Hey Man, Don't Call Last Run!

lol. Sometimes I get paranoid about calling last run but I can't think of a time I actually got wrecked on last run (after calling it). Seems to me like the reasons you listed (being tired, focusing on other things) are definitely more likely to cause a crash.

Good read!

here something taht i've noticed. your almost always injured on your last run, at least i always have been, cuz if its bad your usually done for the day or week or month or whatever. But i have called last run and broken my ankle and a concussion right after doing so >.>

I called last run in like 2002 when i snowboarded. I ended up with breaking the endof my elbow off and moving it up my arm. now i have two pins holding it together.

in 2004 my last run BMXing a rhythe section caused a spiral fracture up my leg. now I have a metal plaet and screws just above my ankle.

No last runs for me. I always head out earlier than the other guys, they get pissed but they will never understand why

Pretty sure people get injured on their last run because it's their last chance to do that really difficult trick that they can't quite land.

wow, i can't believe i have seen a post from both Barnoff and Wagner in the same thread!

But my last run called three-fours years ago resulted in knocked out teeth and a broken thumb. Wagner can agree that it sucked haha.

when me and my friends are thinking about calling it for the day we don't call Last Run, instead we'll just be like... well, lets go do *enter run name here* and when we get to the bottom we'll see how we feel. If we've managed to ski till last chair and the lifty tells us Last Run, we'll just go to the groomer and bomb it down to the bottom instead of going to the knar and risking eating shit.

you should never call last run.

haha, not really on topic. But I love when I think I have to go down, then I look at the bottom of the chair and see people loading, I rush over and get the last chair. It's such a great feeling.

No offense to THall but he said it was his last run before the heli and then he broke his ankles but he wasn't fatigued at all.

But on the other hand last runs at the end of the day those are factors for it and you also might be trying something that you couldn't land earlier so with the fatigue factor and anxiety you are more likely to crash.

I never call last run. Broke my hand doing it once. I'm generally not very superstitious but I ain't never callin last run again.

I used to call it all the time when I was racing and it never bothered mebut for some reason it gets to me now that I ride park so I've stoppedI think saying it just gets to some people.

For me it isn't necessarily because I hurt myself when I call Last Run, (I don't really like saying the word anywhere now actually) its because so many things have gone wrong when I called it in the past, including my friend overshooting a jump by 50+ feet, (he didn't know about Last run but more importantly he didn't speed check) me breaking my bindings twice, my friend breaking his board etc. and I just don't think its good luck.
Kinda like calling shut out in hockey.

Be strong Pete, you do not have to give in to everyone else's desires. Call last run, and say it proudly.

This isn't anything more than common sense in this article....it's just a fun tradition. Whoever wrote that needs to get laid and stop wasting their life.

yeah thats what i say all the time. but as im doing it im shaking my head to my buddy to tell him it actually is our last run. almost as if i dont want to angry the gods or something. but me and my brother usually call each others last run right before we drop just to piss each other off hahaha

I don't like thinking of the run I'm skiing as the last run of the day while I'm skiing it, I'll start missing skiing while I'm skiing!

hahahahahahhhahaha i didnt know calling last run was such a taboo, but now that i think about it, the few times i did it last year im pretty sure i ate shit hard every time
once we called it and i lost control and went over a small cliff i had forgotten about and racked my nuts on a little tree that was growing out of it...landed flat on my back. it hurt a ton but i didnt break anything thank god.
other time we took a lap thru the park on our way down and on the last box (which was like the easiest one in the park) i came out 270 and landed switch but the snow was heavy and grabbed one of my inside edges and threw me down...and i dislocated my shoulder
then there was the time we were burning down to the village and i came over a knuckle hauling ass and encountered a mogul field that had never been there until it had warmed up at lower elevations that day...i pinballed like a mofo and didnt ski the next morning

.. a few years back, a group of kids i was with decided to call the last run of that day, only two of us made it back. the rest died horrible deaths. it was tragedy,

no way dude, calling last run is definitely bad luck. i know first hand, a couple years ago i shattered my thumb while traversing across a hill on the last run of the first of a month of straight pow days at squaw. bad luck or coincidence? idk, you tell me.

When I was eleven, I called last run. Went through the park, overshot the first jump, and landed super flat, really far from the landing. Split my ski, smacked my head, and haven't ridden park until the very end of last season. I'm 16 now... so it was my last run through the park for a long, long while. Last run of the season too. What I'm trying to say is, that the one thing you should take away from this story is, eleven year olds are easily traumatized. I never could do tricks, but I would sail over 40 footers all the time. Now I'm building my confidence over 25 footers... unless there's pow on the landing. But there never is. I don't have ADD, I'm just really bored. Booyaa, brudda.

no matter what im doing i do it untill i have done it well a few times and then quite after the 3rd or so time doing it really well.

I never call last run anymore... I always end up hurting myself. The problem is though I just can't leave the park without a nice clean run. I like finishign the day up good, but in the case of last call I always end up skiing back to the lodge in agony.
