Hokkaido Drift - Japan Ski Edit (critique)

Hey NS,

After being in Japan over the New Year and doing some filming with my brothers I've finally managed to find time to finish up my latest edit. We went last year and this year was just as good, if not better! It snowed 15-25cm a day (no joke) bar one day when it rained - luckily it didn't take long to cover up that layer. Only had one day when it was bluebird... crazy!

We also did a couple tours with the famous Black Diamond which was sick! Just jumped in a van and off we went finding sick untouched terrain everywhere!

Unfortunately my brother took an awkward fall early on in the trip so had to keep things mellow, still managing to hit some nice pillows! He ended up taking the camera most the time because of it, I think he did a pretty good job though. Its a shame I couldn't film more of him.

Here an link to the vid on NS if you want to vote it up: https://www.newschoolers.com/watch/606231.0/JAPAN---Hokkaido-Drift?c=11&o=10&t=6

Hope you guys enjoy it and feel free to critique the video - always looking to get better!

Sooooo sick

I know you aren't still there, but I personally like shots of tree taps where all the snow falls off the tree, I feel this really shows how much snow there is. Also some footage closer to the skier. I could do with a little less shots from the beginning where you are just getting in turns, but this could be where you are shooting closer to the skier instead.

Puppies were cute in the snow.

as i've already said, great job on this edit. i loved your nose butter 360 and those pillows were enviable.

Thanks man!

Don't know exactly what you mean by tree taps..? You mean where you get a kicker which boosts you onto a tree branch and you ski over so the snow falls down? Or literally just hitting a tree with your pole so the snow falls down..? I know what you mean by some closer shots and less turns, but we just got what we could when we were there as skiing all that pow and trying to get some film at the same was hard haha. I wanted to be there longer so we could start finding more pillows, etc and star throwing some tricks.

Thanks everyone else, glad you like it. Any more critiques?

that trip looks like it did not suck!

I'm really hoping to be able to do a japan trip with both my brothers at some point

very very nice.

i'd just say that it could have used some color correction, the whites changed a little.

also that's like the 3rd time someone song jacked that song from one of my edits.

Thanks, yea i think I see what you mean on the whites. Was hard to get them all the same as the weather was so variable. Sometime uping them meant they were blown out. Il have a re look.

Also on that song I had no idea anyone else had used it. I had it locked away as soon as I heard it a while back and thought I was lucky that no edits had been brought out with it. Nevermind, a good song we can all share.

So sick I loved it! I know that making edits of skiing other than park is a real challenge so I appreciate how much work you put into this man!

Ha yea, that would be awesome to have in there but its not as easy finding those spots in a short time to be able too. Thanks again though.

@Tanner-D Thanks for the comments! I appreciate you acknowledging the work I/ we put in.

Filmed and edited so well. And it got me incredibly psyched to shred some pow next year. Those pillow lines looked like so much fun

Thanks for the bump, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. I cant wait to get back to the pow myself, only... 8 months to wait... damn
