if you follow the directions you pick a number, scramble the digits to make a different number. Then subtract the SMALLEST from the BIGGEST and then circle a digit in the difference.

The ebaums one is really simple to figure out. When you do that math it has to be a multiple of 9. All multiples of 9 have the same symbol so therefore it will get the answer everytime. It tricks you by changing the symbols for the multiples of 9 everytime you click the try again button

its the same way the dictionary trick works. pick a random word in the dictionary, and by the process of elimination you can do it by asking what half it was on. in less than 20 times, you will have the exact word.

Dude all it is is that when you take a 2 digit number and subtract the numbers you always get a multiple of 9 and the symbol for all the multiples of 9 are the same.

So not that I came up with this on my own but...

No matter what three or four digit number you pick (that is inline with the rules), if you jumble it up and subtract one from the other, the answer will always be divisible by 9.

For example: I pick 282. I can jumble this into 228 or 822. Say I pick 228 so 282 - 228 = 54.

There is a rule that says 'if you add up the digits in any number that is divisible by 9, the sum is divisible by 9'. As you can see, 54 is divisible by 9 since 5 + 4 = 9.

So, finding your circled number is easy. They just sum up the digits you enter and subtract them from the next highest number that is divisible by 9. In the example, if I pick 5, then I enter in 4 and the site goes '9-5=4 so you picked 4!'

Another example:

5791 -> scramble to 9751

9751-5791=3960 (3+9+6+0=18 - which is 9x2)

I pick '6' and enter '3,9,0'.

The computer goes: 3 + 9 + 0 = 12, so 18-12=6. You picked 6!

That's the answer.

 
for the mindprobe thing the way it works is that first you have your 2-digit number which can be written as 10*a + b, where a is between 1 and 9 and is also the first digit of the two numbers, and b is between 0 and 9 and is the second digit

when yo subtract each of the digits from the two digit number the answer is.... 10*a +b - a - b= 9*a

therefore there are only nine possible outcomes to chose from, which are 81, 72, 63, 54, 45, 36, 27, 18, and 9, and if you look at the list of symbols you will see that the symbol corresponding with each of the numbers is ther same, and the a diferent symbols is used each time you try it to try to trick you into not seeing this pattern

hope that makes sense to you but this is hard to explain using only writing
