hockey make sit hard to ski

At first, like 6 years ago playing hockey helped my skiing and visa versa (they are very similar motions.) But now Im a sophmore in HS I was on varsity hockey last year and again this year But we have a 2 hour practice every day and games on the weekend until feb. It sucks cause I really want to improve on my freestyle skiing but when I'm playin hockey I only go like three times a year and take one trip out west for a week. I love hockey but I love skiing just as much or more. I feel I could get alot better if I just skied more but to do that it would mean quitin hockey which ive played for 12 years. I dont know why i'm postin this I just need get it out. anyone in the same spot as me?

i speak for myself and probably winterkid, when i say that if i stop playing hockey and just ski then i'll immediatly miss it, and i know ill never stop skiing to play hockey. so its pretty hard

 
I go to Amherst regional HS In MAss its west mass but hockey is still intense here. Lots of good tems where do you guys play?

 
thats nuts^ we have a kid my age (10th grade) that if he sticks with it he will go pro in some contact sport. freshman year he made varsity football varsity Hockey and varsity lacrosse hes like one of the best at all of those sports. Hes not real big either but it is impossible to knock him down! His name is scott Kessler. Anyway we weren't to great last year but this year we should be alot better.

 
Ah just quit man. We have 2 kids on our team that are likely playing for a good college.

i play for brookwood HS in atlanta GA, were probably one of the finer teams in the south and mid atlantic

yeah....... south and mid atlantic....... You would probably beat us I dont know but in the north east especially in mass. and even more so in eastern mass teams are soooooo good. I went to a big hockey camp in colorado and everyone there is really bad. they were supposibly the best on there HS varsity team and they were way worse then me And I am like third line on my team! play cathedral or Longmeadow they are really good. we tied longmeadow which was the high light of our season 0-0 we had 7 shots and our goalie who will probably go pro had 87 shots!

 
I quit hockey for skiing, and I regret it so much, I still get out a bit, but I sold my equipment and now I miss it like hell. I'm going to start again next year, but probably in a pick up league or sumthing

i quit hockey to ski...best decision of my life....if u have second thought about playing and when your on the ice all u think about is you could be skiing this weekend....thenget the hell out of there...just make sure ur gonna ski a ton cuz if u arnt then its not worth it

 
I also quit hockey to ski. I think I made the right decision. Think about it, hockey is a team sport, so if you make a mistake you have all the blame on you. Ski is an individual sport, you can practice it whenever you want, you don't have specific game or practice time.

 
^, ^^, ^^^ all good points I would have to get a job at my local shop to make money so I could go alot. I really love hockey but playing it 2 hours every day from the end on nov. to early march is so time consuming. I think I would get fat if i didnt play hockey last year I was 6'0' 160lbs at the end of the season I weighed 140lbs! I dont know im playin hockey this year but its next year im thinkin about there are alot of ifs. now that I have real ski equipment twins good bindings etc. I will see how good I really am I seriously have hit a total of like 25 jumps in my life and I nailed a good amount of tricks. If I can stick 7's and nine's and corks flips and more advanced I may give up hockey and try to get sponsored BUt thats a big if.

 
I just wrote an essay...but deleted it...anyways...I played hockey all my life...highschool...junior B's...Junior A's...and at this point...still play mens league (i'm 23 now, yes I feel old) ...I enjoy skiing much more than playing at this point...BUT back then...I could have given up hockey to ski...but never did...because I knew that the conesquences of giving up hockey were much greater than the benefits of skiing....when you get on the ice for a game its like nothing else...however I can't say i've ever been in a slopestyle or big air contest...so maybe that's the same kinda thing...but...if you feel skiing is going to be more beneficial...or every time you hit the ice you think of boy I wish I was skiing..then maybe it really is time to give it up...only you can decide...and whatever choice you make will be the right 1...goodluck

Hey bro stay with hockey right now. Hockey is thebest sport in the world and will improve your skiing by 200%. u have your whole life to ski. If u were meant to be a pro skier u would of already had the talent to do so. training more wont help u, u either have it or u dont. so stick with a high school sport now, u get laid more with a high school sport anyways. That is if your good.

^^^^^ the thing is I dont know how good I could be a freeskiing. I have never really done it and the day I tried my first jump I stuck a 540 on race skis. I think I will probably stay with hockey. Its fun bein of a varsity team everyones like your brothers. And next year I will probably start. I'll wait until college then i'll ski. I just wish they weren't the same season especially in the east hockey starts our resort opens in the same week and hockey ends and in the same week resort closes. I hate you canadiens you have good hockey and long ski seasons.

 
This would be why I no longer play ice... only PICH Roller hockey. It's in the summer, doesn't interfere with skiing.

ye thats probably what i'll end up doing; finishing high school playing hockey and skiing and then ill just ski in college and maybe play club or something..

just a note: uvm is sick this year at hockey(nationally ranked) and most of my family went there, so we are hyped right now.

DCman you have watched the mighty ducks a few to many times! VArsity is mad chill plus a senior on our team throughs literally every party at out school so dont say varsity is uptight. Jv is for people whi cant play well, and im sorry you and your Jv buddies dont have pubes that must be awkward around girls :(

 
i played here in ottawa for my hs and in a minor league for a long while. it still is my favourite team sport, i absolutely love playing hockey. but realized that i like skiing better, and that they totally 100% conflict with eachother, so i decided to ski more and play much, much less hockey.

and its kind of a blessing in disguise that there is an nhl lockout, now i wont stay at home or go to the corel centre to watch sens games, instead ill be tearing it up all the time on the slopes. but i cant wait for the lockout to end either...
