^Right. But a nice little provision in the Patriot act allows bush to bypass that process. The USA has not declared war on Afghanistan, Iraq or anything since Korea. The "conflict" as it would be called in Iraq is certainly a war of aggression on our part.
We have been swinging back in forth in our country as to which side of the political spectrum is most agreed upon. With the Progressives in the '20s, the Neo-Cons in the "50s, the New-left in the "60s, and now a rise of the Right, we are left with a choice. Do we want to keep a government that is relentless in its fumbling of important matters such as disaster relief, the environment, our national debt, and the waste of Billions of taxpayer dollars in contracts with companies that contributed to the GOP but don't deliever the goods.
I think this is a time for the Left to rise up and take control of this mess. It is not difficult to point out the problems. What we need are people that can fix them.
I would suggest an immediate end to tax cuts. This would help to plug the leaks in our governments monetary reserves, which are needed in times of crisis. As d-loc suggested, we should legalize marijuana, and then tax it. We should also put much heavier taxes on cigarettes, to pay for the health care of their human destruction. We should Put more money into a free public health care system. True, it has its flaws such as long wait times, but it can help the largest amount of people to get care when they need it. We should commit a certain amount each year to paying down the national debt, so our country cannot be controled by our debtors (the Japanese, Chinese, and Saudis). We should stop getting involved in other peoples business, and commiting our troops to long term invasions with no plan for pulling out.
Instead of bitching and complaining, I suggested some answers. Feel free to critique them, for only by disscussion and talking things through can we fix this grand fuck up we call the USA.

Well if the problems are everywhere the democrats look, wouldnt that make it easier to start solving them? we need to all work together to make this world a better place. The fact that Bush is or is not a good president is neither here nor there. he is the president right now, and i am positive he is doing a better job than Kerry could have done, let alone Dean. What we need to do is work together and follow the ideals of our country which is limited federal government involvment.

STOP saying that because its a stupid argument and goes nowhere. We are talking about politics and Washington DC here. Most of those "democrats" you are talking about are trying everything in their power to "do something". But you know what? There isn't a whole to do when republicans run both branches of the government. OK? Can I be any more clear on that? It's not like a democrat can run over to Iraq and make it all better, it takes talking and talking and cooperation, etc. etc. SO, we've established democrats are trying.

I think a good deal of our problems stem from the fact we have only two significant political parties. The fact that one party can get an advantage and then control a certain area of government for a long period of time is not comforting. If we had more than just black and white in our voting box, things would become more complex.
The three or more parties would make for more competion in the political marketplace. If an idea is not sound, people have two other choices, meaning that those choices have to create better solutions than their counterpart in order to get the vote. With a few more choices, we will get natural selection in our politics and the idiots will be eliminated.
I say "few more" choices, because if every group has its own candidate, then the margins of winning will become tiny and a fation can win because they have slightly more people. This becomes increasingly important when dealing with large organizations that vote consistently as a uniform block, such as the Mormon Religion. I am not picking on Mormonism, but it makes for a good example. The Mormons generally vote as one, meaning that if a candidate can meet their views, he gets the reference from their leader at the time.
This large group voting can out-vote those other groups when they are farther divided on issures.

Well, in that case consider the French and German governments, where there are multiple parties that are all fairly popular. France is now run by its Unions, and Germany is struggling to get a Chancellor in power.
More choices is automatically going to mean more problems. Hell, we've already had enough trouble electing one president (bush's first term), choosing from more would just be insane...
and nader is always the safe way out =)
