Homemade rails

Where can I get good smooth long piping for making rails? Like 30 or so feet. And also, how do I weld it together to make a shotgun type rail? I do know how to weld and have a welder.

i don't know how to weld them together...but i have a rail that i stole from a construction site...i haven't skied on it but i have used my skateboard and it works great...go to a construction site and either ask them or just take some...it worked for me.

Im going to use smaller pvc for my rail and line it up right next to eachother. Pvc is durable and smooth.im not sure if you can get it in 30' though so you might just have to line them up evenly

Yea, I used pvc this winter, but you have to put supports like every 3 feet or it will bend a lot, with metal you dont have to worry about bending if you build it right. And of course you can mold it into many other shapes and make good kinks in it.

If im building a a downkink or 2 kink rail do I cut the pieces and then weld them together to kink it, or do I bend it in one spot with a torch.

what are you gonna use for the runway and the landing...or is this gonna be a rail for the winter??

I would just bend it wher you want the kinks to be, that way there is almost no way you could catch an edge and fall or something because of a gap in the rail.

so how tall are you gonna make it...and are you gonna put wood under it to keep it stable or what?? how would i make a good one out of my metal without a welder.

im trying to get connecters...they fit perfect and snug inside the pvc with like a square male piece for one and a square female piece for the next...eventually to be for kinks and s rails

An s rail out of pvc.. that would be sick. I think somebody shoudl start a pvc company and sell pvc rails so they would eb high quality and low priced. If you just want a short flat rail though, you could go to like walmart or somewhere. i justy got a 6' one for $15. there is also ebay.

lineskiboard...you just went to walmart and bought a rail...wow. somebody post some pics of their homeade rails.

dude it was $15... a once ina life time chance... you would have done the same. I am making a pvc one this year for summer skiing and ill post the pictures of it once i build it.

i wasn't tryin to dis...i really would've done the same thing...where do you get the pvc? are you making it up...or do you have plans for the rail?

I have been scavenging lately for some items that would be great for rails. This is what I got today. In back of my school, i found a 10' wide, 35' long metal bench seat. It's from the seating they use at our football field and i guess they didn't want this one so i took it. I also got metal playground slide that will work very well to grind. Then i found 2 20' long metal pipes. The last thing i found was a 16' long plastic c-rail thing, I have no idea where it came from, but it is perfect.

I wonder if I could find a chainlink fence and steal the top bar off it. The chainlink is only wired on, so it would be a nice smooth surface. Also, I live on a lake so i have an old boat hoist, but it is all rusty and corroded. I wonder if I could sand it down.

i dont have plans yet but i have an idea of what im doing. plywood comes in sheets 4'x8'. im having it 4 feet tall and 16 feet long (2 sheets). im going to have to sheets of plywood held together by 2x4's in the middle. then i will just add the pvc on the top and extensions on the bottom for balance

by the way... this is lineskobard360... im tired of being associated with skiboarders... nothing against them but as soon as someone sees my name, the disrespect me. and i ski more now anyways

PVC sucks it breaks real easy if it gets cold and it's not as hard as normal rails

You don't know shit about fuck, my man-Robin Williams

not 'breaks' but it bends, and the joints connecting it to the wood suck, and they come loose. Metal has many many many more advantages

1)Metal is sturdier

2)metal is easier to make (if u know how to weld)

3)metal lasts longer

4)metal slides better

5)metal has less of a chance of you catching your edge

6)metal can easily be bent(rollercoaster, rainbow, c rail)

7)Metal is easier to find around your town

Thats just off the top of my head, ill think of more

yea i have no clue how to weld but maybe my tech teacher will do it and ill have my brothers friend bring it to my house in a truck.... now i just gotta find the metal

ya don't use anything but rail, believe me i've tried andy ou'll regret the waste of time, use metal. you can get it anywhere, steel it from construction sites if you're on a budget or if you're loaded go to homedepot or revy and get some but it's hella expensive

Seize the carp

my dad works for a metal company so he got 2 bars and i made a wood frame and put the rails on the frame it worked gret but the rail are short my cusin is also a plumer and he take 20 foot pipes out of houses and he is going to give me sume and help me buils a sick rail

1260 or die

/\ I have a wood frame and 2 rails but how did you connect the metal to the wood?

pvc works fine but the only mistake i made was i bought it at 1/16 inch thick when i needed 1/4 it sucked so bad i did like 7 slides then it cracked... if u have metal use it but 1/4 inch works good too.

to connect the metal to the wood, there are these little clamp things that you can just weld on, a sleeve goes on each side of the wood, and you screw it threw the middle of that, then you dont have to worry about putting holes in the metal

i thought pvc was plastic

and you can get hollow metal rods for about $3 a foot max at an a-boy or hardware store

umm...shit

what about this carpet stuff...cause it's very important to ave a good runway and a good landing...anyone know what it's called and where to get it??

clamin duece 8 since 3/2003...fo sho

i went to a hardware store website and i looked at some inddor/outdooer carpet...they did say some carpet was more durable in weather (more outdooer) and other were less...so i;m thinking te less durable stuff will be more sliipery...anyway the carpet can be attatched to plywood, so you can lay down some plywood for the inruna nd for the landing then lay down the carpet and your all set.
