Im going to interrupt this discussion by saying, 1. canada...accept the defeat and move on, no need to make excuses as to why you guys loss.2. America, stop talking shit because overall they are better at hockey than us 3. And lastly i just think its funny how Canadians all of a sudden say hockey isn't their sport anymore... kinda goes back to the whole excuses thing4. And to Krob it's called having pride for your country, who gives a shit if you don't play. It's just like being a fan for any other sports team. You cheer for them regardless you dumbass... Bragging rights?...ever heard of it?
 
this makes no sense. How would you explain the US rise in dominance in alpine events when Europe has been dedicated to those events forever? Being in the olympics, at the fundamental level, is about winning a gold medal or at least getting on the podium. You can't argue against that. Who gives a damn about winning for the sake of winning.

ps. The US is dominating in the medal count....in a winter Olympics no less...that is INCREDIBLE. Everyone knew they would pwn in snowboarding and freestyle skiing, but in the traditional European events, no one saw it coming. The US has the most gold medals @ 7. That is 1 ahead of Germany. But, they are killing in overall @ 24 to Germany's 18. I know it's only the first week, but this is unprecedented.
 
no i agree that spectator sports are IMO stupid. just like the NFL here. people will block out days of the year to set on the couch and watch TV. go find something you can actually do, instead of living vicariously through other people.

my point was that it seemed to me that you were trying to say that team canada deserves/should win because their citizens care more about hockey. im saying thats ridiculous. the team that outperforms the other team is the winner. my point was that im fairly sure team USA hockey cares plenty about winning, they did, after all just win the game.

USA did not defeat Canada.

the Hockey players playing the game defeated the other hockey players playing the game.

but ive never been one to live my life revolving around how a group of athletes i will never meet, do in a particular sporting event. ide rather go experience something for myself, instead of watching a slap shot on TV, or a 90+mph fastball. ill go spend a day on the river, chase a golf ball across a field. something of that nature..

Star Wars hauled in $460,935,665 in 1977 with George Lucas's own shitty little special effects department. They basically invented SFX and were in the dark ages with Star Wars. It still brought in that much money. I'm not impressed by Avatar. Lucas's Industrial Light and Magic, a US company, did a lot of the SFX work on Avatar as well.

Canada has 31 million people. The usa has 308 million. Canada has 1/10th the population, and has 9 medals. Proportionally, ahead of the USA by a good margin.

I'd say that's pretty fucking successful.

just drawing attention to the "Own The Podium Program." Canada predicted it would win 35 medals...i don't see it happening. Norway has a population of about 5 million. They have 12 medals. Granted, they have more of a tradition in this stuff, but still, I don't subscribe to the population excuse. The Canadians have world class mountains and training facilities, so that is also a bullshit argument.

haha no, I'm obsessed with Star Wars and was extremely disappointed when Titanic and the Dark Knight Eclipsed it. I'm not taking anything away from Cameron, he is tremendously successful and he makes a good movie here and there. I personally didn't like Avatar, but I recognize that a lot of people do. Just trying to get a rise out of you Canucks. And yes, movies have nothing to do with hockey...unless that movie happens to be The Mighty Ducks. classic.

I was rooting for Jamaica and Tahoe people today in skier cross, and we all lost. I'm upset about that too... Damn you canadians and your beating us at that haha.
 
government money. not sure if the US olympic team is on the government weal or not though. Look up the program. The whole purpose is for Canada to be the top medal winner.

but each country can only send a certain amount of people to the olympics. the u.s does not have 10 times the amount of olympians as canada. also, like half of the u.s population doesn't even get snow.
 
canadian athletes are paid in dimes. most of them are working part time jobs just to play, unless they are in the NHL or other high-paying leagues.

Canada owns just by the fact that they produced Bobby Orr and Gretsky. The US aint got shit on them. I'm damn proud of Canada's role in the Bruins Orr Dynasty.
 
i think most of us are pissed about own the podium because of how fucking ridiculous it is. even the olympics coverage is shitting on own the podium, they're trying to blame it for poor performance.
