Well, my fine city of Ottawa, has been overrun by hippies, beatnicks, protesters.

Here is a clip of only hours ago...Ottawa Citizen.

Wow, i bet they got their point across. Breaking windows and throwing paintbombs is going to help out those whom are subjected to Capitalist punishment in other countries.

I see them making more problems.

I have YET to see any of these Hippie come up with a solution to what they are 'fighting for'

You're talking about protestors as if they're animals that need to be caged.

The human race is developped by confrontation and conflict. The world needs protestors. The human race needs protestors. I'm not condoling violence by any means, but if the world sat in silence while our leaders told us what's up, we would not progress; we would be slaves to our masters.

I know it's annoying because there is so much violence in protesting, but keep in mind that the only thing covered in the media is the violence. There are a lot of protests carried out in peace that we never hear about. I'm not talking about peaceful marches, I'm talking about people writing letters, making phone calls, having conferences. Don't look down on protesting because of a couple of idiots who feel the need for negative publicity.

Well, I don't believe we do 'need' protesters. And there is more to human development than conflicts and arguements.

Sure you can see others point of views, so yourself won't be so ignorant. Will i change my mind, maybe, maybe not. But again, look at who protesting and telling you THEIR points of views. I'm sure the hard-cores are going to ignore anything you say because its not what their 'fighting' for. Therefore nothing gets accomplished.

oh and Matt, who'd you vote for? Why did you choose that person to become Prime Minister?

This is the person whom you agreed with most. The person you want to repreasent you in Canada and the world.

If your going to protest, get off the street. Get out of my way, stopping the flow of traffic, or the flow of a city is just going to piss people off. That isn't positive publicity you need.

yeah, i live in canmore and its pretty crazy right now, probably 1 in 10 cars is a cop car, theres hundreds of guys in army outfits walking the streets (yesterday i would say it was 1 in 2 or 3 people downtown), and theres huge army tanks and trucks and shit driving around

 
these protestors are just a bunch of hippies that have no idea how the world works, they expect everything to be perfect and every one to have money, maybe if they got off their asses and got a job. Your not going to change the world by walking through the streets with signs and making noise. get an education and become a polition and try to fix things that way. But i must say im proud how the police is handling the situation and not making the protestors mad. There handling it so well even though i wouldn't mind if they went out and kicked some hippie ass

Obviously there's more to human development than conflicts and arguments. Notice how I didn't say 'the only thing that develops us is conflicts and arguments'. That being said, confrontation, conflicts, arguments are NEEDED.

Seeing other people's points of views is not meant so that you can change your mind. You don't have to agree with them, but you should listen. No bad can come of hearing other's opinions, expanding your mind, basing judgements on more experiences. Why not listen?

'hard-cores' aren't going to ignore you if you ask them about what they're saying and have a discussion. Of course if you say 'you're an asshole, go get a job!' they aren't going to listen. Walk up to a protestor, ask them about what they're saying, have a respectful discussion. I don't see what's so bad with this?

What does who I voted for have to do with whether protesting is a good thing? Completely irrelavent.

powder99: Why are hippies so bad? What makes you think they don't have jobs? Why don't they know how the world works? How do you know they don't have an education? Do you feel that you have a greater education because you don't protest? I don't get it.

Just because some protestors feel the need for violence, it doesn't mean that there should be no protesting. Sure some people are fighting for things they may not know much about.. maybe some people are just doing it to be 'cool'.. fighting for their rights like the 'good old days'... whatever: protestors are needed. Confrontation is needed. Discussion is needed. Take it in stride, expand your mind: listen.

Harvey have you seen these hippies protesting? there rolling around in the mud naked crawling all over the place hair as hell, a bunch of women that have hairy legs than i have is pretty nasty, and probably havent washed in a couple years that doesn't seem like a group of educated people, can you imagine if the world decided to follow there views? the world being run by a bunch hairy dirty people wanting everyone to live in peace? its communinsm thats pretty much what they want, everyone to be paid equally, got no job? no problem you can be paid as much as a doctor. k, well , harvey has a point.. we need conflicts in life, otherwise it would be boring and large poitical figures would have complete control over their population.. i just think that the prostestors are taking the exact wrong approach to this. Did they speak once about the protestors in the G8 summit? No.. so that means these hippies need to take more drastic actions. like 'oh no, your on my street and throwing golf balls, ok, ill give a trillion dollars to world hunger'.. they need to like take hostages of somthing (not that i support it)

oh ya, i was watchin TV and one of the protestors was on and she had a fukin bear.. like a full blown beard and a small stach. its was funny cause she was talking about how we shouldnt judge protestors by there appearance.

Ya, you think the protesters had a problem with police before, just wait after that idea goes thru.

Oh, but not only police, the Army will be there too. I garentee hostages taken, you'll have SWAT, TRU, JTF-2 (Canada) members kickin down the door and snipers on the roofs. You don't have to give money to dead people.

I think the people who are vandalising shit are big posers. I think that protesting capitalism is pretty fucking pointless. I mean I don't like it but look at what it controls- everything from our instituionalized religions to our school systems. If you protest thats and you think your helping out good for you, I respect that. But you are being very misrepresented by the media and you need to recognize. You are not going to abolish capitalism by protesting, its going to have to come about when the 85% comes to it's census, when capitalism becomes even more controlled thatn it already is. I think the root of the problem is education. Think about your history class. When you study anything left of centre which challenges capitalism you study the failures, the Russia's the China's not the succesful nations like Sweden. I think that its great your trying to spread knowledge but you need to find a better way.

Well retard, if you had good social skills you would have read the end of my post which talked about sweden as a succseful leftist country. Now I know you a fucking 85er and your probably American so I geuss that isn't self evident to you. See Sweden is what you would call a social democracy which basically means that capitalism is controlled and there are not huge class gaps.

First off i would like to poing out that those are not hippies. Hippies beleave in noviolence and peace and that is not true hippies that is doing the violence. This world always will need protesters that what makes us better then the rest of the world. think of thiis dumping tea into the boston harbor was illegal but somebody needed to make a stand. thats what makes our nation greater is that we have the right to protest and state our thoughts.
