Hey democrats

You seem to neglect an entire thing called hte private sector. Many great things can be built by the private sector. Take I-90 (i.e. Mass Pike; NY-Mass) for example. I-90 is mostly a privately constructed and privately owned highway and profits greatly. It also happens to be one of the most environmentally friendly and problem free highways. The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority (partially private) makes money by installing tolls, and selling monopolistic regions to Mcdonalds and Gulf.

Anything run by a government, especially a free government, is full of beaurocracy and waste. Let the private sector develop more with help from the government. But it is not our absolute responsibility to help other people out to a scale that democrats like.

Private sector work has its problems. When running something as large as a country, having millions of subcontracted parceled jobs with different standards and regulations... well, will begin to cost billions. There are other reasons why governments are a bit better than private companies... I could get into how corporations love to step all over workers and how a for profit business will usually sacrifice ANYTHING to reach a profit, including morals and ethics.

Regardless, its ridiculous to think that corporations would be less wasteful than governments, given the same amount of responsibility. Until you replace CEO's and senators with law-abiding moral-infused robots, we're going to always see lies, cheating and corruption.

If I used it as a handicap I wouldn't be reading and writing at such a high level. I had a problem so I worked hard not to let it affect me and it has made me a better person hell I never took the leniency I was offered on graded papers or refused to take spelling tests. I'm sure you being able to overcome your anger issue has made you a better person.

I absolutly hate when people complain about their situation cause no one's is ever perfect seriously anyone can overcome obsticals which is what seperates the succseful from the unsucsseful.

Oh I have ADHD to and refuse to take meds for it so I tend not to pay attention in class and am easly distracted but to me it just makes school go that much faster.

and i refuse to correct my spelling for you NS'ers

I have ADHD too and I refuse to take meds. I work on trying to fix my "problem." I also have anxiety disorder, not an "anger problem." My temper combined with that makes me difficult to deal with at times. I'm overcoming it with some help. I need that help, or I would have been dead by now.

But back on topic. I agree with you and jumeister a little bit, it's fair game and most people can raise themselves out of poverty. This is why I am centrist, not liberal in this aspect.

But it is HARD. My parents had no support from their parents, who were poor in the first place. They worked up to it, and worked their asses off. There are success stories, blah blah. Not that many people have success stories. You and ju make it seem like everyone has the opportunity to raise themselves up, which is simply not true. No amount of tear-jerking rags to riches stories can justify the billions of people around the world, and the millions of people in the states who are dirt poor and are working their asses off just to get by.

Every bit that you can do to help your fellow Americans is a good thing. If you can't agree with that, then all we're arguing about are fundamental moral values that we differ in, which is worthless to argue about.

So my parents were both cut off after high school. Both my grandfathers were helping support their families at a young age both became highly sucssesful enginers one arospace the other aircrafts. Almost everyone who it made something out of theirselfs had to work hard to get their.

I give to the real poor and downtrotten I buy food for homeless when I meet them and I send charity to africa cause they are starving to death so I'm tired of the "poor" in this country bitching about how everything is stacked against them.

and it not about how hard you work if your working a job that anyone could do(not saying everyone would do it) if you are uneducated your just not going to be middle class unless your a good athleate

Oh I do have some advantages my parents are giving me an allowance once I start college and when I graduate if I move back home they'll give me a discount on rent.

You are right, "people are naturally selfish" that is why no matter how much faith you put in the government it doesnt mean it will be better than the private sector. It is still selfish people running the government.

So if I had a choice I would pick the non intrusive and efficient private sector over the government any day.

so your saying if i ever go camping in alaska i better bring a bag to shit in or it might fuck up the metapopulations range for recovery?

i'm sorry but fuck that, lets not be so anal about this shit. i hate when land is so restricted that you cant even look at it without hurting it, like what good is it then when no one can enjoy it?

This is right in a way,we should be our brothers keeper, we just shouldnt have the government tell us how to be our brothers keeper.

I choose not to affiliate myself with any political party, as it seems that far too often the interests of the party come before the interests of the nation. In fact, I've even been heard to utter, "Democrats, Republicans: Same shit, different piles."

However, given that I'm what most would call a "radical left-wing nutjob," I tend to side with the Democrats on many issues (usually in a "lesser of two evils" capacity).

Primarily this is because of two beliefs of mine:

1) EDUCATION, well planned and well-funded, is the most effective way to address most of our society's problems; and

2) Without government control, capitalism becomes nothing more than highway robbery. Reference the rampant greed on the part of lenders who have baited millions of Americans into debt they can't repay, spurring the credit and housing crises. Reference the processed food producers, retailers, and fast-food chains who willfully advertise products that will addict and poison our bodies, in turn financing the pharmaceutical industry which similarly misleads and addicts us. Reference the everpresent advertising that is intended to make the individual feel inadequate or "behind the times" without that new truck, home, tech gadget, beverage or laundry detergent, in turn fueling the credit and banking industries.

