Holy Shit - Russ Henshaw Double to Rail

Just for reference

This is probably the biggest rail trick since Candide's cork 810 to rail back in the day. Crazy stuff.

reference? You can't compare Brogan and Henshaw. They are two completely different skiers with two completely different skill sets. Progression isn't corrosive to skiing at all, it's what moves it forward. Don't be afraid of change my friend.

Saw this IRL, safe to say everyone was screaming pretty loud when it happened. He only tried it 3 times too.

I would only need 1 attempt since i would die if i ever tried this

"less rotation more style" - Candide thovex

i know people will probably down vote this but skiing is becoming gymnastics. yea the trick was probably really difficult n'shit and im not trying to hate, it was sick AF, but skiing is slowly just fucking dying and becoming gymnastic. Like Candide said "skiing needs to go back to the way it used to be less rotation more style" props to russ though still sick!

you're an idiot. and so is candide a little too for saying that.

nothing will ever be the same as it was no matter how hard you try. things and people are going to evolve. if you're afraid of change then that's your problem.

also how does this resemble gymnastics at all? get your head out of your ass.

not looking for a fight dude thats my opinion i get that people might disagree with it but hey if skiers all thought the same are sport would be boring as fuck.

if skiers only focused on style, every single edit would be over saturated with people trying to swing their arms differently than the other guy.

Almost definitely will happen in a comp within 2 years

Is this also the biggest spin to rail? I know Jossi did a SW 990 in EDIAS but he may have done a 1170 to down box too. Can't remember

Unless they change the set up of a course, and design a feature specifically for this, we won't see this in a comp. I skied past this jump, and that landing was so fucking steep. You can't just build a random jump and put a rail on the landing, you have to build it specifically for it otherwise their sidewalls will blow out.

I want a source on that quote. Seems pretty odd (or at least wildly out of context) from the guy who basically invented huge spins onto rails.

In 90% of all other cases of double to rail you would have been right. However Russ puts a lot of style and clean-ness to that trick which make it even more nuts.

I think it's cool that skiing has yet more insane and steezy stuff to explore.

Can't stop the flow!

Really want to see this at full speed with no music, just to hear everyone losing their shit!

So there's actually people hating on Russ for doing a double onto a rail? It takes so much more skill to double onto a rail than to do a "stylish" switch 5 or whatever the cool trick is these days.

Also he is not only the first one to have done a double to rail, at the same time he's the first one to land a 1170 degrees onto a rail....

It's a crazy trick for sure, but I'd rather watch a Nimbus edit or an edit full of Jossi doing zero spins than an edit full of bangers like this double. A person can respect the skill it takes to pull something super technical or difficult, but still enjoy creativity and simplicity more.

Some of you need to stop being pubes and give credit where it's due. Russ killed it. He even slid the rail instead of just disastering the end and calling it a double to rail. What more would you like?

If this is something that becomes the norm, I can see the argument for style over spins. But this is a one off masterpiece.

13516836:SDrvper said:
Just to play devil's advocate no one said this double doesn't take skill people just would prefer to watch something else

that being said, hats off to you russ, insanely dangerous trick to try

Yeah but let's just get hypothetical here for a second. Say every skier wanted to get super "stylish" and stopped trying new shit and just focused on how clean their switch dub 9's could get or something, the whole of skiing would become so boring with everyone doing the same shit. It's the same reason people don't like comp skiing because everyone does the same tricks. At the end of the day for skiing to survive you need both aspects of the sport. You need people like Russ and Nick pushing comp skiing and then you need people like Khai or Noah to push the style aspect of the sport.

I'm with ya bud. Props to Russ for doing some badass trickery, for sure - not going to take that away from him...

Whatever, I'm going to go watch Royalty again.

This makes so little sense it's difficult to know where to start.

There is one tiny aspect of skiing which has some small similarities with gymnastics, but also a whole lot more differences. That's it. And whatever happens with that tiny aspect of skiing it has no discernible impact on many other aspects of skiing, nor on the various types of skiing that ordinary people enjoy all over the world.

Someone doing a double cork on skis is skiing. Someone doing a snow plow down a green run is skiing. Someone shredding a 55 degree Alaskan spine is skiing. Someone greasing an urban rail is skiing. Someone bashing gates is skiing. Someone climbing a mountain deep in the backcountry then descending on skis is skiing. I don't really see what the fuck gymnastics has to do with anything, especially the 'death' of such a varied sport.

Props to Russ, that was so sick.

If Candide actually said that hes an idiot. 720s looked like shit 10 years ago.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. This is from Anomaly (TGR's 2006 movie, so actually filmed 10 years ago).

At least someone in this thread isn't being an idiot.

"_____" is ruining skiing is getting as old as the sport itself. If X ruins the entire sport, well, I'm sorry to say - but skiing should have died about a decade ago. Yet - here we are!

Also the whole "I'd rather see "Y" instead of "X" is just as dumb. How dare a sport so varied have variation within the different genre's of the sport. "I'd rather see downhill instead of slalom" doesn't make sense, nor does the same argument in park skiing. It's not like a double cork onto a rail has made the Nimbus crew cease to exist.

A lot of us who have been around the park scene since the beginning were skiers in the 90's when skiing did suck (according to outside opinion) and was dying. Yet - we all still skied and loved it just as much as people do today. If the current trend does die, will it really ruin anything at a personal level for recreational skiers?

Why can't I have the opinion that I'd rather watch "X" than "Y"? I WOULD rather watch dh than slalom. I would rather watch backcountry, big mountain or a good park shoot than urban. At no point have I said that watching one thing or another will cause another to cease to exist.

I've been around since the days when skiers weren't allowed in 'snowboard parks'. I'm down with progression and crazy things happening, but that doesn't mean I love watching it.

You can have that opinion, I just don't see the point of saying it. Sounds too 'us against them'. Olympics didn't kill the urban skier, or even unique style oriented events. Quad corks won't kill double 7s, and so on and so forth. Grassroots events are still alive and well.

I guess whynotboth.jpg fits here. Watching something like a double onto a rail and saying "I'd rather watch something else", while true (cause opinion and all that), is unneccesary negativity which doesn't really help with discussion about the initial topic.

It's like if someone asks you how work went today and you respond with "if rather be skiing". Sure, that's great, but it doesn't really have to do with the question at hand. L

All these pros push the sport in all sorts of different directions and that's what is greatest about freeskiing. This sort of park-based tech is what Russ is unashamedly interested in (and really good at).

Him doing a dub to rail doesn't mean B Dog does any fewer tail presses. You wouldn't want Russ to do that stuff anyway. You can and do have both

Gus could probably do it, being so close with Miley n all

Now what I want to see is Gus doing a massive gap to rail with miley clutched in his arms, twerking away.
