Holly shit Shark atack

you guys are retarded....of course it isnt real...it is a example of how big the megaladon actually was//

they are cool as hell and play a vital role in the ecosystem of the ocean, they are the garbage men.

I cannot even believe you're serious. Great White Shark attacks are so freaking rare it's rediculous. There might be 4 in the whole world a year.

The fast majority of attacks occur with smaller more agressive sharks. Such as Tiger, Bull, and Mako. And in fact the Bull Shark has the highest testosterone level of any animal in the world. While you see all of these extreme attacks with Great Whites on TV, the chance of them actually attacking a human is so small.

To say that sharks should be killed is rediculous. If you honostly want to worry about them everytime you're at the beach, you're going to have a bad time. As shown before in those stats, you're much more likely to drown or be stung by a jellyfish. Being attacked by a shark ranks up there with things like winning the lottery, getting struck by lightning, being hit by a meteorite, growing a 3rd arm out of your face, and Michael Jackson not being attracted to little boys.

Yeah, if you are scared of sharks, go look into Box Jellyfish. Box Jellies are small primitive and near invisible, and the sting from the smallest one can immobilize your nervous system and make you sick for days, provided you get only a small sting that doesnt outright kill you, and get rescued from drowning (since you are pretty much just convulsing in a few minutes).

Sharks are nothing to fear. I'll admit it is creepy to think of them while you are in the ocean. I fish regularly for them during the summer months and always return them to the sea except for the 7 footer I got last year. My kids will tell you that they are no big deal. We surf all the time knowing that they are right under out feet.

This pic shows a natural reaction to a shark. The sand bar shark is harmless (no teeth) yet you would think thier leg was about to be bitten off because it wiggled.

stop making comparing being struck by lighting and being atacked by a shark. they are completely differnt. when you get struck by lightning your almost always in a lightning storm (unless you pissed "god" off and he decides to just smite you on a clear summer day) and most of the time your holding something metalic thats why most lighting victims are golfers (or maybe god just hates golfers)

when you get aatacked by a shark you dont have to have provoked it it can just atack for no reason, and the fact thatin the water its just a perfect killing machine makesit that scary. with a shark you can be paddling one second thinking how great the water is and the nextyou could be in a 20 foot fishe's jaw.

the fact The Ocean is a fucking scary place. being in the middle of the ocean floating with 15 thousand feet of water underneath you. 15,000 feet of water where some of the hugest animals on this planet live and can swim in 3d space can swim 20 or more times faster than you. and you cant see your feet which are about 5- 6 feet bellow you

it doesnt matter that the chances of getting atacked have been historically low, there are sharks out there and they can atack. shark atacks have been increasing over the years and their have been many incidents of Jaws like atacks where asingle shark or group of sharks camp about 100 feet from a beach and kill 5 or 6 humans in less than 2 weeks.

If I die skiing I got on the lift/hellicopter/or hiked to the destination and then my inability to deal with the terain/conditions is what kills me

if I die of lightning I was stupid and stayed outside during a storm.

a shark atack is much closer to walking down the street and having phsycho killer pick you randomly out of a croud and cut you up. except your in the ocean and its a phsycho killer who is 500 times your weight and 4 times longer than you are. and goes 20 times faster than you in that element.

i was watching the history channel a while back and there was this thing on shark attacks and it was like the early 1900's. there was one shark that killed like 10 people in one year and then they finally killed it. thats where they got the movie jaws from.

well the Jaws Story has happened a bunch of times. in New Jersey in 1916 4 people were killed in 12 days.

one mother who was swimming got atacked by a shark and by the time rescuers got to her only the top half of her torsoe and her head were there floating in the water... the shark came back to get that a little later. another list his leg in one bite he died of massive blood loss, another lost both of his feet.

here is what shark atacks can do. now I would prefer to be struck by lighting then to be remembered like that

"Falling coconuts kill 150 people worldwide each year, 15 times the number of fatalities attributable to sharks," said George Burgess, Director of the University of Florida's International Shark Attack File and a noted shark researcher.

does this mean I should be afraid of coconuts? or cars because of how manyaccidents happen every day.

its not about the chances of it happening its about what happens. im not afraidof death. im afraid of being in the water with a 20 foot animal taking a chunk out of me when the second before he did that I didnt know of his presence

...your level of mental capacity amazes me. I hope that you are a small child simply afraid of sharks when you go to the beach, rather than a young adult incapable of conducting an intellegent debate.

