Holy shit...we won? free....legal....music

I know what this is...

BETA starts out free so they get 500 million bug testers to work out the kinks

then they charge a monthly service fee

BTW, why can't we download it yet? Was supposed to go online 2 hours ago.

ssweett, so you can play them on your ipod, but not until they've figured out how to do it...??? i didnt quite get that bit..

is this like limewire or is it a website that you have to go to everytime? when does it start and so you cant get tunes on your ipod?

search around for a program called "tunebite"

it might work, i have about 500 songs from spiral frog that dont have any DRM on them anymore

that sick. i doubt it will stay free though they probably wont be able to get enough advertising money and end up charging a monthly fee like so many other places do now

I'm on the website right now and it says a beta download will be available at midnight eastern time. I feel like this is somehow to good to be true, theres gotta be some weird deal involved, I don't understand how such a massive industry like the music one could just give up like that and let us just take their music. I'd be rattled if I had been buying CDs and now people can just take the shit for free. Whatever, i dont give a shit, I would still keep downloading music illegally

i agree 100%.

for the record the first article says you can put them on your ipod, but the files are currently not compatible with other mp3 players, at least thats how i read it.

i think its an attempt for the music industry to get control back over the most popular medium. if this works, and they get back control, then there no telling what shit they'll try to pull. if this works and becomes dominant i don't see why they wouldn't try to charge some monthly/annual fee. but maybe they just realize how far people will go and how hard it is to catch pirated music and won't do that for fear of losing control again.

thats kind of paranoid, but there is a shitload of money at stake. it sounds awesome that artists will be paid according to popularity and how many times their songs get played, but where is that money coming from? and will that actually function properly?

Can you get the DRM off with using just the demo? Or do you have to buy/find a key to get the full version?

"only 3/4 major labels agreed to the contract"

EMI and universal have rejected it. warner is still negotiating. sony not available or comment.

based on that the software seems like it would work the way we want it to, not the record labels, which gives me hope. if this launches (and becomes popular), but only smaller labels are on it, it could be a huge boost for underground artists, and might eventually cause the major labels to sign on. so SICK.

and for the record the DRM that Q was supposed to use was more flexible and was intended (officially) to keep track of how many times a song is played, so Q coudl reward artists accordingly.

So are they gonna still try and catch people downloading illegally? If not I'm just gonna keep using torrents and stuff because they don't have a DMR and are easy to put on anything.

Sounds kinda too good to be true, i think they're gonna try to pull something after a bit

Search Megaupload and just download CDs, this is bullshit, and I doubt it will be half as good as they say

it would be so much better if you could use the songs on your ipod without having to convert all of them

hahaha it doesn't even have any of the labels signed up to its service. seems like the whole press release was bullshit

Ha. This is a step backwards.

These files will be loaded with DRM, meaning you effectively can't do anything with them. Want to put the files on your non-apple mp3 player? good luck. Want to transfer them from your desktop to your laptop? You most likley wont be able to. This is a feeble attempt by the RIAA to regain control of a market they are rapidly losing.

Whatever...I'm sure its gonna have some major downfalls if the music industry is actually endorsing it. I think I'll stick with downloading illegally using torrents and supporting legit artists by buying their cd's later or seeing them live.

hmmmmm i got there stupid software, tried to download something and it said downloads not avalible =(

thats weird, i downloaded it, and it let me regester right away. still cant download songs...................................

anybody heard if these will work on zune?
