Dear NSG,

I am from chilly Wisconsin, but really lucked out and am spending my holiday vacation in the Pasadena area. I have never ventured this far West, and am looking for suggestions for things that my girlfiend and I could do to pass the time...

Im looking for some places to eat, preferably out-of-the-way, lesser known, unique spots, stuff to do (like beaches to hit, things to see ect.) and what to do on NYE! Let me know what you think. Thanks a bunch...

haha yeah that would be tight...i think mammoth is closer though....I dont think i am bringing my skis along. kind of a lot of extra bagagge for one day on the slopes, although they are pretty good slopes

xmas in LA is pretty sweet, especially during new years time. Theres the Rose Bowl game Jan 1 in Pasadena and plebnty of football and bar related things. Old Town is pretty sick.

I always go to Hermosa or Dockweiler beach at that time for a bonfire Id reccommend that for sure.

yeah I am def. going to the game, main reason why I am down there. I will for sure check out Old Town and keep an eye peeled for those beaches though, thanks for the heads up

yeah in-and-out for sure, totally love fast food. you guys know any tight spots in Chinatown, looking for some super authentic chinese food, or any ski shops where I check out some stuff?

i dunno, good ideas so far, thanks for that, keep ideas coming!

went to the rose bowl last year, headed to glendale this year (GO DUCKS!) Anyways definitely go check out Santa Monica (the prominade/pier are pretty cool) checking out the rose parade floats while they're making them is cool. La Brea Tar Pits, Disneyland, Knotts Berry farm, Universal Studios. i feel like magic mountain is closed though. Going and just checking out beverly hills/rodeo drive is pretty cool. Oakley store hollywood. Griffith Park Observatory is a must (location of a ton of movies including Yes Man, Transformers, and Linkin Park performed there for the VMA's this year) I'm sure there's going to be wisconsin based events put on around the city too.

Well holy shit I'm doing the same thing only like an hour north of San Diego (pretty much Anaheim and LA). But fyi the LA Kings are in town the 23rd. Tickets are cheap too since people out there don't get too much hockey exposure...

not really, I've only been there in the daytime and it's a great view of LA/Hollywoodhills. I actually don't know if it's open at night but I bet it would be cool to see all the lights. Oh and how could I forget Roscoes Chicken N' Waffles. (they're all in pretty sketch areas, but damn it's so good)

malibu. go to zuma beach, then up to point dume. grab an early dinner. go up the PCH a mile or so to the Trancas market for pulled barbecue sandwiches, (they are incredible), or head up to Neptunes net, for a little more formal dinner. just a few minutes up the PCH. amazing seafood, and it's a bit of a landmark spot.
then take route one up to leo coreo. stop and watch the twilight swell, if you want. then take mulholland hwy back through the santa monicas. very picturesque drive.

also, the universal city walk is always fun for a bit a light nightlife. you should check out venice beach for some timeless california culture. also, groundworks coffee shop is sweet.
rent bikes at santa monica maybe? consider taking a day trip up to santa barbara as well, maybe consider spending the night? trust me, sb is a good choice.
one of my favorite things to do when i go back is cross country mtb through the santa monicas, around New Berry Park. you can ride all the way down to the beach if you want. you may be able to find an outfitter that will rent the bikes, idk. might be worth looking into.
