Highest Paid Skiers in the Industry

Recently, I have been wondering who is the highest paid athlete in the skiing world. I really Have no idea how to ballpark an estimate, nor do I have any point of reference.

Also, I am curious as to how the salary might be broken down. Certain percentages going toward travel stipends, contest winning bonuses, etc.
 
Are we talking highest paid simply from ski related things or what? If we are just talking highest paid skier, Jon Olsson is easily the highest paid overall with ease.

Lindsey Vohn and Ted Ligety make bank. Like a million a year bank. Pretty sure Gus makes a million a year as well.

I would say Bode in his prime was the highest paid skier ever.

Ski Racers make a lot more than park guys. Its simple. Look at Nascar and Formula one and the difference in drivers. Nascar drivers are shit compared to Formula one, and then their sponsors. Wonderbread is a Nascar sponsor while Rolex Sponsors Formula one; I think you can catch the drift.

As far as park guys Jon Olson is definitely top dog. For kid saying hes a blogger shut the Fuck up. The man invented most modern park tricks. I would say after the olympics Josh is up their and rest of the guys on the podium. Wallisch also makes a pretty penny, Line had to put up some good money to get him from Scott. Nevermind the money from North face and when he was winning Golds at X Games.

there was a time where jon olsson was one of the best, that time has passed. now he is just some guy who makes videos to show the world how much money he has.

I am.

All my contract money is retainer and I get it once a month during the season. I don't fuck around with travel budget and repayment type things. Then I get paid per post on IG and also run my own brands to supplement income. If you wanna get paid to ski, pay yourself.

He definitely does. He is a huge hero in France. Jon and Henrik Windstedt are big heroes in Sweden. Both of those guys live in Monte Carlo for tax purposes. I was actually just in Monte Carlo and it is sick. If you can live there in the summer and travel all winter that is quite a life.

From what I have heard Bode was easily making 7 figures when he was racing. My guess is that he was the highest paid when he was doing this. He was a bigger hero in Europe than he was in the U.S.
 
Bode Miller in his prime made a very large amount of money. In the multiple millions per year. Freeskiers salarys dwarf that of racers due to the European influence.

No this is incorrect. While we do offer competitions incentives to some of our athletes, this is not the calculation we use!

Top 7 most highly paid Freeskiers in my opinion are.

1) Candide (his quicksilver contract would be easily 500k euros per Year with faction being a more incentive deal meaning how many skis he sells = his pay that's why he has 3 promodel skis)

2) Gus (being gay and being an all American help his cause majorly)

3) Twall (his north face deal would be huge)

4) Henrik

5) tanner ( I know that OAKLEY are still paying him quite well.. And should be paying him more cause his promodel goggle sold more units than any other OAKLEY Google)

6) I think jossi wells is doing pretty good

7) Sammy Carlson

This list 5 years ago was more stacked but it seems like action sports have less money in it now than say 2012.. Maybe just my opinion.

Jon still makes lots of cash but he doesn't really ski anymore .. Much to my disapointment.
 
I´d say Simon Dumont, but I don´t know. I like Jon olsson and think its cool what he is doing now with the daily vlogging and stuff but how exactly is he one of the "richest" skiiers? I mean he is nowhere near Tom W. and Bobby Brown, Simon and Sammy Carlson. Just wondering.

Surprised to see no one mentioned torin, with his deals with companies like target poptart and not to mention what he gets from armada, curious to see if anyone knows his numbers for sure
 
I can't believe no one has said Bobby Brown.

He's one of only a handful that Salomon kept, he's Mr Red Bull, has is own movie coming out which they look like they've put together. Heaps of Winter X success, all-American Jock image (i.e. so fucking Red Bull). GoPro love him too, was in a Karma drone promo from way back before they delayed it.

He's a contest and content machine, always previously had Poorboyz and MSP parts, so massive exposure for whoever sponsors him.

What do you mean? You're actually saying that you think Tom W, Bobby, Simon and Sammy make/have made more than Jon does? Normal common sense would tell you how untrue this is
 
Only one person has said Sean Petit, and I'd assume he's pretty far up the bank scale just because of his mansion in whistler, which wouldn't be cheep.

He's not worth 30m but Jon has made a ton of money skiing, far more than most, possibly any, of the people you mention. He is an absolute mega-star in Sweden, which is a country without many big time athletes. Jon is one of very few skiers that was legitimately making 7 figures.

Jon lives in Monte Carlo, where are normal 2 bedroom apartment is 2m euros, for tax purposes. Most people who have followed freeskiing for the last 15 years know that Jon absolutely makes a killing. I'm curious as to why you don't think he makes much? Everyone else seems to know about it. I don't know if he bought his lambo or if it was a sponsoring situation but regardless he has made a killing.
 
What I meant was, talent and skill wise, Tom, Bobby and the others are far better than Jon. I have nothing against Jon, I actually like him a lot. I was not saying that they actually make more than Jon. I was just wondering how Jon is this famous and allegedly fuck rich. Now I know that Jon is a businessman and that he co operates with his sponsors and other companies and that is probably how he is making that stellar cash.

Talentwise!!! None of those guys have done near what Jon has done. Jon has won big mountain contests, competed in World Cup events, and won x-games medals. Jon is a much better skier than Tom or Bobby unless the only thing you think that counts is park skiing and urban skiing. When Tom W. or Bobby Brown wins a big mountain contest, as Jon has done, then let me know. Jon is astronomically more talented than those two as far as all-around skiing goes. In fact, Jon has stated that he would trade his x-games medals for a world cup win because he knows how hard it is to win a world cup race, something he has never done. Jon might not have won a world cup race but he can at least step up to the plate, Tom and Bobby can't. If you think those guys could quit park skiing and jump into a world cup race, the way Jon did, you are dead wrong.

Scott Gaffney called Jon one of the best all-around skiers on the planet. Bobby and Tom W. don't get that kind of praise from Gaffney. If you think Bobby and Tom W. are more talented than Jon on skis you need to realize that skiing is more than park and urban. Jon is much more talented than either of those two guys. Like I said when one of those guys wins a big mountain contest or competes in a world cup race let me know.

Even if we just stick to the x-games Jon has won medals in more different disciplines than those two have.

I'm not trying to be a dick here but how old are you? I can't see you being in your 20's and thinking this unless you are very new to the skiing scene. Jon Olsson is a much more talented all-around skier than Bobby Brown or Tom W. He has become what he is because of his talent and because he is from Sweden. If you want to argue that he is overpaid compared to Tanner Hall you might have a point, Tanner might (might) be a better all-around skier than Jon. But Bobby Brown and Tom Wallisch? Those guys are not on Jon's level as an all-around skier.

That's why Jon lives in Monaco and drives 1000hp Audi's. I imagine he probably came from some money to start with, was an awesome skier at the right time, got the right sponsors (i.e. - Red Bull, Oakley, Head) and then made smart investments with his money.

While there is no doubt Jon lives an awesome life and has a ton of fun, I don't think there is any doubt he he works crazy hard.

For example, NS got all crazy about YNIQ and how $400 goggles are stupid, but if you look at the high end Euro ski market, I'm sure it was an awesome move. Then he sold it and moved on to the next project. I'm sure he'll do the same thing with Douchebags.
