Homemade Alcohol

So my uncle was telling me a story about how he grew up on an orchard, and at the end of each season, him and his friends would take a bunch of apples and pears and put them all in a barrel with some water. then theyd go back and check on them at the end of summer and it would all turn into booze! so now me and my friends want to try it. were gonna take a bunch of apples and pears and put them in a water cooler and leave it over the summer and try to throw a huge end-of-summer party. anyone think itll work/have any suggestions?

I am no expert, but I think there is more to it than that. I suggest doing some real research before consuming this little biology experiment.

we dont really care about taste, just if itll get you drunk lol. but were starting to wonder if the fruit will just go rotten?

well it turns to alcohol when yeast consumes sugar, and the resulting byproduct is alcohol. the sugar comes from the fruit, and theres some amount of yeast occurring in the air, but i dont know if its enough. and to answer your question of why we dont just buy it, its because were all underage and we dont feel like paying for it.

well its a combination of were underage, cheap, and we just want something to do. worst comes to worst, well just buy some, but why pay for it when you can get it free?

it's going to cost you WAY more to make it. and it's going to take months. and it's a lot easier to hide beer cans than it is to hide your moonshine closet from your parents.

or you could just steal it. thats what i did. until i was man enough to donate to the liquor gods. i've never looked back

The only thing that I have experience close to this is an old pineapple that was sitting on my counter that I ate after like a month.

if you just let it sit in a cooler it will rot and turn all nasty. If you then drank that, you would get really sick.

You have to do other stuff to ferment the fruit. Look it up online, it isn't that hard.
