HEY YOU! did you came here to ask "what camera?" IF YOU DID, CLICK HERE FIRST

do you want an SLR camera, with interchangeable lenses? or a nice point and shoot?

I'm looking at the Pentax Kr and Kx. Anyone have experience with these? Looking to get a good dslr, gonna be shooting alot of ski pictures/ filming skiing as well as other normal picture taking. I would probably do alot of tripod filming once I get a dslr.

inb4 get a t2i

haven't seen or heard much about the Pentax's and filming, I'd stick to panasonic and canon if i were you

Just went to a cam store and held the K-r and T2i side by side. The T2i feels like garbage compared to the Pentax. Tis what I am getting.

Hey, im looking for a camera and im new at this stuff but i am looking at cameras that can take pictures and videos.

i have been looking at the t2i and t3i but am a beginner at this stuff so i am wondering if you have any suggestions for me?

Thanks

This is pretty much how I am. If you can, check out some photography stores and hold a bunch of different cameras. I did that and held the Pentax kr and the Canon T2i and I loved the feel of the Pentax. It shoots 720p vs 1080 with the T2i, but it felt like a better camera overall, and it's got better stats for photos. I'm 100% sure it's what I am going to get and I plan on doing a nice mix of photos and video. the T2i is an awesome camera though, I'm sure you wouldn't be saddened if you got it. I know a few kids with it and they absolutely love it.

yeah i plan to go to some stores and i know a couple of people with t2i's thats why im looking at them and the t3i's. i have enough money to get on or the other right now but i want to wait it out.

Alright guys, I have a question.

I plan on buying a Pentax kr soon, and I am debating between two lens kits. I read in another thread that lenses with wide ranges don't take as great of pictures. I can get the kr with either the 50-200mm or the 55-300mm ($100 more). This is in addition to the 18-55 that comes with the cam. What do?

dont buy the kit lenses, they are usually garbage. save up a little more and buy something a little better (dont know what lenses have a pentax mount though, sorry)

So should I just buy the body and then buy a better 18-55mm ish lens to begin with? I don't really need a telephoto lens right now, I'm just looking at my options. I definitely understand the better quality lens costing me less in the long run.

Ok, so I see a lot of questions in this thread, but very little to no answers. I'm basically in the same boat as every other kid in here. Wants a nice camera, understands its gona be expensive but doesnt want to spend an excessive amount of money if its not necessary, experience with gopro/camcorder, editing with Imovie and all that good stuff.

Anyone have any answers, or can put up a link to a good thread with more info, I'm sure theres tons of these threads

I'm looking for a camera. Not a video camera tho. Something like this

D5000.jpg

its a nikon d500. Want this kind of camera, and i want as much as i can get for as low price as possible. NOt neccecarily super cheap, but i want much for what i pay. think you can help me out jamie?

T2i is pretty sick and not super expensive. You have probably already looked at it though.

Umm I would decide between the t3i/t4i and 60d. You can buy all of these cameras now for less than 900 dollars which leaves you with 400-600 dollars for a lens which can buy you a pretty nice wide angle. I really don't think there is any reason to buy a consumer camcorder because the manually settings are just so limited not to mention there really little and quality/continuous autofocus are really the only things they offer. DSLR's definitely take some practice but are worth it (to me at least). If I were you I would go 60d with tamron 17-50 because the 60d has a much stronger and nicer body than the rebels which is kinda comforting when your filming in snow/rain/cold/sketchy situations.

I would go with a Canon rebel of some sort, either a t2i or t3i. The t4i looks good but its also a lot more expensive than the other rebels so I would stray a way from that one, also lenses mean a lot more than the body when it comes to quality difference so I would put a good amount of money towards that instead of a body that has the same sensor size just more gutchy features. I own a t2i and its great I have never had a problem with it and have no reason to upgrade to a t3i or t4i besides the articulating screen, and even if I were to upgrade I would go with the 60d because of its better build quality. If you go on any forum they will say the t2i is still the best bang for your buck out of all the canon cameras. The t3i and t4i don't have that much more to offer besides the articulating screen and for the t4i faster processors and continuous autofocus but the continuous AF is a first for all the canon cameras so there's probably lots of room for improvement so I would stray away from that, also for me touch screens are not great in terms of shooting skiing. You said that you would like to get into short films so I would definitely go with a DSLR because they offer so many more manual settings than a regular consumer camcorder and to me they just have a much better quality. When I see a camcorder I see quality and a compact size nothing else. If I were you I would go with the t2i or t3i and tamron 17-50mm. Also I am a huge Canon fan so I really don't compare any other brands because to me I don't thinks its necessary ha ha but plenty of other people will probably argue that thought. One more thing is that you might want to upgrade to FCP, Adobe Premier or a bit more robust editing program.

So I'm interested in starting to film some skiing, nothing major, just getting some video here and there, and I've got a quick question about cameras. At my house we have a Nikon coolpix L120 and a sony hd avchd video camera. Which one of these cameras would be better for filming skiing or are they both not really good enough?

Sony AVCHD Camcorder. Unless you have some sort of video enabled DSLR, a picture camera usually doesn't give you great results.

Hey, I'm looking to upgrade my camera and get more into photography. I've been using a Nikon Coolpix s3000 for a few years now but nothing serious, I haven't gotten into editing or anything. Would I want to start with a dslr? I've been looking at the T3i and the Nikon d5100. Looking to shoot mainly friends/family, and outdoors, maybe get into shooting some skiing eventually. Any insight on those or suggestions in that price range?

I'm assuming your budget is around $700, just from looking up the prices, but what would you say your initial budget is? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like stills are your priority. If this is the case, you may want to look at buying a used canon xxD, they give all the performance, but with better build quality and they are in general, more "professional" quality bodies

I second this. Look at used 30/40ds, or if you want to do video then a t2i or gh2 or nikon equivalent would be good. Stills or video?

So 700 for lens and camera in total? Then a used x0d (20, 30 40 50 etc) would be good. Not sure which lenses you could get for that low of a budget though, maybe a 17-50 and a kit telephoto or something.

so finally getting a new camera! looking for a dslr so i have more manual options, different lenses etc.

1) What is your budget? How much money can you spend right away, and do you think you can get more money to invest in the future? Like £800 tops on the body, buying second hand

2) What experience do you already have with cameras? Have you ever even used one before? Have you helped your friend out with his camera? Have you owned your own?

relatively high end point and shoot, casio ex-fh20, shooting mostly stills, some video

2) What gear, if any, do you currently have? (tripod, old camera lenses, mics, etc)

shitty tripod, useful when its not too windy etc.

4) What are you planning to shoot and how do you want to use your camera? Are you going to use this with the sole purpose of shooting skiing? or do you think you might try other stuff as well (movies, documentaries, short films, etc)

mostly ski edits and stills, other sports photography, and general stills

5) Do you want a camera that you can hand to your friends, that could or could not have film experience, and let them shoot you? or will you be doing all the filming?

I'd be doing most of the filming, only letting people who knew what they were doing use it unless its used from a tripod

6) When filming skiing, how do you tend to shoot? (follow cams, leave it on record on a tripod and hike, film from a tripod, etc)

Follow cams, tripod, though i try and get as many angles as possible

7) What computer do you currently have/use to edit (if not currently editing, what would you most likely use)? If you can provide specifics, such as hard drive space, RAM, processor size, that would be great.

Macbook pro, nuff said

7) What program do you currently edit on? How familiar are you with it (1- just learning; 10- I can make tutorials and know the keyboard layout)

Haven't really done a lot of editing myself usually i send my editing friends the footage, but i'm looking to spend a decent amount of time learning how to use either final cut or whatever
