Holiday valley

I'm assuming most people on this site don't know where Holiday Valley is. That being said, this should probably belong in New York regionals.

And I haven't been there in probably 6 years. So yeah, ride the Wall?

Never been but talked to their park manager at cutters camp and he seems like a good dude and knows what's up. Would like to get to some of those mountains eventually but it's hard to justify a long drive to western NY.

As far as the thread why wouldn't you tell us what you thought?

Yo it ski at holiday and it sucks balls. I put in about 60 days this year and I can tell you that they switched up the park twice. There is a holiday valley thread in the New York regionals so check that out.

Probably the best hill as far as WNY goes, though I prefer Kissing Bridge as it is less crowded and gets more snow. Decent park until it inevitably turns into a sheet of ice. Probably would be more fun if I was better at park. Lots of yuppie gapers who rent the nearby cabins for the weekends.

Looking forward to moving to Boulder in 3 months and learning in some real parks that are actually maintained by the mountain.

Overall, 5/10, would not bang.

Don't bother coming up here, all of the parks are beyond pathetic and 6-10 years behind the times.

Damn, that's sad. With some of the threads I've seen recently I thought maybe they were steppin their games up and doing the sick park at a small mountain thing.

I'm still in NY but some of the heavy hitters in VT are only a few hours away.

The closest I've been to any of those was riding lab a handful of times over a decade ago.

Grew up around there, it's chyll. Having the opportunity to night ski every day is awesome. Also, KB is just as chyll, a bit more local vibe, less ritzy.

By far the best place to ski in western New York. The mountain is awesome, grooming is excellent, employees are very friendly, the parks are pretty fun, and their snowmaking is amazing. They run automated HKD snowmakers that can blow snow in 38 degrees and are adding 3million dollars more into snowmaking over summer. It has the best and most lifts in WNY, the most trials and the widest variety of trials, the most night skiing, and always always have the longest seasons out of all the resorts in WNY.

Just do your self a favor and just don't go to Kissing Bridge. That place is god awful.

holiday gets way more snow than kb trust me i live right next to kb, and ski at holiday mostly. everything about holiday is so much bigger and better than kb. holiday is definitely hands down the best resort in wny.

i couldnt have said it any better my self

Went there once this year, it looked like somebody built the park with a shovel. Their jumps were pathetic compared to the jumps at my measly ohio resort.

Save your time and go to springs.

I agree with you, except kissing bridge has a more local vibe and is defiantly cheaper and less crowded. that being said, kissing bridge never rebuilds their park all season, and the lips and landings are badly maintained.

i would go to holiday valley before kissing bridge any day of the week. however, kb is only 25 minutes away from me so i go to kb mostly.

Kb changed up the park last season..? It was towards the end of the season but it was sick what they had set up. The thing about kb is their park crew doesn't really give a shit about anything except for the features they want to hit. They never keep up with any of the lips or landings and it's annoying as shit. To be honest the closest I've ever seen someone fixing something was when this kid was laying inside the rollercoaster box... smoking a blunt. Other than that though, kb had some pretty cool features set up this season.

Holiday is bigger than kb but it has like a really serious vibe there. Idk how to explain it. And every time I went there this season their park was closed so I didn't get to ride it. I'd rather go to kb though, its only like 20 minutes away and everyone there is awesome.

Actually this year Kb had 200 inches and holiday only had 135 inches. Holiday just maintains it a shit ton better.

they changed it for that event at the end of the season and it was only open for a few days. generally, once a feature is set up in the main park it wont move for the rest of the year.

that being said, kb had some pretty creative features this season (for kbs park crew at least). unfortunately, a lot of them got shitty fast because they barely maintained them.

sounds like welch village in minnesota as far as the park goes

The mass amounts of gapers who ride through that park though definitely don't help.

Been skiing HV and peekn peaks parks for years now. HV parks keep getting worse along with the crew and employees. Not chill at all. Peek is the opposite all that with super clean parks and crew. It's more towards Erie PA. Always have a good booter set up (40-50) unlike HVs "booters". Fuck I really don't like HV at all but it's closest to me. End rant

Lab looks legit. If you're coming this way ever check out Peekn Peak and then 7 Springs. Springs is worth a little more driving

Really? I kind of like Kissing Bridge more than Holiday to be honest. I think there big park has a nice combo of different rails and they do a good enough job of setting everything up. Last time I was there they had a nice closeout and cannon rail type thing. Yeah the jumps blow but to be honest there not really all that worse than Holidays. Plus the vibe at KB is chyyyyll.

Really the only two complaints I have about WNY is that Holiday Valleys atmosphere is acidic and nobody can make a proper a jump. Other than that I enjoy the 10-15 days of skiing I get in here when I'm at school.

Basically what everyone else is saying here. The mountain and all the options are pretty cool. The vibe is pretty good everywhere except the park. The park has just been set up awful for years, and their excuse was that not enough people use it, which is only because it is consistently set up like a comp course and sucks to hike/ hang out on (giving it serious vibe). Someone needs to work on a long flowing park there and that place would be dope but they cater to the damn yuppy Canadians and people who only ski 1-2 times a year which is 80% of people in WNY. GOD DAMN STOP BUYING LIFTS, SNOW MAKERS, CHALETS, MULTI MILLION DOLLAR BULLSHIT AND PUT IN A LEGIT PARK.

