Hidden Gems of the NE

Hey, have any suggestions on mountains with some hidden backcountry dreamlands? I was recently up at Wildcat, and checked out the Thompson Brook backcountry, which was amazing, as well as a couple other runs in that area. If you got any cool ones, I'd be willing to tell you some of my favorites. Thanks.

Off the Chin of Stowe, there is some good back country as well as a few other spots throughout the mountain, those are local secrets though.

go to mad river glen and ski down paradise. I was there last year and that place is crazy

The shit hasnt even begun to hit the fan

Theres this real Hole-In-The-Wall place in Central Connecticut, called Mount Southington. There's a lot of awesome pow lines and chutes off the backside that no one ever goes to. Its definitely worth it, you should check it out. Actually no I was just kidding, but the Open Woods Policy at Jay Peak makes for some good stuff, take the tram and hike up the ridge, traversing along the top until you see a fairly wide opening. Drop in and after a nice snow its heaven, theres some drops, and trees, its awesome terrain. Also going off the backside has some awesome areas too, but it can be very risky and difficult to meet back up with the road.

****PULP FICTION****

Vincent: And you know what they call a... a... a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in Paris?

Jules: They don't call it a Quarter Pounder with cheese?

Vincent: No man, they got the metric system. They wouldn't know what the fuck a Quarter Pounder is.

Jules: Then what do they call it?

Vincent: They call it a 'Royale' with cheese.

Jules: A 'Royale' with cheese! What do they call a Big Mac?

Vincent: A Big Mac's a Big Mac, but they call it 'le Big-Mac'.

Jules: 'Le Big-Mac'! Ha ha ha ha! What do they call a Whopper?

Vincent: I dunno, I didn't go into Burger King.

At sugarbush there is an area of the heaven's gate (is that the name?) lift. You traverse through the woods and come out under the slidebrook express quad. If you keep going over, there is glade skiing that lasts a solid 30 minutes straight, and it is nice. If you are a quick skier, this is the place to go. It says have a guide with you, but you can just follow the dots on the trees and the skied off lines. I do it with a guy I know up there who has been at that place forever. You come out at the street running from sugarbush to mount ellen, right in the middle. The shuttle comes by every 10 minutes so there is never a long wait to get back to the mountain. Worth it if you are a good glade skier and they just got some snow.

Also at Sugarbush there is some hidden glades in the Castlerock peak area. Go down the run that is to the far right when you are going up the lift. If you look on the skier's right side of that trail near the top, there are a couple little opennings. Also worth it on a good pow day. I hope that made sense.

Basically, Sugarbush is a glade paradise on a pow day. Make your own trails! Definately try the slidebrook traverse though to the glades if you like tight trees.

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

tucks is good, and some place in greenville ME is good too, forgot the name

Stryken, do you know of any cliffs and drops at Sugarbush. Someone vaguely described one being off the Castlerock peak, and theres a cliff band thats good to jump on a pow day. Is that true? I'm going up soon as I was wondering if there would be any cool off the beaten track runs to check out.

Hmm...Thompson's brook is good stuff. Start at the summit of wildcat, goes out of bounds from wildcat, down a river. Make sure to go after some serious snowfall, and straitline the series of about 14 cliffs. The cliffs are all about 6 feet tall, pretty fun to fly off. Also, check out the River Run. My friends and I found it, It goes from one of the trails down the center of wildcat, and is about a 50 minute extremely technical run with many drops and chutes. IT is alot of fun, and very tiring. Enjoy!
