HomeBrew for Wii

i honestly am not sure either what it is but i know you can get free games and stuff, i just want one review from someone who has downloaded it

yes i hacked my wii about 2 years ago and it's great. i also hacked my ds lite, but thats another story.

ill answer any of your questions, i know pretty much all there is. im not trying to sound cocky but i spent days, if not weeks, learning everything.

if you get the homebrew channel, which is so easy with the 4.0 update, you can do so much more. you dont need a wiikey, no hardware, just patience and you're set. you can download and play ANY virtual console or wiiware game, for free... you can play all the fun homebrew games, use the cool homebrew utilities, etc. also, if you use Ocarina, you can use some pretty nifty cheats in real wii games. you can also be able to play full wii games, but im not 100% sure if you need a wiikey or not. i think you just burn it as a ISO file, then use dvdx. but whatever.

anyways, look, i would really suggest it. it's so rare for your wii to brick. you just need to make sure you dont install sketchy wads if you wanna play wads. wads are vc and wiiware games btw.

id suggest visiting wiiso, its super legit. and wiibrew! both are key to life. youtube also has some dece tutorials. if you want help, post here or pm me.

just to add, softmii is an app that enables you to change the wii home menu theme, its rad.

what are the names of the programs i should get. like a list of the name and what they are would be great

wad manager - it lets you install vc and wiiware games

wii earth - like googe earth, but on your wii

wii physics - fun physics simulation game

snes9x - super nintendo emulator

visual boy advance - gameboy, gameboy colour and gameboy advance emulator

wii 64 - nintendo 64 emulator. its very glitchy, a new release is coming soon.

theres all sorts of other things. id suggest installing the homebrew browser first, then going on it, where you can download all the apps and games (except for wads) straight to your wii

hahaha same

i bought it a few months after release, played for 2 days, it sat there, bought super smash, played for a few days, and it has been sitting there since

nah man. daringharry is right, shits beat! i dont even think it works with the new system menu(4.0)

bannerbomb is your best bet. i used the twilight hack, but thats when i had 3.3 running i believe, then i cautiously upgraded through nintendo cause i couldnt find waninoko's special upgrade anywhere, and the hbc was still there.

i really suggest wiibrew for tutorials on getting the hbc, then look elsewhere for other apps and such

If you do homebrew get a portable hardrive and put coverfloader into homebrew. Then you can just DL and burn wii games for free. You just burn it put the disc in open it to coverfloader and press add game. You can also backup games that you already have.

And a game to check out is The Conduit.

its so easy though, and for someone who wants to install by themselves, its probably the simplest

Yeah, Nintendo kind of just keeps updating the menu so Homebrew can't get on it. Therefore i'm am no longer upgrading the system menu.

ya cuz with an xbox u can break the mold and play games that truley break tradition, like halo, idk anyone who but a 360 just to play halo, nope no one

bump...i'm trying to do this and i got homebrew 4.0 working, the SNES, SEGA, GBA emulators working, the DVDx working (wii now plays dvd's) but i can't figure out how to get burned games working.

Any tips?

i only hacked mine so i could download games and play them for free...i just finished downloading tiger woods pga tour 2010!

Figured it out, thanks anyways guys.

Hello burned games (CoD5, Tiger2010, Smash hits), emulators, dvd playback, plus free games...woo!

Though the engine certainly looks interesting, I

can't imagine this being helpful to indie developers. How would you be

able to actually play your game on the Wii? It's not like you can just

burn it to a DVD and stick it in... if I'm not mistaken, you'd need an

actual devkit from Nintendo, and they don't just hand those out to

anyone who wants to make a game for the Wii and know how to burn wii games.

i dont get what youre asking?

if what youre thinking is how can a wii play burned games, if it doesnt even have the capability of playing a dvd, well:

dvdx is a driver made from some geeks that, with the use of the hbc, installs a driver on the wii, and this enables the wii to play dvd's. then, you can download or torrent full games, scrubbed or not even, and use a special program(i use imgburn), to burn the game as an image file (ISO). then, there are different ways of getting the iso to boot on the wii. im actually having trouble at the moment, but there is an old way of installing a hidden wad that acts as an invisible channel on the wii system menu. this imitates the actual game channel. then, using a backup launcher/loader, you can put the dvd in, and the wii will be able to play it.

its either super easy to configure, or fucking hard. for me, i just tried playing iso's recently, and havent had any luck. i keep getting error -4011 with backup loader 0.1 by waninoko. maybe someone can help? lol.

anyways, i probably didnt answer your question, so be more specific.

yeah it's dope i've done it. with the twilight princess hack. totally worth it cause now i have like 1000+ snes games and didnt have to pay for shit from the virtual console. and also the backup launcher is great and usb loader.

As far as I know, the new Wiis require a mod chip installed. I've got one to do homebrew development, but they're a pain to install. The dog legs are ridiculously tiny and close together.

get backup launcher then find a game with wii torrents and burn the image files to a dvd R and then stick it in the wii. run the backup launcher and voila!

twilight hack is pretty much no longer possible....

"As far as I know, the new Wiis require a mod chip installed. I've got

one to do homebrew development, but they're a pain to install. The dog

legs are ridiculously tiny and close together."

for new wiis it is still possible to put homebrew on. Oh and by the way do not update your system menu.

"get backup launcher then find a game with wii torrents and burn the

image files to a dvd R and then stick it in the wii. run the backup

launcher and voila!"

dvd-r is recommended...

Anybody have The Conduit? gimme your friend code...

holy shit a actual serious reply...

i hacked mine without twilight and without a modchip...just with a few files on an SD card. I play all my downloaded games through an external HD because i could never get discs to work correctly. BTW i play Conduit, but havent been online in a while because i havent bothered setting my wii up on my school's interwebz yet