Ill stop there

I'm def gonna get back to lab again. I think that might be the first place I hit a rail in like 99. PLace built some pretty monster jumps for the times back then. Def had a cool thing going in that park. Probably only made it there 4 or 5 times but had a lot of fun.

Maybe I'll try and get a job at one of those resorts at some point. WNY wasn't really on my job radar but if it really needs some love and any of those places are down to make some changes/ put a few bucks into the park, I could get down.

skied there through college. before college i was used to skiing mountains like whiteface and mountains in vermont. that being said, i still didn't mind holiday. yeah it's small, but it gets the job done.

peek n peak is better for park. The peek's park blows HV out of the water. In my honest opinion i don't think Holiday's parks have any flow to them at all.

That being said..holiday valley is an awesome hill to ski. Somewhat challenging trails and a cool vibe around the mountain, but not so much in the park.

I'm biased towards pknpk because it's my home mountain but if you ski both on the regular give me 5 good reasons why HV has a better park than Peek n Peak.

ive only been to peek n peak once, and i have to say peek n peaks park is by far the best park in wny. i guess the only argument hv has is it is the closest thing to a mountain in wny (largest vertical, longest trails, good woods skiing, etc.). that being said, i would choose peek n peak over holiday valley or kb any day. unfortunately, pknpk is an hour and a half away from me so it is harder to get to than kb (25 minutes) or holiday valley (50 minutes). this season im gonna try to get to pknpk a few times regardless.

please try to get a job as park manager at kissing bridge. the parks have so much potential, but the current park crew doesn't take advantage of it.

YES. Oh my god, dude you've got so much potential to being to kb. Park Crew at kb fucking suck. Like I said before they only maintain their favorite features and let everything else go to shit and they smoke weed all day, everyday. I've never seen any of them fix or work on anything. I'm actually trying to get on park crew this year. It probably won't happen but it's worth a shot. Definitely would like to help bring kb's park up to what it could be.

Theres potential in WNY. People sleep on the park scene around here. Peek n peak is the only hill getting things done.

Word. If a job opens up in the next few years I might try and snag it depending on where I'm at.

Smoking isn't necessarily bad, but not getting shit done is weak. I'll see what pops up for jobs Good luck if you get on the park crew. IF you do kill it. The world needs more girls throwin down on park crew.

Word. There's potential pretty much anywhere that has the people and the features or he budget to build some. The closest I've been to any of those is lab, and never really seen much about them.

At this rate I'm never gonna leave the east coast. ICE COAST 4 LYFE

kb has to many old people on their board or whatever (whoever makes the decisions) they refuse to put any money into it. i dont think they have put money into it since they bought holiday's old lifts back in the stone age.

If the abortionator had the park manager job Id throw a fucking fiesta.

There is nothing better than going to kb late on a weekday and lapping their park with your favorite playlist going. There's usually no one there and its awesome. That's pretty much it about kb, they do have reallllllly good French fries though. Maybe you go to kb first to buy some fries then take said fries to hv and eat them there.

Holiday is dope, it's an overall better mountain but it also comes with an overall higher price. The trails are great and hv maintains the mountain well besides the park. The park sucks cock and has sucked cock for the previous two seasons. I don't see a change in the future though besides the possibility of the park being relocated to moonshadow. For those who don't know hv's park is really steep and you can grow a beard with your time spent on the chairlift to the run. Moonshadow is relatively flat and has a high speed lift.

tl;dr abortionator is awesome (plz come to hv), kb sucks but can be fun when no one is there, hv has a decent mountain/shitty park. Pknpk is the only place close with a reputable park.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Aballs nailed it, Abortionator we need the help at the park at HV, I suck a lot at park but I try and I have fun, I can tell the park at HV is poo, but its my home mountain and i get around 30 days skiing there a season so I'd love a good park.

I don't even know you guys and not sure if the opportunity will ever be there but I appreciate your faith in me. I'll keep it on my radar. No idea what I'll be doing after this season but if I'm between jobs at some point and that job comes up I might take a stab at it. Hopefully the new person is able to turn the park around. I've never been there and don't know much about the place but hopefully things get moving in the right direction.

Everybody should have a good park to shred. At lest things are much better than they were 10+ years ago. If any of you guys are interested/old enough. Take a stab at getting on the park crew or getting involved letting management know that you ski there and ski primarily park/ want a better park. If you get on the park crew obviously you'll have the ability to make shit proper but if not maybe you can let management know that people DO care about parks and it might be worth while to invest in their parks. The amount it take to turn get a park rolling isn't THAT much compared to how expensive everything is running a ski area. On the same note money is tight many place but setting aside a little bit to build some new features and getting competent people to set them up can make a world of difference.

I'll check in on thing though and see what's happening from time to time. Hope everything goes well for you guys this season! Even if the park is meh try and take advantage of anything that's decent there and remember that it's still probably better than other places.

I was talking to the local ski shop, park manger update

As far as the doings at Hv, yes the guy that ran the park has moved on. They've hired a new guy. I will say that he doesn't have much experience in the park, but will have a great support team behind him. He will be more of a business manager side of it and their will be a build team under him. It'll be interesting for sure!

Bristol is where its at, but wayy to many gapers and ski patrol

I mean honestly Bristol probably has a better park per square inch than HV but HV's is much bigger and more diverse. With that being said, skiing HV is all around better for anywhere else around the mountain.

On holidays website it now says the park is staying on foxfire and the boardercross is staying on moonshadow but the snoozer park is being moved to fiddlers elbow.... Does anyone know what is actually going on ?
