High school early release

im thinking of doing early release where i would get out of school three days a week at like 11:00 but people say it brings down your grade point average if your a freshman should i go for it?

do it.

for most of the time i was in high school i went to class in the morning and worked in the afternoon. i still passed with pretty good grades. just pay attention in class, do your homework and you should be fine.

how about you find out for sure whether or not it brings down your gpa and then decide for yourself instead of asking ns, dumbass

Do it for 1 day every week, then you get a basic 3 day weekend. You can do more days on some weeks and none on others. Just do it by work

I'd wait until senior year until you do that so you already a majority of the credits. Or just do all-online and ski every day.

Finish your credits mostly freshman and sophomore year and then ski everyday junior and senior year. It would also help if you took classes over the summer or online

This too. Honestly, Its a lot more work than people make it out to be. You really have to make sure you're on top of your online classes and such. Well worth it, though.

You're transcript will not be impressive to colleges. Because you obviously could've pushed yourself and taken more classes but you didn't. Your gpa is your grade point average, so if you aren't taking a class you aren't getting a grade, so there's no effect.

Totally depends what courses he takes. I don't think a college would care if he is released at 11 if the courses he is taking are academically challenging, college and employers are starting to value people that can study, work and do extra curricular activities (like skiing), as long as you have something to show for it I don't think it devalues your transcript.

Asking people is finding out if it will change his GPA is finding out... There is no way he could know simply reading something at school. Asking people who value a lifestyle like he does is pretty smart.

Yeah I meant to say as impressive. I know a ton of people that did late start early release and still got into schools, just on its own its not preferred

if you can keep your grades up, assuming you don't have to dig yourself out of a hole right now, then totally do it. Less time in class=more time on the hill

My friend gets out of school at 12:00 everyday (he gets in 5 periods a day) and then takes an online class. It's working out great for him.

So an online class is a good option. There have some pretty interesting stuff you can take and it's good for college.

If you do end up doing the half day thing just still get your shit done bottom line

I mean if your fulffilling your course requirements and the rest of the time would be study halls you should do it.

If you value your education dont do it, Im kind of surprised so many people say go for it. HS does matter, especially if you have plans for college . Take it senior year, you'll be able to drive and actually do stuff.

I hate this. People act like a good GPA is the golden ticket to college. As long as your not pulling straight Ds and your decent at testing you'll be able to get into a decent college.

Yea you can get into college, but maybe not the one that you want. GPA definitely helps getting into college. more importantly though, what you learn in hs will make college easier.

Yeah I feel. Just grew up with a bunch of kids who seemed to spend a good amount of their time freaking out and bitching about good grades and GPAs..theres more to life.

If this guy's level of intelligence is in any way indicative of your own, you do not have what it takes to do well in a program like this. Just put in the hours at school and stop looking for an easy way out. These "early out" programs are usually MORE work, despite what it may look like.

the reality is, if you do it, your GPA probably will fall because you'll have too much free time on your hands and staying focused on doing well in school will become harder.

I understand that being...what 15 or 16 right now that probably sounds fucking awesome to have tons of free time and yada yada, but your time will be better spent in school, thus increasing your chances of doing well. I was able to get 2 full classes worth of college credit knocked out my senior year with AP stuff, and it made my life way easier when I needed it in college a couple years later.

GPA isn't a golden ticket to college, but it's pretty critical if you want to CHOOSE where you go to college vs. going wherever will take you. And furthermore, if you get in the habit or working hard now and doing well academically, you'll most likely maintain that habit in college - which will benefit you for the rest of your life.

I fully realize that I sound old as fuck writing this stuff, and at 26 years old, I probably am compared to most of you guys. I'll tell you what though, what I'm saying is the truth. At the end of the day it's your choice of course, but really think it through, try and see the big picture instead of the little picture where 3 extra hours of free time a day seems like the best thing ever. Just my .02

tl;dr ... hope it helps somebody

Don't do it now. wait till senior year. You should have plenty of time after school as it is. I don't think I ever spent more than 3 hours a week doing work outside of school. Make good use of study halls and pay attention in class.

It was mandatory for me through elementary-high school..? only on thursdays but we got out like an hour and a half early. I thought it was normal

Wait, you guys decide to get out early if you want. I didnt know that kind of thing happened. Just go to school, you cant even drive yet so you're just going to be sitting at home.

I think this a horrible idea... So like okay you get out early at 11, so what? Are you going to drive to the mountain, no prob because you can't drive yet (I think?). You gonna hangout with your friends? Oh no they are still in class. Like what do you expect to get out of this program, what is your goal? Do you plan on working a crazy amount? Like getting out early with nothing to do is going to be boring as fuck.

Not to mention high school is the biggest joke ever. My biggest regret now at 23 was not paying more attention in high school and actually learning some fundamental subjects like chemistry/physics as they would of made college a bit easier. Just be a normal student, life will be pretty damn easy.I did that early shit when I was a senior, actually had a car, but even then it was at like 2 or 12, 11 is crazy early.

he made it sound like participating in the program automatically means your gpa won't be as high. But i guess it's hard to tell since he's a dumbass 14 year old
