If Animal Collective were to disapear forever I would not mind. I think there music sounds like trash, it sounds like people taking all the shit in their closet and banging it together. YET I hear all these people talking about how their album should be the best of 09 and how danceable it is, fuck man I couldnt dance to that shit, I rather dance to my alarm clock on buzzer mode. Then all these people claim ohhhh this music is just paving the way for new music, if music starts sounding like this I would fear for my life, people would be turning on their radios and puking from motion sickness. So hipsters I dont know what the fuck you are trying to prove with Animal Collective but the jokes over go back to listening to to whatever the hell you were listening to a year ago.

It sounds like you listened to half of Merriweather Post Pavillion. That album sucks.

Go download Sung Tongs, or any of the B-side recordings that they've EVER put out, listen to all of it, and come back to this thread.

dont mean to have hate, just had to deal with one too many kids tell me to like totally check out Animal Collective.
 
Thats what's giving animal collective a super bad name. All these kids listening to this album, and thinking its the coolest shit since the last time they listened to creed.

All the albums up to merriweather are pretty amazing.

And the people your referring to are better known as "alt-bros".

^I was literally going to say the video you posted was awful and make fun of it with this video(*see below) until I realized that the artist was the same in both videos. No joke, I had no clue.

Anyway, I was going to hate on the band in the video, sadly I can't because my video just makes me laugh :]

 
i love The Deathset. not really a hipster mating call though. more like Santogold, or Animal Collective and Vampire Weekend. no hipster would be caught dead listening to ratty Aussie punks living in Boston making fun of tight pants while wearing them.

Haha I listened to the song maybe twice when it first came out. I hadn't seen it since I posted it. I guess it's one of those things that sticks in the back of your mind.

Anyway, they're just awful.
 
aight soooo, i actually really like animal collective, most of the time, there's no way you can enjoy 100% of what anyone puts out, i liked their new album and don't consider my self in the same "scene" as the aforementioned doooosh- bagz!! i can say this because i consider myself a musician and am somewhat in the same boat as the animal collective boys in the sense of making music defferently. i'm gonna stop because i could discuss dis shii forever!!! and sergey i quote you because i found i funny that you mention santigold, i didn't like her at all, but then she put on a hella live show, soo props, but i still don't really like her stuff, anywhayss

Animal Collective is a New York City/Washington, D.C/Lisbon based music collective of avant-garde musicians from Baltimore, Maryland. Animal Collective consists of Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Deakin (Josh Dibb), and Geologist (Brian Weitz). Records released under the name Animal Collective may include contributions from any or all of these members; the lineup is not uniform. The band members met in school and started recording together in various forms of collaboration from a young age. Although the band is often classified as psych folk or noise rock, it is hard to define the Animal Collective sound as they often experiment with diverse styles and ideas from album to album. The group also runs the record label Paw Tracks on which they have released their own material as well as material by artists such as Ariel Pink, Terrestrial Tones, and The Peppermints. haha yeah Christo i know whatchu meanz. to be honest ive never actually listened to Animal Collective thoroughly enough to really appreciate their sound. so i will retract my statement until further notice. but i still loves the Deathset.

i find animal colelctive to be about the most overrated, hyped-up shit ever. i hold out hope that perhaps one day their music will "click" with me, but at this point, i really can't even make it through a "song."

smoked tons of bowls and listened to the purple bottle on feels, thats pretty much the only one I like.

Tons of people would probably say the music I listen to is crap too, Im just telling you guys my personal opinion.
 
i used to really hate them, but as i listen more and more it seems a little better, still dont really like em but it def is the kind of music where it can only be respected by listening to it with good headphones by yourself and shit.
 
Fuck all of you, Animal Collective is one of my favorite bands and has been for a very very long time. I haven't heard their latest release yet, but if it's anything like anything they've made before then I'm sure it's great. They are one of the most innovative bands not only with their style but the beats they use and how they make their music. Geologist and Panda Bear are two of the greatest artists of our generation.

I'm sure the music you listen to sucks balls and doesn't challenge you as a listener. All of feels and sung tongs and anything by them is great to smoke to.
 
Anybody who listens to any of Animal Collective's albums and says that it was shit is very musically immature. Animal Collective is at the forefront of this generation's musical identity. They are working under the radar, influencing all of the "artists" you guys listen to. To appreciate Collective you really do have to open up your mind and listen to the songs without comparing them to any other songs, because no other songs compare. Animal Collective is one of the hardest working bands in the industry at this point in time. Merriweather Post Pavillion was a tad sub-par, I agree. But, My Girls is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Go ahead and call me a fucking hipster or whatever because, frankly, I'm not a hipster. I wear regular pants, I don't shop at thrift stores for ironic t-shirts, I shower every day, and I couldn't give a shit if my hair looks messy. So there's that.
 
in your damn opinion. There beats are whack theres no elements of music even present in any of them, no harmony, almost no timbre its basically just organized noise.

and yeah Phish is a terrible band to smoke to, tottally suckz ballz lolz
 
ok, so if this tecno junk in our generations mucial identity then we sould all cut off our heads, It is not really music, they take computers and the computers make the noises, not that hard. Bands like Blink-182, nirvana, and eminem are our mucical idenity. It does not matter how hard they work, they still suck.

Im not going to call you a hipster cause that is just too mean, I will say listen to some bands tht play instruments, or just go listen to "Smells Like Teen Sprit" that is my generations mucical idenity.

And you should shop at thrift stores cause thay are cheep, or tj max is also awsome cause it cheep
 
I felt the same way when I first started listening to them, then they grew on me. I like Animal Collective, but hate a lot of teh people that listen to it and then think they're cool, its just stupid to think you are cool because you listen to a certain musical artist/band.

and i have a few counter-arguments.
-They are NOT under the radar, theyre pretty damn mainstream.
-Hardest working? thats a pretty hard point to prove sir, i would like to say pegasus dream works harder but thats subjective.
just because you enjoy them doesnt mean they are the only band out there that's doing something. and i wouldnt consider electronic music the "musical identity" of the generation. Which is another hard point to prove, it's arguable that hendrix was the voice of the 60's, but you could say the same for the beatles,it's apples and oranges friend.
 
electronic in the sense that they change the original samples of actual instruments they play. They were pretty much an acoustic group up until strawberry jam.

-They for sure aren't mainstream. As far as "indie" goes, they are. But if you asked 95% of America who Animal Collective is, they'd think it was a cult or something.

-I believe that they are the hardest working band in the business. That's obviously objective. I was just pulling my opinion from the fact that every member listens to their songs on repeat in their house, car, ipod, etc so that they can find flaws in it and fix it.

-Please do NOT ever call Animal Collective electronic music. They are soooo much better than all of that computer-generated shit.

 
all i have to say is that no matter how awful my day isanimal collective puts me into a phenomenal mood...it's hard/weird to explain.
