Hi8 or Mini DV?

Howdy. Here's my position:

I'm trying to decide between buying a Hi8 cam and a high-quality card for bringing it onto the comp without losing a lot of quality (like, a $300 card). Or... buy a MiniDV cam and a firewire card.

In your opinion, what puts out the best quality video for putting onto a comp?

def miniDV. what is this hi8 you speak of, forget you ever heard the term hi8 and get minidv.

 
get mini dv, i got a Hi8 and i wouldn't have done it looking back, i could have now a good mini dv instead of my Hi8, but it's still good, no doupt

but. my friend has a Hi8 and he got a really good Analog to PC card and it put out some incredible quality video. So I was just asking for opinion, don't get all sarcastic.

firewire is several times the quality of any analog card. minidv is twice the resolution of hi8

yea the quality of the tape is just superior to that of hi8. so no matter what card you get you still are at a loss from the get go. Plus the abilty to control the camera from the computer is a plus, can just plug in the camera and capture away. i'd recomend minidv

 
Alrighty then, chances are now that I'm going to be getting a Canon (yay) Eulera or something on thos lines, buying off a friend.

fuck 35mm - my uncle is making an Imax camera - that 70mm vertically and 35mm is measured horizontaly across tne film, making imax several times the size/quality of 35mm

yea for sure, I have a Imax film reel of me chasing my old cat around. Stuff is so cheap I duno why everyone doesn't use it.

 
Filming with an IMAX camera would be the biggest pain in the ass, those things are HUGE. You would need to have it on like a trailer behind a groomer or something.

write them on two different sheets of paper, then but them under your pillow, sleep on em then pull one out in the morning and whichever on it is...buy it! works for me...but i've never really tried it come to think of it