There have been only 2,035 shark attacks and 468 fatal attacks... ...IN THE PAST 425 YEARS.

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/statistics/GAttack/World.htm

The average number of people struck by lightning a year in the coastal US is 39.6. ...the average number of people attacked by sharks a year in the coastal US is 16.4. Thats right you heard it. On average over 23 more people get struck by lightning than attacked by sharks in the coastal US a year.

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/attacks/2004lightning.html

It is estimated that the attendance for US beaches in the year 2000 was 264,156,728. 132 people died from something other than a shark attack. 23 people were attacked by sharks. There were no shark related fatalitis. In the year 2000. 1 out of 11.5 million people were attacked by a shark.

You're a moron.

Heres the whole site if anyone cares:

http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/Sharks/ISAF/ISAF.htm

^You don't seem to get that, T-man is just explaining why he finds shark attacks so scary. He knows they are extremely unlikely, and that his fears are irrational.

ohh man people are starting to get pissed hahaha. I love it.

please apologize for calling me a moron because I really dont apreciate being called a moron by someone I dont know over the internet and its something that will keep me up at night until I get a heartfelt E-apology

and please everybody stop bringing in statistics. statistics are bullshit and useless.

you give me the chances of people getting bitten by a shark. well what people are you talkingabout? because sure the people who get bitten by sharks in comparisson to the 8 or so billion people in the world is very small. now if yo focus on america

a person in Masachucetts im pretty sure has a 0% chance of getting bitten and if you average that with the chance of someone in California whatever the number is for a person in california to get bitten (that would be how many people are bitten by sharks/how many people are in california) you just divided whatever that California number is by half. and with 50 states many of which have no sharks the chances become very small.

lets say you have a statistic for the chances of a dedicted surfer (someone who surfs 3 times a week all year)in southern california to get bitten by a shark. that number is going to be much higher than all other groups (I happen to be in that group)

and its not about frequency or chances of it happening. I pointed out that sharks are scary to me. then a bunch of people started using statistics to prove to me that their not. fuck you, ill have my fears and you have yours. try to tell a first time 40 year old skier that a black diamond at Snow Summit isnt scary because 0 peopl have died there. giving facts and numbers is nice but everyone tries to use them to prove points that dont mean shit.

and if your worried about the sharks let me lay your fears to rest I dont have the time, energy, drive, funding, power, resources, intelligence to kill every last shark on this planet

you dont need to be afraid of the ocean... just when ever you decide to swim in it carry i huge deep sea divers knife incase of emergency.. thats what my uncle does when ever he goes diving except its not for sharks... spacifically its like if he gets caught in a net or something, and also predators

If you're too pussy to go in the ocean and be apart of the other 11,499,999 people that arean't attacked by a shark thats fine. Continue to concentrate your recreation in statistically more dangerous activites like lets say... skiing.

Just don't come on NS saying things like:

"I hope sharks go extinct soon. I'll start eating shark fin soup once a week if it makes it go faster."

"ohh my god I didnt know alot of the information in there. well if their so expensive thats a good reason for fisherman to go and get them. so they should do that."

"I really hope the great white is on that list and I seriously hope that hes one of the first to go. like if he was gone by 2009 that would be perfect."

"kill all Great White sharks they are totally useless to the earth."

"I am also pretty useless in the Echosystem. if I or the rest of the human race were to die today the world would be a much better place and animals could live happily in a well balanced echosystem.

....unfortunatly for those animals I and the rest of the human race have a very very very strong sence of self preservation we are smarter, better equiped and driven by all sorts of things (greed, thrill of the hunt, thrill of having, eating rare things)

so fuck sharks, lets just blow all of them up"

Go right ahead... play the sarcasm card.

the comparisons make more sense than you think. re-read your post. in a storm, lightning is the number one killer, it is the number one predator so to speak. in the ocean, i doubt that sharks are even the number one killer but anyway they are truly the number one predator of the ocean. therefore, lightning is more dangerous than sharks and you should be more scared of lightning than sharks cause i would assume you would be more likely to be caught in a storm in your life than you are to even see a shark in its natural habitat.

easy, easy. he's just saying how scary they are.

i don't care how few and far between attacks are, they're still scary as crap.

i distinctly remember seeing that in a nat. geo. magazine article about photoshopped pictures. they were debunking some of the most popular, and this was on the list.

