hey. i'm trying to get an honest understanding from you guys, not trying to start any shit. but why is it that you are democrat? like just throw out some reasons i've always been curious as to why you would want a bigger government and everything else democrats go for. so seriously, dont start any shit (yeah i know thats a long shot), and tell me whats up besides some dude claiming hes going to change everything. thanks guys.
 
i'm in it more for the no war thing, the freedom to let people decide what they want to do (whether the bible justifies it or not) as long as it's not hurting others, and more emphasis on issues like healthcare and whatnot. i'm over the whole 'fight them there or fight them here' blabber that i get from conservatives whenever i mention the bs (imo) war. those are the main points i guess. i could give two shits about taxes when we are throwing away obnoxious amounts of money on a pointless war. stop the war, and maybe the economy will fix itself
 
not really democrat or republican but i think we need a democratic president right now because democrats are more for the federal gov. being involved in businesses instead of the laissez-faire relaxed type republicans. and since our economy is in the shitt right now we need a president who will get involved with it and help it out

Agreed, like people who need aid in foreign countries. Not those in America who blew the chances they had. I'd rather choose who my charities go to rather than have the government decide for me.

Please, explain to me how government meddling into the private sector would do anything but have a severely negative impact on the economy. I'm drawing a blank as to when this has actually helped. But I can think of many times in history when its had to opposite effect.
 
By increasing taxes, awesome stimulus for the economy, you Americans have no idea how fucked you are if Obama gets in.

this is how I have always felt.

Plus 20 years from now the world is going to be fucked if we don't have a stable Africa and allow the people of Africa to benifit from the natural resources of their continent.

Plus in other places all there asking is for a couple of bucks a day for food water shelter and education for how much people in new orleans want we really could have helped people in Africa alot more.
 
Why is she having kids off of one night stands is the better question. Personal responsibility, one must accept the consequences of his or her actions. Nothing but hoodrats coming out of the projects anyway, no matter how much money you want to throw at it that won't change.

Democrats love spending other people's money to "help people". But when it comes down to their own money they are among the most selfish, narcissistic people on the planet.
 
according to CNN Obama is calling for another $50 billion "economy booster" prior to the him or McCain taking office. because that first one helped so much.

how about a class action suit against all those who made millions thru speculative oil trading the past year, and taking that money to protect us against the domino affect of higher prices on everything?
 
by what? subsidizing everything? why don't we go after those worthless environmentalists who have prevented us from drilling all that oil out of the otherwise useless Alaskan tundra?

Want to take a guess who pays for the subsidies China is putting on their gasoline to keep it affordable? The American taxpayer. About 5 cents of every tax dollar goes to paying interest to the Chinese government. A figure that will only increase as time goes on. The United States is running on borrowed time.

 
Have you heard of something called rape? Somebody is supposed to be personally responsible for what some people on this site call "surprise secks"? If we actually try to fix the problems in ghettos all over, I think we will make a significant difference in a lot of lives. What do you mean nothing but hoodrats coming out of the projects? I've seen multiple hard-work success stories through kids in the hood because of (government funded) people helping and intervening in these kids' lives.
 
Here's what I don't like about the Republican party. They always expect people to fix stuff for themselves all the time, however it's really hard to pay the same % tax as the rich family trying to feed their family WHILE trying to put food on the table for their families. You gotta give some people who work their butts off some slack. It's not cool in my mind that there are so many people working hard to change their lives that we leave behind and blame their non-success on them.
 
I think this is a major problem with a large group of Republicans; a large majority tend to stereotype the hell out of the world and cast aside large parts of society. Blatant ignorance is a major issue, and is part of the reason I lean more Democratic.

I would argue that there are, as ^ just said, quite a number of hard working people coming out of the projects; however you are correct that there is a LARGE hoodrat culture which is a problem. Actually not even so much a problem in and of itself, but in the fact that a large part OF that culture is tied to crime.

I prefer not to tie myself to either party, although I am a registered Dem, as I prefer to think for myself about any issue, and not follow the "party line" bullshit.

(I do agree about personal accountability however; people really should have the common fucking sense not to be popping out babies when they can't even afford to feed themselves......... but that's an issue that I don't completely understand, nor have I thought long enough on it...... more on this later, mythreads for now.)

