It's an influence, and its an image. All of our images, like it or not have been adopted from out society, mainly snowboard(which gets their images from skate and a little surf). Like it or not, its the way it is?

My question, continuing a discussion from SKEEZE, why do we have to copy an image? Why do we have to be the rockstar, the thug, punk, goth, whatever, can't we just have a ski style, a freeski style? I think we can, in time.

But about hating on the hip hop style, do you mean you hate the music, the baggy clothes, or the kids acting like bangers and being way to thugged out.

If its the music, thats your opinion, hate it or not, do what you want, I like it. If its the baggy clothes, yah it can get a little over the top, but an XL pant is way more comfortable than a tight fitting one. That again, personal preference. And as for the behaviors and thugness, that's what I hate, these fake wanna be thugs really coming from white, middle America, with an incredible talent for skiing.

dude if every skier didnt have a an image-style like hip hop or punk that would be lame. I think what makes it fun is when you have all these different images, it just gives everything a different feel and mood... XXL jacket and pants is pretty ridicoulus but if someone wearing baggy clothing can throw down then double props to him.

well this is a silly thread, however:

it's my opinion that part of what makes skiing cool is that it's an influenced sport. everyone brings different influences into their skiing, whether it be skiing style or the clothes a person wears. i don't see skiers as ever just having "skiing" style, simply because popular culture has an effect on everything. sure there is a "skater" style projected by the mass media, but even within skating you still see punk skaters and hip hop skaters. it's simply a function of the influence that popular culture has and will continue to have on the way we dress, regardless of what sports we participate in.

my level of radness... it just can't... be quantified.
 
skiing is one of the oldest sports in the world, and most likely the first ever lifestyle sport (except maybe golf) for there not to be "skiing style" would be kind of unlikely.

exactly, i wear my ski clothes baggy because i fell that its easier to move around in them that way. but, i do hate when kids are in jeans 5 sizes too big and shirts down to their knees that just pisses me off.

 
I find it really stupid/annoying when kids on here (who suck really bad) say "oh no man, I need my 2XL cuz XL isn't baggy enough" XL is really baggy let alone 2XL. You guys are so fucking dumb if you think that L or even a M is "tight" fitting pant. I am 5'8 140 and I have M pants and they are plenty baggy enough and trust me I hate tight pants. Stop looking like fools and trying to be like everyone else by getting XL or 2XL

just a thought for whoever says that you should be yourself and have your own style: isn't it obvious that when someone is different, be it on the hill or on NS that they are singled out and mocked by the larger groups? let's pretend that there is a goth skier who wears his ski clothing black and doesn't talk much, but still skis for the love of it. Now both the hiphop kids and the punks are going to single him out and call him names. why? because he doesn't belong in either category. Pratice what you preach and accept people for who they are.

Labeling yourself also closes your mind, it puts you in a mindframe of " I want to only hang out with other kids who are "ska" " I know a bunch of kids who are cool and that if I labeled myself, would be a part of it, you need to accept stuff and people for who they are, not what fucking "label" you and they belong to.
