Hey Everyone,
It's that time of the year again and the Hoedown Throwdown is approaching quickly. This is the best event in WA hands down for a legit slopestyle and lets keep the skier turn out big as usual. This year they are doing an online-ish way of signing up for those of you who can't sign up the day before the event up at the mountain.
Step 1:
http://www.stevenspassfreeride.com/PDF/hoedown_2010_register.pdf

Print this ^ Fill it out.
Step 2: Write a check:
Step 3: Combine Step 1 and 2 and mail both of them to this address
Stevens Pass Freeride Team HOE DOWN THROW DOWN ENTRY FORM 824 North 196th Court Shoreline, WA 98133
Looking forward to seeing everyone out there and lets blow this event up so we can make it even more legit for following years.

It's that price because thats what it costs to put on the event. The people putting on the event don't make any $ from putting the event on so until there are much bigger sponsors for the event it's got to be this high.
Vermont Open (last year they did it in 2007): $150
Mount Snow Open: $100
March Mayem: $75
US Open: Can't remember but definitely a few hundred...
Honestly I want this event to turn into the West Coast version of the Vermont open. It was a well run comp with lots of talent. It would be cool to see some of the top AM's coming to Stevens for this event...

I move to change the name to the Washington Open...makes it sound more legit.

Plus the story on the homepage right now is about a comp named showdown throwdown hoedown, which is pretty damn similar to this one.

damn! i get back the same day as it starts...i guess that wont work out...ugh, JA and now this..fuck

since there's a pre-registration for this, could it be full if i wait till saturday to register? or can i just turn in my ish on saturday

potentially yes it could be full. but I doubt it. just make sure you get your stuff in saturday AM and not wait til later that day.

The weather looks pretty much ballin!!! Were gettin togetha a group of kids (me, Briggs, and 2 others) to trip up there on thursday night or friday morning, but we need to find a place to crash!!! If anyone can figure something out that would be really sick and make it alot easier for us cause i dont think were trying to pay for a condo or something unless they be for bums!

looking like my self, big_spence, shampson, and dirtystyle will be crashing at my cabin(25min down on the eastside of the pass) and there should be enough room if you wanna stay there...

chilllll thanks a bunch man that makes it sooo much easier on us. Im still debating wether or not it would be worth it to head up to stevens, i mean are the prizes pretty legit? Cause im gonna prob buy a spring pass cause it would be most worth it and entry to the comp so thats 155$ right there... dont really know if im gonna spend all that just to shred this comp but you guys tell me!

Come up man! If anything we'll make it worth your while with good times at the cabin. We purchased the spring passes just for last weekend and this one, just do it like nike.

Damn I'd go but I can't afford it, should be pretty sick though. There is going to be some killer unknown talent there.

this is purely in vain, but i ran into a snag: anybody going up from the Methow (twisp, winthrop, etc?). Dumbest question I've ever asked, but I'm in a pickle.

If they want this to turn into the washington open it will require two things: big purse and big jumps. $1000 and 40ft jumps don't cut it

It's a two day event but is it cool to just pre-register online and then just show up only on Sunday for the actually event?

Dam did way better in practice, and didnt do well under preasure, couldent land a 5 that i have been doing all year long.

Probably the sloppiest I've skied in years, but that doesn't change the fact that the course was SICK (save some of the top stuff, but it was all about the bottom anyway) and the weather was brilliant. Most excellent of events.

Big ups to all the competitors. Ya'll were slaying / super fun to watch on that last jump. Best event of the year right there.

who do you think won it? honestly they should just call the comp " go ahead... give us your best shot at beating out derek spong!" cause its never going to happen. The comp was fun, course was sick and the jumps had super nice take off's to very flat landings. BUT driving all together pretty much 12 hours and paying 155 up front not even adding in cost of filling my gas tank almost 3 times it would have been nice to have GOOOD fucking judges. Im not really sure how it was being judged but it looked to me like spinning to win was the base of the judges, and not on technicality of spinning both ways and hitting the jumps switch maybe once or twice? and was that stair set down rail even in the line ??? It seemed like they werent even watching peoples runs, and when they saw some craaaazy spin that they thought was cool they hooked the rider up. When you pay this much for a competition you should get good judges that know what to look out for since thats what they get paid to do right? Besides that it was a freakin awsome trip, met lots of new bredrens in WA stoked to see you guys again sooon

Course was Sick. Jumps were really dope. Some of the upper features were a little unnecessary, but sick none the less.

Props to the kids who GRABBED their tricks, there was some really sick stuff thrown down.

I think we all knew Darryl was gonna win.

i dunno man im pretty sure that everyone who was top 4 or 5 spun both ways and spun switch. and yea derek always wins but its at his home mountain and the division is called "open pro" even though its mostly made up of unsponsered local shredders.

first off, Your the kid standing on a feature in the park during the Am's which affected whether they hit it or not. have a little respect for the other riders even if you think your some hot shot who's better than them. The entire course was judged by snowboard judges so you can take up with them. I was only on the last jump and I still had to come up with a score with a snowboard judge for each rider. (who yes was all stoked on big spins and what not but i did what I could to take that down for style) Next year hopefully we can get more ski judges but it is what it is and I'll try talking to Marni about potentially having more ski judges.
