Hitting a C Box?

Up at my local mountain they have a C box, curved I guess right so when you're looking down at it it looks like a normal c. I tried grinding tips up (I spin 90 counter clock) but fell off a few times. Any tips?

i dont have any advice for you, i suck at skiing, but i can say that this is probably not the right time to get help, people are all posting about the xgames, and threads go down fast.

Ha sorry about the random-ness but I got back form ski club and I was like wow I can hit hit a lot of rails and boxes but not this. some kid told me to lean back a little, would that help?

If it's a box it's just a matter of getting your speed and angle correct. If you're sliding off to the downward side (inside) you need more speed and/or approach it at a steeper angle and vice versa if you slide off the upward side (outside)

I found going in with moderate speed and aiming so that your midsole lands on the inside coping of the box really helps. Just keep practicing and get a feel for how the box pulls you through the c.

i feel ya man, C's used to dominate me. i'm gettin better i think because i'm taking more speed into it, i'd try that

As was said before, speed is probably you biggest obstacle. If you're going slow, you can start higher on the box. If you're going fast, you'll have to start lower or you'll fly out. Also, make sure you get all the way to 90. It also helps to think of dropping your lead shoulder just a bit and leaning into the curve, especially on a rail, but also on boxes. Other then that, all basics of sliding apply. (Feet should width, knees bent, hands by waist, etc.) Good luck. You'll stick it your next time out...

i dunno man, just be confident, sometimes i hit them unnaty and sometime regular and sometimes switch... switch regular on c boxes is pretty easy, and a lot of the time your momentum will carry you and you can do switch on switch up blindside two sev off. but first things first just be confident and hit it with speed, you'll get it, for c boxes you just gotta go with the flow. ps if its a banked c box then get a little extra speed because if you hit it with like none then you'll lose your momentum and fall off in the middle at its highest point... good luck dude, i know you can do it

yea man just go pretty quick and jump on as if ur grinding more on ur fron binding then right below ur foot like a regular flat box. you may be able to see it in my pic from last weekend. keep practicing and you'll get it man!

yea u prob cant tell from this pic buy you had to go really fast to get it.

when i do a c box I find it's a little easier sliding tips down, especially if it's to the right. Just really keep your weight over your leading foot and just go with the box, don't hit it as if it's a straight box, and once you are on the box, keep your eye on the end, because that will keep you on track for it. If you look at the ground you will probably fall off and If you look past the box you will likely go off the back of it. Hope this helps, good luck.

dont get too much speed or you will fly off the top, but enough so you dont fall in.

hit the box square like a regular box, not from the inside.

keep your eye on the end of the box

Alright thanks for all the help guys. I hit it higher and faster (I aimed for the top coaping) and was able to do it well However, I "went for a 540" and tore out of my bindings. So both backs are out right now hah

^ o man that sucks, anyway i guess this kind of has to do with this thread, i got switch back lips on a c box the other day (super stoked) ill post vids.. by switch back lip i mean coming in switch grinding left foot forward on a urban c box that goes to the right. ill try and get a vid of it this weekend.

ur talking about the c-box at bristol right?

i was hittin it on sunday and you need more speed than you think you do....my first hit i was going to slow and made it 3 quarters of the way then slid off cause i didn't have enuf momentum to get me going thru the whole rail basically the key to the rail is all speed

This is a good point^ some c boxes are way harder than others, like the ones at mammoth are pretty hard sometimes. because im pretty sure they just cut an s box in half

speed. just hit it and only it at first till you get it and have a feel for the speed you need to get to the end. then you'll have a basic feel for it and can hit all the features.

My mountain just got one this year too. It took me a few trys to get it but it's no doubt my favorite thing to hit at my mountain now.

A few simple tips I've discovered. As you said you grind with your right foot forward naturally. So I'll roll with that. I do to.

-Go faster than you normally would for a straight box or rail. You're gonna need extra speed to keep you pressed to the box.

-Get on low. It's kinda gonna be like stepping onto the box. When you come up to it, your tips should be towards the inside of the box.

-Pivot on pretty regularly.

-I havn't found any need to do any special leaning on the box. It all comes very naturally.

-If you're having trouble, stomp the box harder than normal. This is a trick that helped me out a ton in learning. The harder I stomped it, the easier it was to clean it.

-Be ready to pivot off. Sometimes you'll be caught by suprise depending on if you're not going fast enough or you got on a little too low and the rail will throw you off into the middle of it. Try and look for the end of the box as much as you can. Helps with rotating out as well once you progress. I've found that coming off regular is a bit more difficult than coming off switch. I find that when I come off regular with ease it's because I'm high up on the box.

Keep on trying. Don't stress it too much. They're not as intimidating as they might look. Just keep in mind that you'll need a bunch of speed. And once you hit it, if you fuck up from speed, you'll be able to gauge if you need to go a bit faster, or a bit slower. Sometimes you go to fast and shoot right off the top of it.
