You do know that not every American in this thread said on Sunday that Canada sucked at they wouldn't win today right? In fact, many members were saying the Americans wouldn't even be playing for the Gold so the fact that we made it to have a rematch with the Canadians and gave them a pretty decent run for their money in the Gold medal game is achievement enough for me.

I'm American but its proven communities, states and nations do rally around sports especially on a stage like the Olympics and can bring together people or an entire nation. ie: Saints.

and its stupid to think that some athlete skiing fast, scoring a goal, hitting a home run, etc. reflects on you.

you didnt score the goal, you didnt hit the home run, they did. they are a part of a team, that team is all working towards a common goal. kicking the shit out of the other team.

setting on the couch with popcorn and iced tea doesnt constitute being on that team.
 
Sorry kid, I hate to crush your fantasy, but you contributed nothing to the success of the athletes that were a part of those 14 gold medals. The only link that you have to those medals is that you were born and raised in the same general area as the athletes. They will never be around your neck.

i dont think i ever said anything about inspiring people. im inspired when i watch Bode ski. watching the way he points it down the hill is an awesome thing to watch.

but never in a million years would i say that i helped him win that medal.
 
okay well the guy on the couch has no effect directly yes, but knowing a nation of these people is behind you and rooting for you does give you confidence as a player and its also a fact that being home in sports gives you a much better chance to win.
 
They will deny it.. but a bunch of Americans are being rather bitter in this thread. Canada did an amazing job this past Olympics, im so stoked to be Canadian right now, the vibe on the mountain was insane today, the slopes had hardly anyone on them because EVERYONE was watching the hockey game, and I was nearly deaf after that last goal. aahhh im super stoked right now!!

This will probably lead to some dumb ass argument about how getting first in more events makes you better. Its all opinionated and i don't give a shit what your stance is. In my eyes the country who brings home the most medals has won. That countries athletes were able to place in the top 3 in more events than any other country, thats pretty fucking prestigous. Why is this? Figure it out yourself.

And to be honest i have nothing against Canada, when i get out of college with an environmental design degree i want to live in B.C.

oh also, the states also won the most medals in beijing but china won the olympics because they had 51 golds compared to the usa's 36.canada won the most golds. we win. /thread
 
its all opinon, but whats the point of ranking countries by medal count on the olympic site if gold is the only one that matters? Actually why even hand out silver and bronze then?

I don't think people on this thread get the point of the olympics. In my opinion it is the greatest event in the world. It is the celebration of all the athletes who are together competing against each other. There is more friendship between the athletes of each country than the people on this thread. The game today was truly epic and was really fun to watch. I'm happy that the canadians won and i'm proud to be canadian but I also think that the U.S.A. did an awesome job too. Both team deserves the gold !