Yeah, looks more like a dolphin anyways, check out the tail. Just get a POD's transciever, its been proven to stave off shark attacks.

No that's real, it's just a dolphin. No photoshop or anything, it's common in some waters for that to happen.

T-man, you remember killer bees? well, you are more likely to die from africanized honey bee attacks than ever even being touched by a shark.

You are more likely to die crossing the road tomorrow, or falling off a bike and killing yourself, than you are of even seeing a shark that can kill you. The man eaters in the world are the great white, and their numbers are very few and far between, the bull shark, which rarely kills anyone, the tiger shark, which is far more dangerous than a great white but that you will only meet in warm tropical waters, and the great hammerhead, which you have to be out in the middle of friggin nowhere to get nabbed.

Let's put your fears of sharks into perspective man.

Also, if all sharks dissapereaed from the world, the oceans would die. That's great eh?

...which is a completely unsubstantiated fear, given the evidence to the fact that you will not die or even see a shark in your lifetime, comapred to ahving a drunk driver run you over on your way home from a party...

The 1916 story is that of a bullshark, NOT a great white. It happended in a fresh water environment, which is why no one knew it was a shark and therefore did not take any heed to the warnings of shark sightings. Hollywood decided to take the biggest, scariest shark that eats people once every 20 years, the Great White, and now has you, the impressionable pessimist, trapped in fear...which was th epoint of the movie: to scare you.

Would you go into an abandonned house?Or the woods? I mean, Blair Witch is pretty damn convincing and all... maybe you should paly it safe and burn all the woods. Because all the predators int he woods know where you are, and are out to kill you, and you have no idea where they are. completely reaosnable right?

I have seen Sharks frequently in the waves, not that large. This was caught just last week. Bethany Beach DE. Yes we release them!

SandTiger.jpg

Just stokin those phobias!! LOL!! Close up of the same fish. Sand Tiger! GRRRRRRRR............. Caught on tuna belly

STMOUTH.jpg

The big guys are showing up, just a few more degrees on our beaches and they will be thick. These monsters are an adrenline rush to play tug of war with. I have handed rods to kids, girls, grown adults who were terrified and very reluctant at first, it's amazing to see human instincts take over when they feel a big live animal on the other end of the line. The determination and look on their face is priceless.

SANDTIGER-8feet.jpg

man, i've seen a 10 foot nurse shark or at least that's what i hope it was cause i was diving the rhone's wreck and i was away from my parent's and my buddy when that thing came swimming out of the blue, literally the blue haze in the water... i just sat there thinking, please don't let me die, where are my parents ( i want my mom), where's my knife, oh shit... thank god that i decided to breathe after a minute and the expunging air our of my tubes scared the shark away... i quickly swam back to the group

Holly shit those teeth are freaky.

now for all the dumbasses who didnt bother to read my responses.

I said I am afraid of Sharks.Sharks (mostly Great Whites) the crazy FISH with razor sharp teeth. im afraid of them because they can be really close to me without me knowing about them. I at no point said that I afraid of DYING. if I had said I am Scrared of dying then you can give me all those statistics about how I have a bigger chance of dying skiing, by coconut dropng on my head, lighting, and the other millions of things that are more dangerous to my life than Sharks. BUT I didnt say that I said Sharks, and I gave good reasons why. I dont care how slim the chances of being atacked are.

the fact that there is a chance and that while in the ocean a fish can come out of nowhere and take a chunk out of me is not out of the realm of possibility is what scares me. I dont care if it happened once in the past 300 years or 10 times a day every day. the fact that it can happen scares me.

I dont think this fear is unhealthy or impedding my life in any way since I just went surfing yesterday.

I was just sharing a fear I had at a moment when to me that fear was very intense (in the safety of my bedroom) I didnt need you guys to tell me that im a dumb ass for being scared of them.

nurse sharks dont attack humas they r completly harmless they are bottom feeders and they mostly eat shell fish no need to be afraid next time

Please shut, how many lethal shark attacks have their been in socal in the last 10 years? 0, thats right. Socal has so many swimmers/surfers with little to no shark attacks compared to cen/norcal. Don't even complain about your "shark problem" When was the last time you went to the beach and their is a washed up sea lion with its head bitten off? Never? Thats right. Try 2 days ago here.
