Hobo Spider....

I think I got bit by one last night or this morning. All day skiing today, it felt like i had a bruise on my shin, kinda like boot bang. I was like "weird, this is only my second day skiing and I haven't been landing that badly..." So I go home, with my ski socks on, get home and take them off. Examining the area, it looks like a mosquito bite. But then I notice its white in the center, and in the very very center, theres a black dot...

So I call the nurse hotline after spending a few minutes reading up about Hobo Spiders. I already have the feeling its one of these fuckers, since we've caught a few in our house this year (we ID'ed them cause we were wondering if spiders that big were poisonous - they are). After talking with the girl, I definently have something. Could be a hobo, could be something else that just got infected. Ew. She refers me to poison control, and the guy takes me a little more seriously, and gives me more advice. If it swells more (its kinda got fluid under it like a blister) then I'm going to the ER tomorrow (clinics are closed for the holiday, yay!).

Its not too too painful right now, it just aches like a bruise if I push on it. The 'ring' is freaking me out though. Apparently, some people are really allergic to hobo poison, and for them, bites swell suddenly after going down (about 24 hours after the bite) and can get to the size of a baseball. If untreated, this pops, and leaves a welt that doesnt heal for months. Fuck. Its right dead center in my shin, right against my boot. Stupid fucking spider, this could definently cut a month out of my ski season. I'll know by tomorrow I guess.

Haha, ok, so my dad wanted me to send him some pictures of what I have, so I thought I might as well just post them here. The flash of the camera kinda flushes out the white ring, but its there, you can kinda see it....

holy shit, thats nuts that it can swell up to the size of a baseball, what are you supposed to do, just try not to pop it?

Have a doctor lance it supposedly. If I'm not allergic, then I might not even get a welt... *fingers crossed*

yeah i got bit by something bad working at a summer camp in maine. At first it looking like a mosquito bite, but more of a pain then an itch, it was on my hand. A day later it got the size of your bump, and the center started turning black like dark blood and it was painful. A day or two later i got worried and went to see the health staff. A nurse took one look at it and freaked. I thought it was just a mosquito bite that got infected because i am in and out of the lake all day. They were say shit like Brown Recluse spider bite, but there is no way of knowing because i didn't see it. Long story shorter, i got a script for some antibiotics and it cleared up, i still have a scar. I doubt it was a brown recluse because i hear those things are super nasty, but it was bad. GET IT CHECKED OUT.

so i didn't know what a hobo spider was so i googled it. I thought iut was a spider without a home LOL ( that was corny) anyway this is a pic of a hobo spider bite. lets hope your shin doesn't turn into this

my dad got bitten by a hobo spider last summer. right in the shin, like yours. draw a line around the redness, and if it spreads out of the line, you'll prbly have to get it lanced. when my dad got lanced, it was sick.

thats SO disgusting

my mom got bit my a black widow when she was pregnant with my little sister

now those are little bastards

gnarcore, dey ready to rip this shit up and ball.

I'm glad the most poisonous thing around here is a black widow spider and I've never seen one before.

So I took some Ibprofin and buckled my boot over it yesterday. Thankfully, today the swelling and all has gone down, and its just a black mark the size of a pinhead. I'm having doubts if it was a Hobo or not, but who knows, I could be in that small percentage of the population that dont have the allergic reaction to the bite (and get the welt and all).

I'm pretty much convinced the photo of that dude's thumb is fake....some of the first couple days of photos look legit, but the open sore, rotten black flesh one looks totally photoshopped

for sure, at first i was like HOLY GUT FUCK but theres no way, and im sure they wouldnt use stitches or whatever the fuck that string was to hold it together.

Hobo spiders are pretty ill though. I used to hate spiders when I was little but they really intrigue me now for some reason...

the real question, is how the hell can you let your hand go like that and not get it checked out?

"hmm, my thumb just fell off, maybe ill go see the doc tomorrow..."

yo, in 5th grade, i hda a spider bite, i still dont know what kind, but i ended up in the hospital for 3 days and i got my knee drained of 8 syringes of blood, i ended up have a reaction to the posion wchihc caused my entire leg to stiffen, unable to bend my leg my parents decided it was time to take me to the hospital, i hate spiders, they suck ass, dont wait for my symptoms or anything like that, get it all taken care of cuz it sucks so bad

i fucking HATE spiders i was taking a nice hot shower one morning and was washing my hair and looked over to the tile wall a couple inches from where my face was and there was a huge fucking black spider there i screamed smashed the glass doors apart and dove out onto the floor then grabbed my moms Panten Pro V and threw it at it as hard as i could and it exploded all over the shower killing it

lol i just had a fuckin weeeird thought. what if spiders were pack animals? what if they moved in herds and shit. imagine walking down a hallway and seeing an army of spiders come after you. giggle giggle.

i havent seen one of those ever, i think we found one when i was working at bluenotes tho.. my manager didnt want me to kill it so i had to bring it outside, and i picked it up in my hand and braught it outside.. good thing i never got bit caus ei found out after that it was a brown recluse spider... i thaught i had seen a spider liek that before.. haha oops.. good thing i never got bit

pussy... spiders arent scary at all... you know whats scary tho... a woman on her period... thats whats scary... **Shudders**

That nasty picture series was on Snopes.com, I think it was designated as faked.

I live in Seattle, so we get Brown Recluses and Hobo's. Theres been an occasional black widow, but those stick mostly to eastern WA.

my mom got bit on her pinkey toe by a black widow.. and i found one of them in my tent one time... like after i woke up and shit... so i murdalized it

Spiders are shitty, I was canoeing last year, we set up tent on an island on the river like the year before, woke up to find spiders in our shoes and hiding in the velcro of the fly sheet, my buddy was scared shitless and was flat out bawling.