In my opinion, any kind of "economic stimulus plan" being promoted is a joke; producers and marketers driven to make a profit at any cost have led the American society into a vortex of consumerism that is extremely wasteful, in most cases antagonistic to our health, and almost completely unsustainable.

Now, bloated industries which have thrived for decades on American consumers' gullibility and perceived dependence are starving because they've already drained us for all we're worth, and the best solution our political parties can offer is to fork over more money.

An article in a recent TIME magazine stated that Bush's economic stimulus plan was akin to giving a desperate drunk another drink; I couldn't agree more.

your a fool if you think drilling in alaska will only effect "useless tundra". what we need is an alternative so that drilling wont even be on anyones mind. i hate when people pretend to know what they are talking about...

I couldnt have said it better myself.

I honestly vote independantly, but tend to side with the dems for the same reasons, as well as others.

I hate taxes as much as the next man, but from what I've seen, lowering taxes, just means that programs such as EDUCATION, which is ussually hit with massive budget cuts before anything else, becomes funded far less. Thus meaning larger classrooms, less educated and credentialed teachers, fewer after school programs keeping our kids off the streets.

That said, HEALTHCARE programs are cut pretty quickly as well... nurses wages get cut, there are less doctors around, and higher healthcare insurance for those who cannot afford it - seeing as medicaid funding is taken off pretty fast...

-That last one hurts me the most. I have healthcare as long as I take at least 12 units of college every semester... thats how my Father's benifit plan works with his company... This has helped me get ACL surgury, ingrown toenails taken out, stitches in many places ,get affordable medication, and heal multiple broken bones when necessary - due to my very active, and physical lifestyle.

but many of my friends are not as lucky...They are in college, working part time, making barely enough to pay for their books, and when they get hurt skiing, and blow their knees, or break their arms.. they are AFRAID to go to a hospital, and recieve the right medical care, because then they have to pay out of the ass for the rest of their lives. In fact, its CHEAPER to drive clear all the way to Canada, and get some canadian doctors to do your surgury, than it is to deal with the lack of an American healthcare plan (other than medicare and medicaid, that is)

ANYWAYS... in my opinion.. Medical programs for us active, and injury prone young folks are VERY possible... but WE NEED TO VOTE.

See, people under 25, just dont vote. And it PISSES ME OFF. I dont care if you vote conservative, or liberal, or vote COMMUNIST... just fucking vote for SOMETHING that you agree with. Educate yourself... you're all on the internet obviously... Go to Johnmccain.com, and go to Barackobama.com... look at the issues they support... dont listen to political ads (lies) on TV. They are just bullshit from both sides of the table. Instead, educate YOURSELF, and vote... otherwise, these politicians are just going to fuck us that much harder, because they cant see us supporting them...

...because taxes are an investment in your country's government so it can provide services (ex: a military for protection, medicaid, social security, etc) and not penalties put on you by them. the current republican rallying cry around taxes is that they are penalties and should be lowered so people are better off. turns out, the only ones who end up better are the richer classes of poeple.

dont yell at me here for this, but i believe that taxes for the highest income bracket should return to what they were during the eisenhower anministration, which is 91%. the wealthy do not need that extra few million every year (or month for the top few probably). maybe then we can begin to chip away at the deficeit that we have of more than $9 trillion because i dont really want to owe countries like china any money.

i would call myself a socialist before a democrat, but the socialist party isnt gonna win any elections in the near future so democrat works fine.

i think thats the one thing i do not like about republicans as a whole. other than that, some things are fine by me.

Exactly!!! I can't even vote yet, I miss the election by a year but I hate it when kids say "Oh I support Obama" without a single clue of what his views are except for "channggeee." Yeah...ok? What kind of change?

I'm not saying I side with McCain or anything but you don't see many kids saying "zomg john mccains all the rage" every day...and the entire concept works with my argument anyways. If you stand for something, then vote for it...if you don't and don't know what you stand for, EDUCATE YOURSELF, SON.

Im not a democrat, because i think both parties are, to some degree, full of shit.

I think that Mccain really is into 'staying strong' in iraq, ad possibly invading iran. For this reason, if i could vote, i would vote for Obama, because the path of spending trillions of dollars fighting a war starting on false pretenses is not fiscally responsable, and that will most likely be what Mccain will do.

Also I disagree with other things that Reblucicans stand for, such as not giving equal rights to homosexual couples, and not allowing abortion.

However, I think that i would not like to be in the same party as Elliot Spitzer.

Well, at the same time, would you rather support the same party as Jack Abermoff?

Vote independantly... based on your opinions.. not party lines..

i do vote one opinions. All i was saying was that my opinions tend to align with what is what the dems think, but i wont consider myself part of either, because they are both have folks like spitzer or foley or edwards or craig.

ok?

Uh.. that 2nd line (the one about voting indp), i wasnt talking to you.. i was more or less talking to everybody, in agreement with you.

the first line though.. (the one about abermoff) i was just stating that what somebody affiliated with ONE party does, is easily contrasted by something done by another person in the other party. thats all.
