hey ive got 2 old speakers that have worked excellent for the past 15 years (they were my dads) and about a year ago the 12" woofers blew out. in each of these speakers there is 1 2 in tweeter, 1 3.5 in mid range and the 12 in woofer. my question(s) is/are where can i buy a replacement, do car stereo woofers work and how do i go about putting the new ones in? the only thing that the woofer is connected to is the red and black speaker wire.

++karma for any help, thanks nsers

Find the model number of the sub then figure out what ohm it is and find a sub that matches that ohm. There are no car audio specific subs. Usually the only difference is the enclosure.

in theory yes. but i dont know if the enclosure will affect anything it prolly will tho. you also should look at the watts that the old one put out, cuz you might have too much bass.

The sub doesn't put out watts... The amp is what powers the sub. You want to match it or have a higher rated sub than the amp but home stereos don't put out enough to be worried about it.
