Helpful skiing tips that you may not know...

nope those things taste amazing and theyre not really low carb or low calorie. they work pretty well for skiing actually. theyre just expensive...

If you wake up and your boots are still wet throw some hand warmers in them for the car ride up to your mountian and they will be nice and warm.

dont think it was posted but.....on rainy days get like 4 plastic shopping bags. take your boot liner out and put it in the bag then back in the shell. then put your foot in one of thee other ones and put your boot on. the reason for 2? the one in between the liner and shell is to keep the liner dry and warm, the other is so if somehow the liner does get wet, your foot is still dry.

Nice tip. I was hiking in Sweden yesterday and got so hot my goggles fogged up. Because it was minus 20 as soon as I stopped the fog froze. Will def pop the lens out next time.

Good tip. I was hiking yesterday in Sweden because lifts were closed due to bad weather. My goggles fogged up and the froze when I stopped as it was minus 20. Will dep pop the tops open next time.

Poll straps on for sure

I dont know if this has already been posted, but if your gloves get wet during the day and you want to dry them off the hot air dryers in the bathroom work really well. Especially those xlerator ones.

Also, adding hot water to ketchup with salt and pepper makes some really decent tomato soup. Don't knock it till you try it. A lot of mountains will have free soup crackers too

i dont know, the feet have the most sweat pores, this doesnt allow your feet to breath very well and they sweat more and get your socks wet, on top of that, its easier to get eczema and toe nail funguses in hot moist environments... I'd just avoid puddles, and hope they dont get soaked..

True, I always give my feet a good washing after skiing cuz they do sweat alot! But your not gonna get eczema or nail fungus' from plastic bagging on the occasional rainy day (as long as the old food hygiene is good anyway).

throw ur gloves on a lower middle floor vent, if u can lean them ageist the wall wit the open end down, this way the air will flow all the way through them

At all costs dont fall.

dont do anything you cant already do and you will improve way quicker and boost your confidence

?

I've wiped my crowbar lenses on the inside quite a few times and the only time they fog is when I go back in the lodge on a super cold day

ON!
it sucks when you have to hike up when you loose your grip.
i always let go if my poles on the chair and they just dangle.

Im going through a rough time now, so i go some deep shit.
Every minute ur skiing, have a smile on; and when u can stop and think how sick it is u are skiing at the moment, cause there are wounded soilders out there that would do anything to ski, but they cant. If you ever find yourself complaining on the ski hill, stop and think about if u werent skiing

dude, they r just something to nom on not something to give you supplements. all you need is a breakfast and lunch and for the time in between you nom on delicious fruit twisters

when tying your bandana to your face, fold the top about an inch, and then when you go to wear it you have extra fabric that is a little looser so it doesnt crush your nose and it fits well under your goggles

if your going to go through the trouble of having something in your pocket to snack on, get something more worthwhile. trail mix, granola bar, whatever, fruit to go... thats all im saying

^^frozen yoghurt is da bomb, just trow some yoghurt jars in the snow when you go off in the morning, then when you're feeling hungry, dig em out and enjoy your frozen yoghurt !! :D

have two homemade fried egg sandwhiches with Frank's red hot in the morning and drink a TON of water. cannot fail with this.

having a bad day. take one run on a real rolly run and hit the spray on every rise, ski through and assume afterbang position. bad day gone

wear you ipod on an armband (unless you have built in jack in your jacket or helmet) so you can change songs on the go through your jacket

anybody got good ideas on how to get that third clamp on your boots down when you got to crank it back?

If you do end up wiping the inside of your goggles clean them with shaving cream. Put shaving cream on the inside of the goggles, rub it around, and then use a tissue to wipe it up out. It will keep your goggles from fogging, and give you a refreshing scent whenever you pick up some speed.

these are called tree wells and that shit can be dangerous. People have died cause they fell in one head first and couldnt get out before theyre friends found them

When you are finished skiing and you think that hanging your goggles from your rear view mirror is a good idea to avoid scratching the lens or looking cool in the parking lot your only causing your anti-fog on the inside of your goggles to melt. Also on cold days i hate using traditional neck gators but when its freezing i take a cheap or classic neck gator and cut it up the back till its wide enough to cover my chest and neck, and put a bandana over it so its warm and doesn't choke you or restrict your head movements. Always have a swiss army knife in your car, good for cleaning out bowls and clipping tickets.

this is a truely amazing thread, I've compiled a list of all my favorite pieces of advice from this thread and it's pushing 3 pages. Here's my tip though:

If you bend your poles, WAIT TILL YOU GET HOME to bend them back! If you try to bend them back while they're still freezing cold, you will have a much higher chance of snapping them, so wait for your poles to warm up to room temp by keeping them in your house before bending them back, and then use two vices (my tuning vice works great for me) and your bodyweight to GRADUALLY bend them back into shape using repeated applications of small force, not one big push. Here's to less broken poles!

sounds like a much more elegant set up. I just do it carefully on my knee. So far it's proven to work but of course never looks as good as it before it got bent.

I haven't had time to read through this whole thread, but I don't think this was mentioned yet: Take the time to adjust your dins properly. Higher din doesn't mean better skier... also, a blown knee proves absolutely nothing.

great thread though. +k

What to do if i have fingerprints inside of my crowbar lens? Cant i just wipe it off with that silk thing that comes with the crowbar?

ive been looking for this great thread for ages -insert shit search bar excuse- cheers for bumping it.

brilliant, for shin bang I've used cheap indoor volleyball knee pads with a square cut directly over the shin to alleviate pressure. Also, icy hot cream is a life saver.

If you want to look over a certain shoulder better, sleep with your head twisted in that direction. ex. You cant look over your left shoulder well when skiing switch, so sleep on your stomach with the right side of your face against the pillow.

If you store your goggles in a ski bag all the time put them in a plastic peanut butter container with some holes drilled in it. Protects the goggles from being scratched or cracked and the holes still let out any dampness in the goggles

NEVER toss a lighter, it will be dropped.
If its windy on the lift during a safety meeting smoke inside your jacket.
Most cafeterias serve their pizza on those dish type baskets that have a space underneath them. you can usually fit 2-3 big cookies under there.
Even if refills aren't free walk into the cafeteria and get a cup "for water", leave and go to the other side of the cafeteria, walk to the soda fountain, fill it up, walk out. If someone stops you and says you have to pay for it say someone told you there were free refills. I drank a cup of soda almost every time i skied this season so 70 days times 3 dollars = 210 dollars worth of free soda.
If the lines are really busy just get your food and walk around the largest line. nobody gives a fuck. I don't feel bad stealing food when fries and chicken fingers are 10 dollars.
i have more of this wisdom i may share at another time.
