High school seniors and college students

All are very good schools. What was the point of this thread? Do you want to know about them, or do you want to know who goes there?

colgate

hamilton

bates

bowdoin

middlebury

i looked at all of these. hated bowdoin when i went though. the rest i liked, but didnt want to be in NY. middlebury and colby were both high up on my list, but i ended up going ED to colby. i love it up here. if you have any questions about the schools PM me. im a freshman at colby btw.

and if your considering bates, colby is essentially the same, but IMO, has a nicer/greener campus. of course, i am biased because i go to colby but i would visit every school you consider seriously and then choose from there.

yeah i looked at bowdoin and bates and all i thought was i would get bored there. i almost went to middlebury but picked uvm (haha) and am so glad... burlington is wayyyy cooler than a bunch of rich kids who study their whole lives away.

you would fit in at skidmore if, you like to protest about dumb shit, but also love your new 08 audi/bmw.

i live 5 mins from skidmore, its really just an artsyfartsy rich kid college. but the rest of em all all really good colleges, skidmores fairly hard to get into i believe. and allw ill offer good educationZ

My brother actually goes to Skidmore (he's a sophomore there currently). He loves it and I've been there a bunch of times and it seems like a really great school. AMAZING FOOD. Rated one of the best college cafeterias in the country.

agree with the other guy, you dont know shit. I don't go to middlebury, but thats a stupid generalization to make

its not that much of a generalization. i was going to go there so i stayed there for a weekend and didnt go out at all.... had no fun. okay so thats one weekend. went there a second weekend with someone else to visit their friend.... didnt go out.... had no fun.

think what you wish but dont speak until youve experienced.

ive been there a few times, once when i was in high school and visiting for a track visit, and now i have a bunch of friends that go there, and its true there aren't huge parties, but the kids definitely don't study all the time and they aren't all rich. In all honestly, UVM probably has more rich kids, especially out of state students. Midd has a better financial aid program and has a ton of international students, where as out of state kids at UVM generally don't have much financial aid so they tend to be richer. UVM out of state is right around 40,000 a year and midd is 50,000, so they aren't all that different

^ colby is in waterville, maine.

anyway, i go to middlebury and i love it. it's in bumblef*ck vermont, but it doesn't sound like you're looking for a big city. the social scene is mainly dorm parties and social houses (like frats without the greek) so i can see why some people might not find the "fun" party on a given weekend. i have a lot of fun. burlington is a cool place too, it's about 45 minutes away and we go there for concerts and nightlife when the great outdoors become a bit too much to bear. i've got nothing but love for uvm, but for the record i'm not rich and i don't work all the time. a fair bit though.

i'm studying abroad in valparaíso, chile right now. we got some great skiing in at portillo and el colorado down here. if you're interested in study abroad, middlebury has some of the best programs among the schools you listed.

skiing-wise, the snow bowl is a college owned resort 25 minutes from school with free buses running on the hour. it's not big, but it makes skiing for a couple hours between classes very doable. some exciting glades, too. sugarbush is 45 minutes, along with mad river glen. i also ski stowe a lot, which is a little over an hour away. backcountry in the adirondacks is very popular, as is tuckerman's.

as far as the other schools you're looking at, i almost went to bowdoin (very similar) but the skiing isn't nearly as good. in fact, i chose middlebury largely because of the skiing. i'm from the west coast so i'm not familiar with the new york schools, except colgate, which i hear is a bit preppy, but fun.

any other questions about midd?

DO NOT go to skidmore unless you like the hippy/alternative/photography/artsy croud

no joke.

i go to union about 30 min down the highway. WAY LEGIT a fucking good time. look into it

ill be the first to admit that schenectady sucks. its way ghetto and theres really nothing to do in town. Having been to skidmore before and stayed over a couple of nights, i know that saratoga is tits.

however, having seen both party scenes i can say this:

Union nightlife is better and much more fun. the only thing it lacks is a bar scene, which saratoga offers to skidmore. thats it

all im suggesting to this kid is that he really consider the stereotypical student who goes to skidmore. if hes alternative and artsy then thats cool, he should look into it. I know there are alot of athletes at skirdmore, those were the kids i hung out with, but the division between athletes and other students is so vast that its unappealing to many

and for the record, a skimore education and a union education are both very good

I currently go to Skidmore and i will tell you that it is bomb. Good food, good nug, good music, good people. Always something to do off and on campus. The dorms are all good, and the upperclassmen housing is even better.

mmmhm. agree to disagree? haha or something of the sort. The capital region has quite a number of good schools, Union and Skids being two of them.
