I've worked in the ski industry. I've been to SIA. I've heard the way guys in the industry talk about 'pro hoes' and all this garbage. About how women shouldn't be sponsored and how womens skiing will never be as good as the men... and yet they're trying to sell womens skis and snowboards? Fucking idiots, I tell you. They blame poor sales on disinterest when they can't even hire a chick as a sales representative - oh, unless she's selling apparel. Then that makes sense all of a sudden.

it's not even just a problem in skiing. It's a problem in our society. Women are mocked for being sports fans. Men are mocked for wanting to be a hair dresser. Women are mocked for going into physics or tech fields rather than literature or art history. Men are scoffed at at when they show up for a womens studies class and he turns out not to be gay (happened to me). These 'norms' as we call them make up the way we treat people, and hold prejudice against who they should be and what they should do.
You wouldn't say that women who crush a bump run are lame right? What about a ski racer hauling 80mph down a rock hard ice field...? oh, but if she's in your terrain park, and she's not throwing a cork 10? "Laaaame, get off my lawn!"
Let's treat women in our community right. Let's treat them like they belong. They do. Whether you like watching their edits or not... And if you respect them, and treat them right, they might fucking surprise you and one day, we'll have a whole olympic field of Sarah Burkes killing it.

I honestly think the female side of freeskiing is one of the raddest things going on in skiing right now. Watching somebody push the envelope to their farthest personal limits while doing tricks I can actually relate to is awesome. I love watching Henrik toss buttered triples or Clayton spin onto 5 kink closeouts. It's mind boggling. But my stoke factor is so much higher for ams and female rider who are pushing the limits. In the most positive way, it's like cheering for the underdog.
Female skiing is crazier than it's ever been, and the fact that there are TWO female ski movies this season is insane. Keep murdering it ladies.
IMO, sexist bullshit should be an immediate bannable offense. It's insider sabotage of freeskiing.

I totally agree, don't get me wrong, but I think it's more. I don't necessarily just see girls being treated badly, but kids who are younger, kids who maybe aren't as good of skiers as the rest of us (I honestly suck), and just everyone else. I have 3 pet peeves when it comes to this. Obviously, the thing about girls. Not only are some comments offending but they are really fucking annoying. It is really shocking the maturity level of probably half the members. The next, when someone is uneducated about something pertaining to skiing, they make a thread about what they have to say, and then get hate because they are stupid or they didn't use the searchbar or whatever. Do people actually think that they are accomplishing things by doing that? I really don't understand. You may think that it's nothing but when you're on the other end of it I bet it's a lot worse. Now, video's. There are kids who are just getting into skiing or ones that have been skiing for awhile. Some of us are really ballsy, and kids don't really have anything to lose. Also some of the kids on the hill today are naturals and athletes. What I hate...never ever ever ever hate on someones video of a new trick they learned or an edit they put together showcasing their skiing ability, whether it be a boy, girl, alien, smurf I don't care. This should be a gimme. Do kids on this site not remember being there at one point? The best skiers in the world at one point were the same way, so why be mean to kids who maybe don't make it to the hill as often as some kids do and others who focus primarily on skiing. It totally takes the stoke and the fun out of skiing and learning new tricks. There's a mental reward for doing something cool that you've never done before. It gets you sooo happy and so excited and pumped for more. What if that was gone? I hate it when kids comment "wow _________ sucks". I fucking hate it. Ok I'm done.

I am so happy Newschoolers can address this. I personally have never gotten what I would consider hate, but I have gotten several negative comments on edits I've posted, or with me in them before, and those stick way far out from the positive feedback, I can't imagine what it's like getting consistent hate on here. I know I would definitely stop posting my content. This thread hopefully sticks out to those kids who can't do anything better than hate. This has been a pleasure to read through
I just wish kids would be more real and genuine, like 75% of the comments on ns someone would NEVER say that to someone in real life. People love to hid behind the internet and hatehatehate everything and be racist/sexist/etc it's ridiculous. If this problem is starting to drive away women skiers from the most popular ski website, things need to fucking change.

Continuing to separate the treatment between girls and guys on ns will only perpetuate the problem and widen the gender gap. Do not treat girls with respect. Treat people/equals/peers/skiers with respect, and those who earn your respect at that. Were all skiers, and its just skiing.

I have teached one female friend to do a backflip and encouraged other one to do it on trampoline. To see girls stomp it is awesome.

I can't tell you how many times I've been at the top of an inrun of a feature and a girl skis by and then someone calls her a gaper, says she sucks, or says "I'm gonna try to see if I can get a blowy from her on the lift".
I think that one aspect of the hate of the guys towards girls is that there's a lot of guys out there working really hard on their skiing and don't have a lot of recognition, and won't really get anything from skiing. As for a girl, from a guy's perspective, it seems a lot easier to get recognition. So there's probably a lot of guys that tell themselves unconsciously "it would be so much easier if I was a girl". But at the same time, no guy would trade his abilities just for being a top women skier.
It's cool if girls ski, it's inspiring for girls and everything. But as a guy, I don't watch women skiing. I don't like it, it's not impressive to me. And it's the same with women sports in general. If you're a guy, watching women sports is not the most exciting thing.
What BWalmser said makes sense. Girls are pretty much victim of cyberintimidation, and it's not cool if they stop skiing. But seriously, there's a few girls out there that you can see are putting the effort and want to progress their skiing, and have a pretty good level. But come on, some girls at the olympics didn't even look like olympic athletes.
Oh and one last thing. We should treat girls skiing park just like anyone else, not like if they're special. No one's really chearing when a guy clears a rail. If it was the same for girls, I'm sure they'd just want to push themselves harder instead of being like "Oh it looks like I'm good I can do front 2s". It seems a bit harsh, but to me, it makes sense.

So I don't have the attention span to read all the comments. However, I don't see how their could be any argument to keeping the trend going. When I see a chicks edit I get fuckin stoked! Especially if they're better than me. We need more girls out there throwin the fuck down and hate won't ever get that done. THen again, I never send hate. If someone is better than me and is throwin it down, I give them props.(I give alot of props haha) If I see someone strugglin with something, just throw em a "keep at it" or something.
