i have to do a school progect so i want to do skiing so whats the history of newschool how did star the first twin tips stuff like that

in reality twin tips started with ballet skiing and the first twin tip ever made was an olin mark IV? or V. not much progression occured until mogul skiers got fed up with the regulations on their airs and started to mimic moves done by snowboarders. The first modern twin tip was the k2 poacher followed very closely by the salomon 1080 which was made popular by the new canadian air force, a group of mogul skiers that consisted of jp jf vinnie dorion shane szocs mike douglas and thomas rinfret among others. After this, ski films and contests started aiming more and more towards this type of skiing and events like the x and gravity games brought freeride skiing to a mainstream audience. the rest, as they say, is history

sort of... the first twin tips designed for park riding were the 1260s. but the poachers pre-date them by a few years. BUT there were twin tip skis back in the 70s before terrain parks, so really the poachers werent the first. however the 1260 was the first modern twin tip designed for terrain parks and half-pipes.

1260?? by line?? wow, i did not know that. like i said though, the first ever were the olin mark IV way back when weed was grass

skiing started with jesus, the cross he carried was actually a sweet iron cross, and his hat of thorns was really just a style of freestyle helmet back in the day. They steezed pretty hard in robes, cause they thought it made everything look smoother. His disciple, Peter, who was "hung upside down on a cross" when crucified was actually trying to stick a sick back iron cross over mount cyanide, but failed. Oh yeah, Jesus rode for k2.

Freeze Mag told the story of the innovators of the sport. In the mid 90's Quebec, Vail, Summit County, Cottonwoods, Tahoe and Whistler had crews that get her going and got content to that mag, which became cool by around 2000 and the open market has been driving it ever since. Make sure your story has lots of mentions of Super Force 9 Salomon's, Raichle boots, hutonys and alcohol.

Don't forget to include Kris Ostness in your project...his Dragon ski is probably the first pro-model twin ski...also he helped develop the poacher and really he was pushing skiing long before anyone thought what he was doing was cool...I mean doing 10 feet out mctwists in the Utah BC on k2 III's back in 96 was pretty amazing stuff...course skiing at that time still thought snowboading would eventually disappear..

don't be an ass. the kid is only trying to get info from nice people, like the ones who had helpful things to say above.

anyways, i think the first ski to be actually named a "twin" was the first 1080...but dont quote me on that

QUICK review of "modern" new school skiing from someone who was there first hand:

1994-1996 - Terrain parks started building step-down jumps and snowboarding was getting insane - with new shaped skis in shorter lengths we started to migrate/poach boarder only parks - Elan SCX's with turned up tails, carving switch, poach halfpipes, grabs, 180's, FUN FUIN FUN -

1995-`96 - K2 Poacher, shots of skiers boosting Q-pipes, AND prototype snowblades, Salomon approached anyone who could spin a 360 and offered a sponsorship, Line soon followed - and FINALLY we could get into the parks (leashes were required and no real skis)

1996-1997 - the short snowblades just did not work - the 1080 was born, the US free skiing open in Vail was in the works, the sport was fresh and new - those of us (like me) with snowboarding backgrounds found new love on skis

1998 - the SHIT HIT THE FAN - the scene exploded with the canadian airforce going fucking huge

that fricken aweaome, dude listen to this guy he knows what hes talkin about, and the guy that killed jesus was a jealous snowboarder cuz he knew skiers had way sicker skillz that boarders so he tried to stop the start of newschool skiing lol

the poachers WERE designed for park riding, but they were too short and soft to do anything. the first 1260s were too short too (especially considering the center mount--the tips looked like skiboards almost) but they were stiff enough to do a little more than the poachers could do.

Olin 1st made em, but I don't think many people skied switch on them back then,

Then came the Tahoe scene, and soon after the New Canadian Airforce took things in a direction that changed it all!

Someone finally gets it. At leaste I could reach one person. The rest of you are probobly going to hell for not believing in Jesus.

a lot of the above is decently correct. one thing that i don't remember being mentioned that was pretty big (for us older kids) was moseley's 360 mute in the 1998 nagano olympics, i still remember when i saw that live and freaked out. that was definatly the first mainstream "newschool" air.

and skiboards, there was def. a scene with those before we all realized that full size skis were better in every way. they slightly pre-dated full size twins i believe, but i'm not positive, if not it was simultaneous. good luck with your paper or whatever.

you can check the line website for lines history of twin tips, its on there somewhere. also research the new cainadian airforce in regaurds to skiing, mike douglas, jf cusson, jp auclaire and other guys that helped develop the 1080 with salomon. Also do a google search under newschool skiing history, i found ca bunch of links with some credible info. the info is readily available so check it out.