 
I find a large amount of hard core republicans to be morons, but im not really democrat either, we did a test in government class when i was a senior and i came out to be in the middle between both.
 
well for starters there's something called income tax brackets so they actually don't pay the same % income tax. but they do have to pay the same sales tax and gas tax as those damn rich white folk.

yes there are some "rich" people who really don't do much all day and make their money because people below them work hard or the stock market went up.

but even someone who simply skated thru business school and got a job at mommy/daddys firm and five years out of college is earning $150,000 is still nothing compared to what athletes/musicians/hollywood make.

but in these little squanderings on NS people seem to forget there are those who do work their ass off all day and still get taxed the hell out of. that demographic is allowed to bitch about taxes.
 
Ain't THAT the truth? Drilling for oil in one of the most awe inspiring places left in the world for a quick fix of 5, maybe 10 years if we're lucky, just to help people live the same wasteful lives as before while destroying a pristine environment for really no reason other than greed.

And hoodrats? This isn't Aladin, I'd like to see how well you fare if we removed your white privilege, took your money, and put you in the projects. I'd be interesting to see how hard working you really are.
 
People say this all the time. Do you even live where they have oil wells?

I live near a ton of wells and they pump oil right off the coast in my city and I hasen't affected any nature In fact its barely noticable

so just get over the whole I don't want people drilling for oil in my backyard and stop listening to every green peace person in the world.

Also has to do with the party leaders and the issues. I align myself on many flashpoint issues closer to dems than republicans (actually, more green party than anything, but yeah). What ergs me most about our government is the extreme amount of bullshit, and while the democrats seem a little heavy on the hunky-dorey bullshit, at least they arent corrupt corporate assheads.
 
all politicians are corrupt cause they all take money from big corp.'s dems and rep are vulnerable to big buisness which is why they should cap how much they can spend on a campaign so that the politicans have less incentive for being bought out by big buissness
 
Yup. Elections are sickening. Given that both are poison though, I'll take the one that has a better stance on the environment.
 
The definition of what a democrat or republican is has faded.. and doesn't represent much of anybody anymore.

People toss around 'democrat' or 'liberal' to anyone who disagrees with Bush.. or anyone who is against tax cuts.. or anyone who believes in pro choice.. or someone who is against war at wants to avoid it all costs.. If you believe any of those, bam! you get labeled democrat or liberal and might as well slap yourself with a democrat sticker.

It's simply not the case though. This world can't be divided into republican/democrat, liberal/conservative..

While I lean more towards conservative values.. It's hard to even call myself a 'Republican' anymore. This old manner of thinking that these 100 year old Republican politicians have doesn't reflect my beliefs. They've been doing things the same way for 300 years.. so why change it? And I can't stand this close-minded kind of backwards thinking.

I agree with John Mccain on maybe.. what? 15% of issues.. And while those 15% are HUGE issues and reason enough for me to vote for him over Obama come November, he does not represent me, or my interests. Most of these republican senators have such watered down politics, short-sight, and lack of forward thinking that it makes me sick.

And I'm going to assume that many 'democrats' / liberal democrats / conservative democrats / etc. Feel the same way. While they are not going to agree with everything their party now stands for or has become.. The 15% that they DO, is reason enough for them to stand behind their current candidates..
 
good luck theres not much more we can do here and neither canidate will be able to get India or China to be more enviornmentally friendly

i'm democrat for a few reasons

one cause if i want to go get high i don't think that it should be illegal as long as its in my own home.

also, when i'm off my parents healthcare, and i get hurt i don't want to have to foot the bill that could cost thousands.

that pretty much sums it up. i don;t really care about war, or gays. its there choice so fuck it.

I dont see how I would have to sacrifice property but already sacrifice money for it.

yeah im not for breaking the bank on taxes to help Africa but more can be done by the U.S. and alot more can be done by the EU. We need to help stabilize Africa by getting more food(which btw all the ethnol subsidies the dems have been pushing has lead to a decrese in grain we have been able to send) sending more educators and doctors over and mos importantly stop letting dictators with private armies take over a rob the countries.

