Hit hard... coughing up blood

Today I tried a frontflip and landed on the top part of my back/neck. Everything feels fine, I can take deep breaths and such, but if I cough I cough up a mix of blood and mucus. I got a slight headache, but that was there before I had crashed hard. My pupils are not dilated and no, I didn't bite my tongue.

Its not like my airway is constantly filling with blood, but if I try I can definitely hack some blood out.

Because everything feels fine besides the headache, should I just chill?

you just hit your head hard which is why the headache. it wouldnt have anything to do with coughing up blood. it wouldnt do with damage to your stomach/throat, like pissing blood means you probably damaged anything to do with that system. youre fine but going to a doc. isnt ever a bad idea.

This happened to me a little while ago, after a couple of days I was fine. My guess was that I just broke an inner blood vessel or something.

Yeah, seen this before. Decapitation seems to be the only solution, it's gonna have to come off.

I'd say go to the doctor though, you're coughing up blood dude.

You most likely just ruptured some capillaries in your lungs I've done it a few times.. The first time I was coughing up a shit tone of blood scared the hell out of me but everything was all good. You'll be fine if you're still coughing up blood in the morning then go to the doctor but you should be fine.

like said above, the headache and cough are unrelated. if the headache is as you say it is than you should be fine. just watch out for sudden shortness of breath and a persistent wheezing that you cant get rid of. if it gets worse or doesnt stop than for sure go see a doctor.

dam so did link...

I was drunk and attempted a cork 7 off a 40 ft bridge in the dark. It was impossible to see the water and I ended up landing hard on my side. The next morning I was coughing up blood so I went into the ER (hungover) and the docs watched me for awhile and then released me. They tested a bunch of stuff but eventually just told me I had just broken some blood vessels in my lungs and that it would be fine. Yours sounds pretty much the same.

update:

Still coughing up blood. Extreme discomfort in left side of back. I think I ruptured my spleen. Can't breathe in without pain. Going to tell my parents that I think my spleen has ruptured and will then drive myself to the emergency room...

Merry Christmas...

If I would have seen this thread when it was originally posted I would have said go to the emergency room immediately. Coughing up blood is never good, and it's not worth risking that it might be something more serious. I definitely hope you went to the emergency room.

Update:

I went to the emergency room the day after the crash occurred.

I had some doctor lady from Texas (what she is doing in Northern Maine I have no clue) that confirmed that because I'm not vomiting that it's not too serious.

They x-rayed my chest and found nothing wrong. They told me I should just rest.

Its been 6 days and I'm STILL coughing up dark red blood about 2 times a day.

I scheduled a meeting at a clinic because emergency room visits cost a lot of $$$. Hopefully they will give me a CT scan or some shit.

My guess is a bruised rib and a popped blood vessel in the lung, but the dark red blood that I cough up every day is still scary.

I had the exact same thing happen. I landed on my lower neck/upper back in a crash and came up hacking A LOT of blood. Doc told me that landing like that is a really easy way to compress your rib cage and bruise the lungs. I ended up occasionally coughing up blood for a couple of weeks. The dark stuff is old and just clearing out of your lungs. If you continue to cough fresh/bright red blood, then you've got a more serious issue.

go see a doctor even if you do feel better, it would suck if you found out that you fucked up your back or kneck in a few years.
