're real moral because we follow these arbitrary, unverifiable rules according to a moral system repeatedly disproved BY RELIGIOUS SCHOLARS." Sure, that makes tons of sense.

But none of this answers the question everyone really wants an answer to in here. So...

well, pretty sure gay people enjoy being treated as equals rather than be degraded by condescending cocks, right? thats what is meant by the "love" part.

i don't disagree with their sexual orientation, i disagree with certain actions. it's a bit different to say "i disagree with sodomy as a sexual practice" than "i don't agree with being gay" or "i don't agree with being black" (which is ridiculous, thanks for pointing that out ;P)

i don't care what the catholic church has to say beyond how it harms christian perception world-wide.
 
Totally agree. There was a vegetarian in my nutrition class. SUCH A PAIN IN THE ASS. The gay people just kept to themselves.
 
Yeah this girl at my work is a vegitarian and whenever I'm eating anything with meat, even a damn turkey sandwhich I have to hear her shit. She's pregnant too and having health issues because she gets almost no protien with her fucked up plant diet.

You're right about gays, at least they keep it to themselves.

hmm i always thought an atheist meant that you had no religion but I guess it could also apply to a religion with no "supreme being". i never thought of it that way. cool
 
In Psychology 101 we read that homosexuality is strongly related to your inherited genes, thus you are mostly born with it. Also if you are born with it, its very hard to get away from and make yourself straight. Environment is prly a factor too tho.
 
but seriously i used to have alot of gay/les/bi friends and i got along with them great and didnt see thier relationships as anything different than i would have with a girl, some of them im not friends with anymore and really dislike, but its all because of stuff they did to me and nothing to do with the fact that they are homosexual. i just got angry at some of them because we would get in a fight and they would pull the minority card out and claim i was being mean to them because they are gay... that shit pisses me off, when races, or groups that are minorities say shit like that. and things like saying they want to be treated equally and then they get treated equally and say its not fair because they are a minority and need special attention.

not all people who belong to minorities do this but some do, and i guess its just human nature to try and use what you have to your advantage. but if your attracted to the same sex i think thats totally cool as long as you dont use your homosexuality as an excuse to be treated better than some others as I have seen done from time to time.
