High School Seniors..UVM?

Congrats dude!

I got into St. Mikes with 38k a year which is rad, but I don't really like anything about the school...

Also Sugarbush is the shit! Park is so much fun.
 
hey! some people don't like skiing pow, it should be their choice.

But really, anyone stupid enough to go out of state and go to the EC, AND claims skiing is everything, is not deserving to go west.
 
Ignorant post alert. The only "reputable" state school that I can think of right now that offers a faster time getting to the mountains than UVM is UofU. CU Boulder is almost double the time to get to anything other than Eldora. Jay, MRG, Stowe, Sugarbush, Smuggs, and Bolton are all within an hour of the UVM campus. That means you can get out of class at 12, get to any of those mountains by 1, and ski from 1-4. There is little to no traffic, the drive is quite easy, and it is almost expected that when a storm comes students will miss class.
 
id rather end up with a decent degree at MSU and ski Bridger, or UW and ski Stevens or Crystal. this is crystal today:

Tell me how UVM/Bolton/Stowe is so much better.

Like I said, worth it if you ski sometimes and want to go to a good school, or if you are instate, not worth it if you are a real skier.

First, deebieskeebies was being sarcastic.

Second, I came to UVM because it has a good mechanical engineering program, is much closer to my house in Maine (I didn't want to go further than driving distance), is very close to the some of the best skiing on the east, was granted a good amount of money, and has a really cool vibe without being too crazy (like CU Boulder for example).

Third, keep your big ego out west. Nobody gives two shits. Why does it bother you that people ski the east and (god forbid) enjoy it?
 
Three things:

1. Best skiing is subjective. Some people like jumps, some people like powder, some people like urban, etc. You get the point. So be it.

2. If the point of going to college is to get a degree from the best school possible, why would you sacrifice that option to get a few more days of good skiing a year? Skiing is not going away THAT fast. Post-college skiing is still possible. Choose that option and you arent wasting your money/your parents money for college and you still ski. *GASP*

3. You are automatically assuming that everyone likes the schools out west and everything they have to offer. What about the time of the year when there is no snow? Or if you have an injury? Skiing may make a lot of things worth it, but what happens when it gets taken away? Or you burn out? What then?

2. I don't think that is the point of college, to me its more about going to a good school, and skiing the most pow possible.

Oh and UW is ranked 52 by US news, while UVM is at 82. So even if that was the reason, you still lose by going to UVM.

3. Pretty much all schools in the west offer other great outdoor activites outside of LA. Summer skiing is usually close enough if you live in Montana, Washington, or Oregon, then you have the best mountain biking, fly fishing, climbing, hiking, hunting, rafting/kayaking, along with your typical college intramural sports.

So yeah, any real skier who goes out of state isn't going to be going to UVM unless they are a complete idiot, or are too scared to be a flight away from home. I guess east coasters are just more used to living in a smaller, shittier world.
 
1. Again, subjective. I have talked to numerous people in my life who do not enjoy powder for one reason or another.

2. The point of going to college is to learn both academic and social skills. You chose a school that you believe best fits you. There is no one school that everyone would love to go to. Another thing, US News College rankings are more or less a joke. Besides, everyone knows graduate school is what really matters. Nice try though.

3. Again, you are basing your thoughts off of your personal beliefs. Everyone is different.

You evidently cannot comprehend that people have different values and those values drive them to different schools. I am so happy you love where you are, but I can guarantee you that there are people at UW who love skiing and are not as happy as some people at UVM. Simple enough.

Your argument is flawed because of your shortsightedness on the issue. You are unable to differentiate your personal values from those of others and as such are using a very subjective criteria to try to prove to us that you made the right choice. We get that, but that does not mean others will follow the same path.

 
Well, for on campus if you are looking into the business school go to Kalkin, if you are looking at environmental sciences go to the Rubenstein Building, Engineering go to Votey, and then the rest are crap shoots. You may or may not have classes in certain buildings throughout your entire time here. I still have not set foot in certain buildings.

Downtown wise, just walk Church Street. All you need to do. Skirack is down Main Street, and Alpine Shop is up in South Burlington. Check out OGE as well.

If you are here for two days and have skis and free time, check out the resorts obviously.
 
oh sorry you're right, because a 7 hour drive or so for someone from PA is about the same as going to school out west and needing to buy a plane ticket to come home.

Ah OK then. Look at those buildings, check out the gym if you like to lift (prepare to be underwhelmed), Church Street is a must, and then if you have time, check out the town of Stowe. It is a pretty nifty place, good pizza at Piecasso, and there are some sweet stops on the way there (Ben and Jerry Factory, Cabot, Cider Mill)
 
hahahahahahha oh god. So you can handle a 7 hour drive, but a 7 hour plane trip is too much to handle? How fucking often do you need to come home, once every month? Jesus, stop being a little bitch.

If you are a skier, and identify yourself that way, or even an adult, you should be able to be a plane ride away from home. Its part of life. But yeah, if skiing shit snow and being close to home means that much to you, UVM is probably a perfect fit.
 
At least you can finally admit people have different values than you. A step forward in the right direction! It may be a baby-step but its something!
 
Make sure to stop by the UVMSSC Club Haus on the 1st floor of the Davis Center (the student center) to ask any questions about skiing at UVM and to check out the gear!
 
you can't be serious with this comment, let me get this right, you would rather not ski at all than ski on the east.if I ever rode the chair with you I would push you off and then urinate on your broken body bellow. In fact I think everyone in this thread has lost brain cells trying to argue with you, i'm pretty sure a drunk monkey could make more coherent arguments than you could. also you can't even super fed, are you some kind of pussy? my 7 year old little brother can do that in his sleep. I also heard from a reputable source that you blow goats on a regular basis
 
They're mountain goats high in the Rockies where I get to tour to ski awesome steep lines.

Id rather be able to skin 5 miles than super fed. But continue, tell me how slush and rails are better than pow.