I still belive that in the future that Africa will have a greater impact the the worlds economy.

Also I read what you wrote on the treatment on the rest of the Americas I'll try to copy and paste it later when I have time cause I think some people here should read it whether they belive it or not

 
Fine Canada blows at clean up after themselfs the oil companies cant get away with that here.

Here the oil companies leave oil site better than when they found them and they clean up the surrounding are plus when they drill part of the tax money goes to conservation funds
 
yeah its funny because I doubt he donates much money to charity or volunteers. could be wrong, but whatever.

most americans don't go out of their way to help people, ever. I volunteer a small amount each year, not a whole lot but I figure some is better than none. we need the government to help people because private charities can't do it alone.

I'm a democrat because I don't need to be rich to be happy, I'm cool with giving some of my money to others even if they don't really deserve it. I was raised a buddhist, and then a quaker. I've always been a generous guy. money comes and goes real quick. if the gov didn't take some of my money I'd prob just spend it on something I dont really need anyways

why does everyone on ns think its so hard to get out of the ghetto? I can guarantee no one speaking in this thread has ever lived in Quincy, MA or peabody MA.

My parents came out of the cultural revolution in china. Their families' net worth was less than $1,000 USD at the time. They peed in wooden buckets and ate nothing but bread and water. they both came to america with less than 100USD and one got a scholarship to Queens college and one to Ft. lauderdale community college. Both worked hard enough to go to and pay for 100% on their own NYU graduate school and earned their masters degrees in computer science. They both make 6 figures now and have worked sooooo hard their whole lives just to have it taxed away enough to have to make them save more than they want to.

People like my parents are allowed to bitch about taxes. Waht about this demographic? No one on NS has yet ever come up with a response to my parents' situtation. All of your hypothetical situations about how its hard to escape from the ghetto stem from the assumption that its hard to do when supporting a family. How about not screwing around and working hard before you have a family?

Alex G, don't be retarded. Rape accounts for less than 1% of babies born in the ghetto. In fact most of them are aborted anyway.

So before anyone says that my parents who are true rags to riches stories must pay taxes because they earn six figures each, go fuck yourselves and think about their situation.
 
Then what is it that you stand for? From what I see, the cry for "less government" among republicans is really just a cry for "more corporations that the rich can profit more from!"

Think about it, why are so many democrats against coprorations? corporations offer so many jobs from janitor and security guard to customer service (no college degree) to mid level employee to executive.
 
I'm not against the idea of a corporation, I'm just against how they have evolved to give their rich white CEO's millions of dollars in profits, destroy hometown competition and dumb down our population.
 
yeah, my grandpa started working climbing telephone polls in the middle of nowhere Iowa, no college, his family was way way way to poor.... he is 65 years old and he will tell you about the day he got indoor lubing( the day he moved into a hotel room) he will tell you about the day they stopped harvesting corn by hand, he will tell you about the day he slept in his own bed, even by american standards, my grandpa was DIRT POOR!

today he is on a board of directors for a telophone company, and at the last meeting he was telling me they were discussing whether or not to loan another company something like 40 million dollars.... he is one of the most influential people in the whole state of Iowa in the telephone industry...

I hate corporations, oil is the best example. In a business, money is above all. Everything is fair game, even fucking your work buddy, because he will fuck you too eventually. See, it is like a bunch of criminals trying to rip each other off for monetary gain.

Government represents the public's interests, no their own. The public should be able to remove the government if the general population feels that either they are not representing the general interest or if the government is imposing their interests on the people.

So a government should be a body that is a median between population and business. They make sure everything is just and equal, for both sides.
 
see stories like these and my parents' are not uncommon. Its absolutely ridiculous to think that people who have worked this hard should be forced into supporting others who work less hard.

bottom line: quit gunning each other down, getting involved with drugs, screwing around before you can support a family or pay for an abortion. and committing crimes.

Stay in school, work jobs, and be motivated to reach the top. It's honestly that simple.

Welfare and income tax reduction only worsen the problem. It eliminates motivatin.
 
yeah, if he could make it anyone can..... he made good choices, people who are successful are the people who make good choices...

capitalism is the fairest game in the book IMO..... he worked the hardest, he got the promotion, he made more money....
