I like the elephant and the burning at the stake idea let's combine them and go with the roman elephant over a fire burning to death in a super hot elephant over time. Sounds about right for those fucks
 
Don't know I'd it's been mentioned yet but there was a method of killing back in Greco-roman times that included putting people inside a metal bull and essentially steaming them to death. That would be appropriate for these people.
